Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | November 19, 2024
Maxine L. Erny, age 85, of McKeesport, died November 12, 2024, at Riverside Nursing Home, surrounded by the love of her family. Born December 6, 1938, in Somerset, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow and Janet (Ling) Cole and wife of the late Samuel Erny.
Maxine dedicated her working years as a union typesetter for the Daily American in Somerset, along with Herbick & Held Printing Company. Breaking barriers as the only woman in the office, she carried out her duties with grace and determination. Beyond her professional life, Maxine found joy in cultivating her garden, where she lovingly nurtured vegetables and beautiful flowers. Her culinary skills were unmatched, as she delighted in creating Easter candy and savory Thanksgiving pies. At home, she found solace in the pages of her favorite books and cherished moments spent watching shows like Dancing with the Stars and Big Brother.
Maxine is survived by her daughters, Lorraine (Michael) Bradley and Sandra (Dale Little) Erny; grandchildren, Mark (Cassie) Bradley, Elizabeth (Dennis) Sanders, Kristy (Steve) Gabriel, Benny Binenkorb, Lena Bradley, Michael (Holly) Bradley, and Michele Dohner and children; great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Alani, Naveh, Sky Sanders, and Mackenzie Gabriel; a brother, Woodrow (Judy) Cole; nephews, Mark Cole and Bradley Cole.
Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory for a memorial gathering on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.willigfuneralcremationservices.com.
