Joseph Dale Antonella, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024, at the age of 80. He was born on October 30, 1944, in Morrilton, Arkansas, to his parents, Audrey and Joseph Antonella. Joe lived a life filled with adventure, hard work, and deep love for his family and community. Joe was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 57 years, Trish, and their infant daughter, Jan Marie, his parents, Audrey and Joseph Antonella and in-laws, Ruth and James Topper.

He is survived by his three devoted children: Jill (Scott) Antonella-Taylor of Mt. Vernon, PA, Sean (Linda) Antonella of Greensburg, PA and Linn Antonella of White Oak, PA. Joe’s legacy continues through his grandchildren, Nicholas and Brooke Taylor, Samantha, Aiden, and Gage Antonella, and his great-grandchildren, Lily and Cooper Anthony. Additionally, he leaves behind his loving sister, Patricia Antonella Schwartz of Manor, PA and his in-laws, Bernadette and Greg Sinchar of Las Vegas, NV. Joe’s life was marked by service and dedication. He proudly served in the United States Army Signal Corps during the Vietnam War, where he earned an honorable discharge with decorations. After his military service, he pursued a career that combined his passions for electronics and education. He was an accomplished air traffic controller and later became a faculty member at CCAC Allegheny Campus. His expertise led him to managerial roles in automation and robotics, including positions at Educational Technologies in Ewing, NJ, and as Vice President and partner at STM Robotics in Hamilton, NJ. Joe also worked at Community Life as a manager of transportation, dedicating his life to helping others. Education was important to Joe, and he continued to expand his knowledge throughout his life. He attended several institutes, including the FAA Academy, CCAC Allegheny Robotics, Penn Technical Institution for Electronics, Douglas Business School, and Penn State University. In his free time, Joe enjoyed diverse hobbies that kept his spirit vibrant. He never missed a chance to light up fireworks during the holidays and spent every Halloween giving out the full-size candy bars with his daughter’s family. He was a passionate electronics enthusiast and an avid NASCAR fan. Fishing and boating with his family brought him immense joy, and he cherished moments spent with his grandson in their lab, often accompanied by the soothing sounds of Frank Sinatra. Joe was also a licensed Amateur Radio Operator (GEN-WB8UFQ) and a proud member of the Duquesne-McKeesport Masonic Lodge No. 731. His commitment to youth development was evident in his role as a former Boy Scout Master for Troop 499 in Vermilion, OH. Despite the challenges he faced in his later years, Joe approached life with an unwavering spirit. He was determined to fight for his health, often reminding those around him with his powerful words: “Fight, Fight, Fight,” as he pumped his fist in the air just before entering surgery. The world lost a vibrant soul, but his family continues to carry his strength and love in their hearts. In lieu of traditional services, Joe requested that his family gather for a dinner to share good food and laughter, enjoying steak, hamburgers, and pizza—his favorites. The Antonella family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at all the hospitals and agencies who cared for both Joe and Trish during their difficult journeys this past year. Your compassion and support have left an indelible mark, and words cannot express their appreciation. In memory of Joe, the family invites those who wish to honor his legacy to support the Wounded Warrior Project and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, organizations he deeply respected. Joseph Dale Antonella will be remembered not only for his many accomplishments but also for the love he fostered within his family and community. His spirit will forever shine bright in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, Joe. You will be dearly missed.
