Gary D. Corey
Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory
Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | January 05, 2025
Gary D. Corey, 64, of Elizabeth Township, after a life of love and exploration, on Saturday January 4th 2025 embarked on his crowning "trip of a lifetime" to heaven. Always ready for the next adventure, Gary was just as comfortable in a cabin at Corey’s corner as he was in the mountains of Montana and Colorado, the rugged frontier of Alaska and Canada, on the sunny shores of Florida and Mexico or in lush green villages of Ireland.
No matter where he was, Gary never met a fish he couldn’t catch, a ground he couldn’t set camp on, or a experience he couldn’t retell in a classic "Corey Story" manner. On the first day of buck, you could find him around the fire at hunting camp, where he got the nickname “Eagle Eye” for his uncanny ability to spot wildlife.
Although traveling was his passion, Gary was happiest at home, cooking out on the grill, dropping a line off the banks of the Yough, or taking long walks on the trail to the "bleeding" falls with his wife , children and grandchildren. He found beauty in the ordinary and encouraged others to appreciate the small things. Gary's love of nature and everything outdoors was surpassed only by the love he had for his family. For Gary, family was everything, and everyone was welcome.
Gary could always find a way and made a living doing things that helped to make the world a better place. Whether it was taking pictures on the beat for a local newspaper, catching shoplifters as an undercover security officer, or testing the air quality in hospital rooms during the Covid pandemic. He never shied away from a challenge. Gary always saw the best in people and his faith was never shaken.
The truth is that we will miss him terribly. But we know that, long after today, his stories and spirit will live on through those with whom he shared so much love: wife, Heather Corey; children, Danielle (Samuel) Sheaffer, Ashley (Brock) Urlakis, Joshua Corey (Madison Kapisak), Bryan (Tracey) Olenik, and Sherie (Andrew) Gill; grandchildren Georgia, Huck, Eloise, and Camilla; siblings John (Nancy) Corey, Connie (Chet) Czachowski, Dan (Cindy) Corey and Sheila Markel (William); and his many cousins, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
And so, we bid farewell to you, Gary D. Corey, our cherished Husband, Father, Pap, Brother, and friend. Friends are welcome to celebrate of his life, Thursday, January 9th, 2025 from 2:00 - 4:00pm & 6:00 - 8:00pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home, 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, PA 15135.
