Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | January 25, 2017
“Small town lawyer from McKeesport”, Walter F. Baczkowski, age 74 of Murrysville, passed away surrounded by family on January 24, 2017.
Brother of Constance B. Noll, devoted husband of 47 years to Ann; father to Chris (Tim), Mark (Becky), Amy (Greg), Brian (Alison) and Mike and grandfather to Renee, Ryan, Bradley, Jack, Allison, Bobby, Maddie and Chloe. After graduating from St. Meinrad College, Walt taught at Shadyside Academy during the day and attended law school at night. He graduated with his Juris Doctor from Duquesne University in 1970 and shortly thereafter passed the bar exam which enabled him to serve as administrator in charge of McKeesport Trust Department for Western Pennsylvania National Bank before moving into private practice with offices in McKeesport and Murrysville.
Up until his passing, he was a partner in the law firm of Creenan & Baczkowski, PC and served as Deputy Director of McKeesport Housing Authority. Walt also taught law courses at Penn State, Greater Allegheny campus. He dedicated his life to serving others as evidenced by his participation in McKeesport Jaycees, the Mon Yough Foundation, the Mon Yough Economic Conference, the Penn State Advisory Board, Director on the Franklin Regional School Board, and Murrysville Zoning Hearing Board.
He was recognized for his dedication of service with the Paul Harris Fellow award from the Murrysville Export Rotary. Professionally, his proudest accomplishment was his appointment by the state Supreme Court to serve as chairman of the Pennsylvania Client Security Fund. He was a long-time member of the Allegheny County Bar Association.
Walt cared deeply for his clients and provided expert guidance to countless families and businesses in the McKeesport and Murrysville areas. He often joked his best memory of his political career was receiving the most votes of any Democrat running for Mayor of Murrysville.
