Doctor William N. Pigozzi, only child of Francesco and Louise Pigozzi, passed away peacefully on Feb. 24, 2017, at the age of 100. Doctor Bill was predeceased by his parents, his first wife Helen Meenen Pigozzi and his second wife Betty Place Pigozzi.

Doctor Bill was born on September 18, 1916, in Greenock, PA, where he lived until he departed for college. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in 1939 from Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. He subsequently attended the University of Pittsburgh where he was pursuing his Master’s Degree before enrolling in medical school at Hahnemann Medical College (now Drexel University) in Philadelphia, PA. Upon receiving his medical degree in Sept. 1944 he was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. After completing his internship and residency, he was stationed as part of the Army of Occupation in Stuttgart, Germany, with his wife Helen and young son Bruce.

Doctor Bill was discharged from active duty at the end of 1947 and entered into private medical practice in Versailles Borough in early 1948. From 1948 until 1980, he was in private practice, and from 1980 until 2000, he was the staff physician at Kane Regional Hospital in McKeesport, PA. During his 56 years in medicine, Doctor Bill impacted the lives of so many with his caring, loving, and compassionate manner.

Throughout his life, Doctor Bill loved spending his leisure time on the golf links, playing cards (especially bridge), baseball and photography. One of his favorite photographic subjects was the golf course at the Youghiogheny Country Club where he was a member for 51 years.

In 1977, Doctor Bill married Betty Place, and in 2000, they relocated from Greenock to Wapakoneta, Ohio, to be close to Betty’s family. They resided there until Betty’s passing in 2010 after which he resided at the Baton Rouge Senior Center in Lima, Ohio, until his passing. In Lima, he was lovingly cared for by the Staff at the Baton Rouge Senior Center and Jo Ann Mizek, Betty’s niece.

Doctor Bill is survived by his two sons, Professor Bruce W. Pigozzi, Lansing, MI, and Robert K. Pigozzi, San Ramon, CA, and two grandchildren, Jacqueline L. Pigozzi and Robert W. Pigozzi.

Viewings are planned for Mar. 4 in Wapakoneta at the Bailiff and Eley Funeral Home, 1102 Lincoln Ave, Wapakoneta, Ohio from 2 to 6PM and Mar. 10 at the Gilbert Funeral Home, 6028 Smithfield St. Boston, Elizabeth Twp. 412-751-5000 Drew J. Gilbert, Director from 2 to 4PM and 6 to 8PM. A memorial service will be held at the Peace Lutheran Church, Greenock, PA on Mar. 11 at 10:00 am with the Rev. Erin Evans, officiating. Private burial will take place at Peace Lutheran Cemetery.
