Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | February 27, 2016
Mary Lou (Phillips) Lopretto, age 86, of Port Vue, died Feb. 25, 2016, at Mount Vernon of Elizabeth. Born July 9, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Thelma (Ferguson) Phillips. Mary Lou was married for 62 years to Bernard J. Lopretto, Sr, who died Aug. 28, 2010.
Mary Lou was a member of Port Vue United Methodist Church. She was active in the FOD Ladies Group, Chancel Choir, and Good Samaritan Food Pantry.
An employee of McKeesport Area School District, she drove school bus for over 10 years. She made people smile with her keen wit and sense of humor. Mary Lou would “roll up her sleeves” and tackle any project, such as roofing, block or brick laying. Family and friends concerned about her attempting such work found that no one could stand between a project and her strong will. She was a wonderful role model for her children.
Survivors are children, Bernard (Ann) Lopretto, Jr, Richard (Phyllis) Lopretto; Sheryl (Bob) Pope and Pam (Rich) Kritikos; grandchildren, Nikole, Daniel and Marc Lopretto, Jennifer Dawson, Megan Rezvani, Tom, Brian and Lesa Pope, Lindsay King, Melissa Harding, Doug and Melinda Jewart and Annalise Mursch; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Bill Phillips; nieces and nephews.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by brothers, Jack and Richard Phillips and sister, Helen Kalo. She was also preceded by Rascal, her and Bernie’s faithful companion.
Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory on Sunday from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be Monday, 10:00 a.m., at Port Vue United Methodist Church. Pastor Hyung-Suk Joe will officiate. Committal service and entombment will follow in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park.
