Francis M. McBride, 90, of Greenock, died Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Kane Regional Center in McKeesport.
Born March 14, 1925, in McKeesport, PA, he was the owner of Francis McBride Wall Coverings, a member of St. Patrick Church, and a WWII U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater and served during the Korean War. Mr. McBride served as a Navy diver aboard the USS Blackhawk and was anchored in Adak, Alaska for 13 months. The highlight of his naval service was escorting his parents to the Philadelphia Naval Yards so that his mother could christen the USS Scott. She was the first Irish immigrant to christen a ship. Mr. McBride was husband of the late Olive G. Schmidt McBride and son of the late George and Mary Jane Ponsonby McBride. He is survived by children, Kathleen Murphy, Francis X. (Janet) McBride, Colleen (Rob) Copeland, Regina Nimmo, George and Cathe Flynn-McBride, Charles (Mary Jo) McBride, John McBride, Robert McBride, Mary (Roger) Scott, Daniel (Janine) McBride, Gerry (Cindy) McBride, and Theodore McBride; 33 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Friends will be received Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM in Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Street, McKeesport, PA 15132. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 PM on Monday in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at St. Patrick Church with the Rev. Paul Voida officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Mr. McBride’s son, Theodore McBride, P.O. Box 78, Greenock, PA 15047.
