Joan Gloria Steele, age 90, of White Oak, died March 4, 2021, at UPMC McKeesport. Born December 6, 1930, in Madison, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Pauline (Gaffney) Sterner and the wife of the late Harry Edward Steele.
Joan retired from McKeesport Hospital, where she worked as a Registered Nurse. She was a member of First Free Evangelical Church in McKeesport and also in the choir. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing the piano at home and sang with the choraleers group in McKeesport. She was also a member of the Mental Health and Mental Retardation organization and Parents Without Partners.
Joan is survived by her children, Harry Stephen (Charlene) Steele, Patricia Ann (Augustus) Sackandy, and Mark Charles (Debbie) Steele; 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. In addition to her husband and parents, Gloria was also preceded in death by her son, Thomas Edward Steele; brothers Wendall and Herb Stern; sisters Donna Peat and Kay Byers.
Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Monday, March 8, 2021, from 6-8:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Committal prayers and Burial will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park.
