Richard Anthony Pomponio,  88, of McKeesport, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2021. He was born October 16, 1932 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Ovidio and Catherine Pomponio. Richard was a member of Christy Park United Methodist Church and was a US Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a former City Controller and Tax Collector for the City of McKeesport and had retired from US Steel. Richard was manager of McKeesport 50 + Softball Team and was instrumental in the Mon Valley Unemployed Committee that was formed in the 1980s.

 He is survived by his wife, Jean Pomponio, daughters, Cindy (Dayne) Walman of Rostraver, Vicky Weaver of Leesburg, VA, and Wendy Mandella of Port Vue, grandchildren, Dayne Walman, Jon Tegge, Dawn Tegge, Elizabeth Mandella, Brandon Weaver, Timothy Holmes, and Stephanie Mandella, and 6 Great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline (Thomas) Pomponio and wife, Faye Pomponio, son, Jeffery Pomponio and sons-in-law, George Weaver and Lawrence Mandella. Friends are welcome Friday, March 26, 2021 from 4-7 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. (412) 751-5000 Drew J.
