Jay W. Hobby, age 72, of Port Vue, died April 6, 2021, at home. Born April 21, 1948, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late James T. Hobby, Jr., and Emma Elizabeth (Bryant) Hobby-Tarli and the step-son of Sam Tarli and husband of Kathy (Laczko) Hobby.
Jay retired from the Allegheny County Jail, where he was a Correctional Officer. He was a member of the ACRA. Jay was a US Army veteran serving as a medic during Vietnam. He was also a member of the Dravosburg American Legion Post #380. He enjoyed golf, playing softball in his early years, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Jay's greatest joy was his family and their happiness.
In addition to his wife, Jay is survived by his sons, David M. (Melissa) Hobby of Dravosburg, and Jay W. Hobby, Jr. of Port Vue; grandchildren, Josh and Dakota; brother, Dan (Nicholine) Hobby of Columbia, TN; brothers-in-law, Arthur Cain of Smithton, and William (Linda) Laczko of Acme; also nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Jay was also preceded in death by his siblings, David Hobby and Jill Cain, and loyal pet Rottweiler, "Harley."
Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory on Sunday, April 11, 2021, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held on Monday, at 11 a.m., in the funeral home chapel. Military honors and burial will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Procession to the cemetery will leave the funeral home at Noon.
