Doris Jane McClymont Walker

Obituary

Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | July 23, 2022

Doris Jane McClymont Walker of Goshen, Kentucky, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died peacefully in her home on July 20, 2022. She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of fifty- two years, P. Duane ("Dewey") Walker, and her dear and only sibling, Edna Mae Hannen.

Doris was born in Coulter, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania on December 17,1931, to the late Richard and Lillian Lyons McClymont. She very much identified with being "a little girl of the 30's," with her strong sense of values and her very frugal ways. Upon graduating from McKeesport High School in 1949, Doris became a legal secretary. (She held treasured, lifelong memories of all the years she spent running to catch the train from her sleepy little coal mining town of Coulter, into downtown McKeesport for school and work.) It was while working as a legal secretary that she met Dewey, and they married in 1959.

As Doris and Dewey started their family, there were significant moves for Dewey's career. All the while, Doris filled the role as primary caregiver to their three children, yet still found time for volunteerism: teaching Sunday school, using her secretarial skills to type large print reading materials for the visually impaired and also learning Braille. Years later, Doris discovered her love for painting and became a decades-long student at the Schrodt Art Studio in Louisville, completing many vibrant and beautiful oil paintings. She was so pleasantly surprised and honored the year she won a blue ribbon at one of the Studio's Art Shows!

In the early nineties, Doris expanded her creative energies to include writing short stories.  She published two whimsical children's books, "The Wedding of The Wildflowers" and "The Adventures of Showers," (a tribute of sorts to a homeless kitten who grew up to be an aloof cat, who eventually stole her heart)!  In her spare time, Doris was an avid reader and was particularly fond of old English classics.  She had an intense love and interest in animals and nature and also enjoyed traveling and cooking.  In later years, she enjoyed watching her "animal shows", corresponding with friends, closely following politics, and enjoying many family traditions that had evolved over the years.  She found immeasurable joy in her granddaughters and lovingly recounted special memories from their childhoods.  Doris was a longtime member of New Goshen Presbyterian Church where she served as Deacon for a time, a role she embraced.

Doris is survived by three children:  Jeannine Walker Newcomb (Clyde), Andrea Eisenbrei (Rich), Edward Duane (Akemi Benton and her daughter Lauren and Lauren's son Brayden), and her two cherished granddaughters, Malorie Eisenbrei Rice (Ben), and Daria Anne Eisenbrei.  She also leaves behind a very special niece and nephew, Amy Michaliszyn (Dave) and Gary Hannen (Candy), as well as a close cousin, Jane Frizlen (Larry), and countless other cousins and extended family.

A funeral service will be held to honor Doris on Wednesday, July 27th, at 11:00 am at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 9611 W. U.S. Hwy 42.  She will be laid to rest in Cave Hill Cemetery beside her beloved husband.  Visitation will be Tuesday, July 26th, from 4:00-8:00pm at Pearson's Funeral Home, 149 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville. (Given Doris' artistic eye and love of color, attendees are encouraged to wear whatever colors they choose, as we celebrate and honor her life!)
