John “Johnny” S. Brooks, 85, of White Oak passed away Friday, September 23, 2016 at UPMC Shadyside. He was born January 5, 1931 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Alexander and Francis Brooks. He was the husband of the late Sari Ayoub Brooks. John served in the United States Air Force and was a Staff Sergeant during the Korean War. He was a retired foreman with US Steel, National Tube. Mr. Brooks was an entrepreneur, he owned John’s Repair Service, dry cleaners, laundromats, and real estate. John was a member of Renzie Park Seniors and Life Span of Olympia Shopping Center.
He was an avid dancer who also had a love of music. He frequented The Palisades and The White Oak American Legion. John is survived by 3 daughters, Alaina (Jim) Bonessi of Sarasota Fl, Paula (Mike) Martin of San Diego, CA, Stacey Brooks of Pittsburgh, 3 granddaughters, Samantha (Chris) Sanders of Battle Creek, MI, Kristy and Alexa Martin of San Diego, CA, great-granddaughter, Skylar Nicole Sanders, sister, Eleanor Hancharik of McKeesport, and several nieces and nephews. Friends are welcome Tuesday, September 27, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak (412) 672-6322 Troy J. Gilbert, Director. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home chapel, Wednesday September 28, at 10:00 am with Rev. Donald Voss, officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery, Monroeville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to the American Heart Assosiciation, 412-208-3550, or the American Cancer Society, 412-919-1100.
