Michael E. Kandcer, 79, of Elizabeth Township, died Sunday, January 17, 2016 at home. He was born February 18, 1936 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Frank and Anna Baranik Kandcer. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Duquesne, the Eleventh Ward Welfare Association, Order of the Elks, White Oak American Legion, and the Versailles Croatian Club.
He was also a former Girl Scouts of Southwestern Pennsylvania board member. Michael coached numerous athletic teams through the years. He was an officer of the Eleventh Ward Club for over thirty years and was also the leader of the Esquires Orchestra, which was very popular in the Greater Pittsburgh area during the 1960's and 1970's. Michael retired from US Steel after 32 years of service and was a US Army Veteran. He is survived by his wife, Patricia H. Flick Kandcer, daughters, Michelle K. (Richard) Watts of Atlanta, Georgia, Melissa Lynn Kandcer of Elizabeth Township, Marlene H. (Robert) Trumpie of Forward Township, Marianne L. Coughenour of Pleasant Hills, Pamela Jo Keffer of Pittsburgh, and Leayn Thomas of McKeesport, grandchildren, Bruce R. Keffer, Victoria A. and Evelyn C. Coughenour, Michael R. and Angeline R. Trumpie and Claire A. Watts. He was preceded in death by his German Shepherd, Koda. Friends are welcome Tuesday, January 19 from 6-9 pm. and Wednesday January 20 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. Service will be held at the Christ Lutheran Church, Duquesne on Thursday, January 21, at 10:00 AM with The Rev. John J. Gropp, officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Mount Vernon Cemetery Mausoleum, Elizabeth Township. Condolences may be made at gilbertfuneralhomeandcrematory.com
