Dr. Robert J. "Arch" McCormley, 87, of North Huntingdon, formerly of North Versailles, died Monday December 26, 2016 in UPMC East, Monroeville. He was born June 22, 1929 in Clairton and was the son of the late Joseph and Katherine "Kitty" Flynn McCormley. Dr. McCormley was a graduate of Clairton High School and received his chemistry degree from Pitt. His career began as a chemist for the Pennsylvania Industrial Chemical Co., then, while still working in the lab at Picco- attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine- graduating in 1962.
He began his dental practice in 1962 in East McKeesport, until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in East McKeesport, the Western Pennsylvania Dental Society and was also a member and past president of the Pitt Dental School Alumni Association. Arch was a US Army Veteran. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ida Jean Silberman McCormley, children, Dr. Ben (Kristin) McCormley, Dr. Michelle Kisiel-Cohen (Jeff), and Amy O'Hara, PHD., grandchildren, Alex, Sarah, and Katie Kisiel, Matthew and Jacob McCormley, and Eva and Aengus O'Hara, brothers, Joseph, William, and Dr. Don McCormley, and nieces and nephews. Friends are welcome Wednesday December 28 from 3-7 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak, (412) 672-6322 Troy J. Gilbert, Director. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday December 29 at 10 am in St. Robert Bellarmine Church with The Rev. John Brennan, officiating. Private entombment will be in the Good Shepherd Cemetery Mausoleum, Monroeville.
