W. Gene Perkins, age 84 of Irwin, passed away on February 12, 2024 at Montefiore Hospital. He was born on April 24, 1939 in Crichton, WV, a son of the late John Samuel and Olive Margaret Rader Perkins. Gene was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Irwin. Prior to his retirement, he was a Data Officer at Mellon Bank. He was a volunteer at the Wesley Chapel Food Bank in Florida, a past president of the former Alcoma Golf Club, and past president of the Men's Club at the Saddlebrook Golf and Tennis Resort in Wesley Chapel, Florida. Gene was an avid golfer and dedicated Pittsburgh Steelers Fan. He was a graduate of Fairmont State University in West Virginia where he played football and ran track. In addition, Gene was the first ever president of the TKE Fraternity. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brother Edwin Harold and his wife Nancy, sister Evelyn Rae Odell and husband Rodney, and nephew Matthew Wayne Perkins. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Barbara Ferrari Perkins, sons Joe (Linda) and Chris (Kristin) Perkins, brother Robert Lee (Reba) Perkins, Jack Wayne (Claren) Perkins, and grandchildren Michael (Ashleigh), Nathan, Matthew, Courtney, and Jake Perkins, great-granddaughter Ellie, and 13 nieces and nephews. Robert A. Zaval, 102 of North Huntingdon died February 8, 2024 at his home. He was born October 10, 1921 in Philipsburg. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a foreman for Fort Pitt Steel Casting Company in McKeesport. He enjoyed crocheting, splitting wood, and daily trips to Walmart. Bob was a WWII veteran having served in the U.S. Army's 8th Armored Division in Rhineland and Central Europe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy Zaval and son Daryl Zaval. He is survived by his wife Helene Wilson Zaval, daughters Barbara Casorio (Jim Sr.) and Melanie O’Connell (James), and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Johanna Hreha , 87 of North Huntingdon died Feburary 1, 2024 at the Seton Center in Greensburg. She was born September 24, 1936 in North Braddock, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Tej Pavur. Johanna was a member of St. Agnes Church. She enjoyed reading, baking, cooking and crafting. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as an Executive Secretary by Robert Morris College. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert J. Hreha in 2008, two brothers Joseph and Carl Pavur, one sister, Margaret O'Brien. Leo Letterine, age 91 of North Huntingdon died February 1, 2024 at Excela Westmoreland Hospital. He was born January 16, 1933 in Huey, PA, a son of the late Guido and Mildred Finotti Letterine. Leo was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, was employed by Westinghouse Electric as a Manager of International Sales from 1956-1991. Chuck G. Demorest, Sr. age 63 of Westmoreland City died February 1, 2024 at his home. He was born April 23, 1960 in Jeannette, a son of the late Wilbert J. Demorest, Sr. and Anna Louise Pollard. He was a graduate of Penn Trafford High School. Prior to his retirement, was employed as a welder for Holtec in Turtle Creek. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, enjoyed going to the casino, and was a huge wrestling fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Marvin “Bud” Demorest. Timothy Edward Quinlan, age 78 of North Huntingdon, PA, died January 31, 2024 at UPMC East surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 29, 1946 to the late Albert H. and Millicent M. (Sieburg) Quinlan of Pine Township. He graduated from Richland High School class of 1963 and earned his bachelor's degree from Indiana University of PA before completing graduate work through the US Steel/Case Western Reserve University Business Program. A United States Army veteran, Captain Quinlan served with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam earning the Bronze Star. Prior to retirement in 2004, he was employed as a Production and Continuous Improvement Supervisor, Safety Engineer, and Accounting Manager for US Steel throughout the Mon Valley for over 30 years where he volunteered as a mentor with Junior Achievement. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Daria Riesberg. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dr. Audrey (Manzlak) Quinlan; a daughter Tara (Bill) Willenbrock of VA; a son, Daniel (Deanna) Quinlan of Cranberry; three grandsons, Matthew and Ryan Quinlan and Owen Willenbrock; a brother, Michael (Lynn) Quinlan of SC, and two nephews, Nathan M. and Timothy R. Quinlan. An avid sports fan, he was a proud season-ticket holder of the Steelers and was honored in 2021 to be invited to participate in the on-field pregame Terrible Towel activities. He also enjoyed surf fishing in Rodanthe and Nags Head on the Outer Banks of NC. As requested, there will be no visitation. Dennis C. Shaffer, 73 of North Huntingdon peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 31, 2024 at UPMC Montefiore Hospital. He was born October 27, 1950 in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Robert and Ruth Smith Shaffer. He was a member of Calvary Assembly Church. He was a graduate of Penn State University with a degree in engineering. He enjoyed NASCAR, was an avid Pittsburgh and Penn State sports fan, WWII aviation buff, interested in working on model airplanes, enjoyed traveling with Betty, and spending time with his family and friends. Prior to his retirement, was employed as a machinist for Jennison Corporation in Carnegie. He was preceded in death by his father and first wife Elaine. Suzanne McClure, age 77 of North Huntingdon died January 31, 2024 at Brookdale Murrysville. She was born September 15, 1946 in Irwin, a daughter of the late Edward and Ethel Bilak Zurich. Suzanne was a member of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church in Monroeville. She enjoyed maintaining friendships, traveling and was a role model to many. Suzanne lit up a room when she entered. She was a fashion icon who enjoyed organizing, decorating and volunteering in Irwin. She was the loving Aunt to Greg Zurich and his wife Maria and their son Gino Zurich. She is survived by one brother, Edward Zurich, the Kovac cousins, Zoe, Jeff, Lori and Lynn, the Bilak cousins Mark , Shawn, Terri and numerous other cousins, longtime friends, Bonnie, Pat, Jane, Ken, the Dupree's and the DeLallo's. Betty J. Removchik, age 86 of North Huntingdon, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at her home. She was born in McKeesport on May 3, 1937, a daughter of the late James and Mildred Hillwig. Betty was a member of Prayer Time Cathedral in White Oak. She enjoyed ceramics, traveling with her beloved husband, Robert, and spending time with her grandchildren. Amy T. Pushinsky, 68 of Harrison City, formerly of North Huntingdon died January 26,2024 at her home. Lauren R. Cousins, age 94 of Monroeville, died Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at LGAR Health and Rehabilitation, Turtle Creek. He was born February 23, 1929 in Sharon, PA, a son of the late John and Edna (Anderson) Cousins. Lauren was an active member of the Norwin Church of the Nazarene. He graduated from Mercer High School, Grove City College, and received an honorary doctorate from Eastern Nazarene College where he served as a trustee for 32 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives Alberta in 1956 and June in 2010, brother John, sisters Patricia and Donna Lou. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Albert Dale Dick Sr., 90, of North Huntingdon, PA, passed away at home on Sunday, January 21st, 2024. He was born in Wilkinsburg, PA on November 21, 1933, to the late Herbert and Georgia (Buell) Dick. He graduated from North Huntingdon High School in 1953. He loved sports, and enjoyed being a part of the football, wrestling, and baseball teams. Upon graduation, he joined the Army as a paratrooper, serving a period of his time stationed in Greenland. He had many jobs throughout his life including; paper delivery, truck driver, dock worker, painter, and most recently custodian of Norwin School District. He retired from Norwin after 25 years. He was a life-long member of Christ Lutheran Church, and enjoyed spending his Sunday’s as an Elder there. Those that knew him would say he was a character, always ready to tell his stories to anyone willing to listen. He was an animal lover, who enjoyed sharing his meals with the dogs, and having his cat sit in his lap for hours at a time while watching sports on TV. He also loved playing cards, going to see high school musicals, meeting new people, and traveling with the AARP. Surviving Albert are his children, son Albert (Shelia) Dick, daughter Janet (Barry) Conley, his beloved cat, Herbie, his grandchildren Kimberly Conley, Madison Dick, Allison Dick, Brian Dick and brother Jim Dick. Glenda Stansak, age 81 of Irwin, went home to be with Jesus on January 18th, 2024. She was born on April 15, 1942, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Glenn and Jean Leonard Eicher. She was a graduate of Norwin High School, Class of 1960. Glenda retired from the North Huntingdon Giant Eagle after 15 years of employment. She was a member of Herminie United Methodist Church, enjoyed baking for family & friends, and was an avid listener of soft jazz music. Glenda loved to spend time with her grandchildren whom she was endlessly proud of. In addition to her parents, Glenda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry Stansak.
