Loren B. Steele, 21, of Westmoreland City, died Monday February 20, 2017 as the result of an automobile accident. He was born June 18, 1995 in Pittsburgh, the beloved son of Cindy (Brennan) Steele of Westmoreland City and Norbert W. Steele III and his wife Kerry of South Carolina. Loren and was an employee of Keystone Collections, Irwin and was an avid gamer and dog lover. He was an extremely loyal friend and everyone will miss his dry sense of humor. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Cornelius and Joan Brennan and Norbert W. Steele II. He is survived by his siblings, Norbert W. Steele IV, Jackson Raimondo, Madeleine Raimondo, and Helen Steele; his grandmother Carol Steele; also aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Robert E. Smith, age 89, of Irwin, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2017. He was born July 1, 1927 in Wilmerding, a son of the late Clarence C. and Verna (Stormer) Smith. He was a long time member of the West Hempfield Presbyterian Church where he participated in their dart ball competitions. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and had the honor of guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. He retired from truck driving for Clean Textile Systems in Lawrenceville and enjoyed hunting and golf. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Glendon Smith. He is survived by his wife of over 66 years Pauline C. (Cline) Smith; children Karen L. (John) Reed of Irwin, Beverly Ann (Joseph) Patton of Derry and Paul R. Smith of Irwin; grandchildren Nicole (Drew) Reckhart, Jennifer (Matthew) Stephens, Matt Reed (fiancé Danielle) and Renee Root; 10 great grandchildren; and sister Dorothy Thomas of Tiffen, Ohio.

She was born in her home on December 13, 1938 in Dayton, Pa, a loving daughter of the late Harold and Alverda (Schrecengost) West. A devoted follower of Christ, Elaine shared her God-given gifts of love and music in every area of her life. She was a member of Community United Methodist Church in Harrison City where she sang in the choir, one of the many choirs in which she sang throughout her life.

William R. “Bill” Matta, 89 of McKeesport died at home Monday January 30, 2017. He was born July 7, 1927 in McKeesport, a son of the late Michael and Katherine Oakley Matta and was also preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy Veronick Matta and a brother Joseph Matta. Bill was a Navy veteran and was a foreman for USX Maintenance Division for over thirty years. Bill loved his family, enjoyed fishing, and will be missed by his cats, Wilber, Chick, and Matty. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl and their daughter Samantha; his children with his first wife, Debbie Simonetta and her husband James of Irwin and William R. Matta Jr. and his wife Susan of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; his granddaughter, Carly Simonetta; his great granddaughter, Isabella Kettering; and a sister, Patricia Kiss of McKeesport. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday the William Snyder Funeral Home Inc., 521 Main Street, Irwin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 308 Second St., Irwin, with Father John Moineau, officiating. Those attending the Mass please go directly to the church. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, North Versailles.
