Charles J. Filiano, 95, of Elizabeth Twp, passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at his current residence at Point Pleasant Retirement Community. He was born January 23, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY and was the son of the late Joseph and Emma (Farischon) Filiano. Charles was the husband of 67 years to the late Pauline L. (Donofe) Filiano, who passed away July 17, 2022. Charles was a US ARMY Veteran serving during the Korean War, for his service he was awarded The Army of Occupational Medal (Germany) and The Good Conduct Medal. Upon his completion of his military service he would go on to work for Bettis Atomic Laboratories. He was a member of the former St. Denis Church in Versailles and was a current member of Mary, Mother of God Parish. During his time at St. Denis he was an usher, altar server, "Mr. Donut" at the Parish Festival and also a gym teacher and softball coach; at St. Patrick, also served as an usher and altar server for many years. He enjoyed watching TV especially game shows, and sports, most notably the Pirates, Yankees and Steelers. Charles also enjoyed bowling, golfing, scratch off tickets, candy and his favorite wine, Riunite Lambrusco. He will be greatly missed.

Marie Catherine Brennan, 70, of West Mifflin, passed away Monday, August 18, 2025. She was born April 11, 1955 in Pittsburgh and was the daughter of the late Robert Paul Brennan, Sr. and Agnes (Rosepink) Brennan. She obtained a bachelors degree in Nursing from The University of Pittsburgh and another in Business From Carnegie Mellon University. She was a nurse for many years and later worked for Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield in the insurance side of health care as well. Marie was a very smart woman and good person. She was a great mother and grandmother, who raised her two sons on her own. She will be greatly missed. Shirley Harper, age 90, of West Mifflin, formerly of Duquesne, died August 15, 2005, at Southwood Assisted Living. Born February 22, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Blair and Elizabeth (Harrison) Morgan and wife of the late Robert "Bob" "Snuffy" Harper. Shirley lived a life rich in love, friendship, and community involvement.
Shirley spent many years working at the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, where she contributed her talents and became a cherished member of the Bettis Bowling League. Her warm spirit extended beyond the workplace, as she was an active member of her card club and a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Christ, where she and her husband served as youth leaders, positively impacting the lives of many young people.

Michael (Mike) Kelly, 69 of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, transitioned to eternity on Sunday, August 10, 2025. Michael was born December 26, 1955, to the late Clyde C. Kelly Sr. and Viola Flowers Kelly. Michael was a 1973 graduate of McKeesport Senior High School and later attended the Community College of Allegheny County, South Campus on a basketball scholarship. He worked at LaRosa Boys and Girls Club, U.S. Steel Irvin Works, and retired from General Motors, where he worked for over 30 years.
Michael enjoyed sports of all sorts. He was an avid tennis player and golfer. He enjoyed the outdoors and started to try his hand at pickleball. Michael loved family time and enjoyed making up games and watching the kids and later the grandchildren compete for small prizes. He loved attending the grandchildren’s sports events and school activities and was very proud of their accomplishments.

James “Chip” F. Hull Jr., age 71 of East McKeesport, went to be with the Lord, his infant son, and family on Friday, August 8, 2025. He was born October 20, 1953 in McKeesport, a son of the late James F. and Alice (Jones) Hull. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Plum Borough.
Chip attended McKeesport area schools, played Little League baseball and was part of a championship team with Jaycox Funeral Home. He was a member of the McKeesport Little Theater in high school where he met his eternal love when he played her grandfather in The Five Little Peppers. After marrying his high school sweetheart, Chip enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1971 where he became a dental assistant and was honorably discharged in 1975. He returned home with his family and worked in the blast furnace at U.S. Steel Duquesne Works, the blast furnace his great-grandfather helped to build.
In 1980, he returned to school and received his degree and became a Physician’s Assistant and then was certified later that year. He had a long career where he worked in the federal prison system, and in the fields of occupational health, psychiatric health, emergency medicine, and family practice, which was his favorite. He was loved by his patients, especially children. He then went into educating future Physician’s Assistants as an Assistant Professor.
At the time of his retirement, he was the founding Director of the Physician’s Assistant Program at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina.

Marilyn J. (Welty) Bertok, 80, of Liberty Borough, formerly of East McKeesport, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. She passed peacefully at home. She was born September 3, 1944, at Braddock Hospital, the daughter of the late Edwin C. “Bud” Welty Sr. and late Esther P. (Hite) Welty. Marilyn loved babysitting her grandchildren, enjoyed horseback riding, baking, car rides, going to Kennywood, and traveling to Gettysburg.
As a teenager, she would spend her summers at her adored Uncle George and Aunt Lois Armstrong’s farm in Lewistown, PA where she would swim in the Juniata River, help with farm chores, and ride horses. Marilyn was renowned for her nut rolls. Marilyn loved her family and devoted herself to them. Marilyn was a retired toll booth collector for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.
She is survived by her children, John K. Bertok of Liberty Borough, Karyn Bertok of Liberty Borough, and Mark Bertok and his wife, Kristin of Port Vue, and beloved grandchildren, Austin, Kelsey, and Canon Bertok; her brother, Edwin C. “Bud” Welty, Jr. and his wife, Clara, of East McKeesport, good friend Sally McDermott; also a niece and nephews. Marilyn also leaves behind her cat, Scooter, and grand-dogs, Peppie and Daisy.

Frederick E. "Fred" Miller, Jr., 78, of North Huntingdon, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025 after a five year battle with ALS at his daughter's residence. Fred was born March 2, 1947 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Frederick E. Miller, Sr. and Margaret (Wigand) Miller Smith. Fred was a US ARMY Veteran, who served during the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge as Seargent, he was awarded The Purple Heart with 1 Device, The Bronze Star Medal with 1 Device, The Good Conduct Medal, The Combat Infantryman Badge, The Vietnam Campaign Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. Upon Completion of his military service, Fred would go on to work for US Steel Irvin Works for over 50 years, retiring as a manager. He enjoyed working and watching TV. He loved spending time with his family, and in later years, fishing with his family. He will be greatly missed.

Patsy Malley, age 84 of North Huntingdon, passed away on August 15, 2025, at Golden Heights Care Home. She was born on October 2, 1940 in Fordyce, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Claude Ratliff and Arrie Courtney Ratliff. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Greensburg. In her free time, Patsy enjoyed gardening, and she liked to keep a watchful eye on her social media accounts. Most of all, Patsy cherished the time spent with her family. In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by her husband John Malley in July 2025, six brothers, Alan, Russell, Troy, L.B., Herbert and Milford, and four sisters, Darlene, Frances, Carolyn, and Marcelle. Danny Lee Miller, age 76 of Clairton, passed away at home on Thursday, August 14, 2025. Born December 7, 1948 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late Clarence and Jennie (Stearns) Miller. A retired yard supervisor at Mon River Supply in West Elizabeth, Danny was a 1968 graduate of Clairton High School and a US Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was also a life member, former president, and served ranks from 1st. Lieutenant to Chief with the Forward Twp. VFD. He was captain of the Fire/Police Organization and its treasurer, and he was active with the Junior Fire Coordinators, EMTs, a BSA/Webelos leader and assistant Scout Leader, and a union commissioner. Danny is survived by his daughter Ehrin (Bill) Miller Murray; his granddaughter Abigail Murray; his siblings Barbara (the late Alton) McCullough, Curtis S. (Adrianne) Miller, Ray R.
