Julia (Zaken) Spernak, age 89, of Elizabeth Twp., passed away on Monday, June 26, 2017 at home. She was a retired school bus driver for Laidlaw. She was a member of St. Michael Parish in Elizabeth Twp. and a former member of Blaine Hill Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to play cards. Born August 19, 1927 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Zaken) Zaken and wife of the late Victor Spernak. She is survived by her sons, Dennis "Fuzzy" (Terry) Spernak of Mt. Lebanon, Joseph Spernak, Victor Spernak of Blaine Hill, and Ron "Flat" Spernak of Forward Twp.; sisters, Janet Rethage of Elizabeth Twp. and Anna May Janicki of Ormand Beach, FL; devoted granddaughters, Stephanie, Ashley and Emily Spernak; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; also, nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, Elizabeth on Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 6-8 PM and Friday, June 30, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 9:30 AM in St. Michael Parish with Rev. Thomas A. Wagner officiating. Burial will follow in Monongahela Cemetery, Monongahela.

Edward O.L. Redbird “Sonny” Hale, III, age 63, of Elizabeth, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017 at Jefferson Hospital. He was a former pile driver with the carpenters union, a tribal member of the MHA Nation in New Town, North Dakota and a bundle carrier, three clan. He was a founding member of the Pittsburgh American Indian Center working with families and children to teach the Native American culture. He was a 1971 graduate of Elizabeth Forward High School where he was a standout football player, eventually receiving a scholarship to North Carolina State. Sonny enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson and also enjoyed riding bulls, horses, bareback and breaking wild horses.

She was the wife of the late William D. Beck and the late Douglas Ferguson. Flora Bell was a member of the Norwin Christian Church. She is survived by daughters, Marcia (Dick) McGowan of Roseville, CA, and Donna (James) Boone of North Huntingdon, son, Michael Beck, Sr., of McKeesport, step-sons, Douglas (Cheryl) Ferguson of Fletcher, NC, and Kirk (Mary) Ferguson of McKinney, TX, step-daughter, Diane (Donald) Frank of Mount Vernon, 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
