Phillip J. Spinosi, age 92, of White Oak, died January 17, 2021, at home. Born September 7, 1928, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Julius and Rose (Borrelli) Spinosi and the husband of the late Mary T. Spinosi.

Phillip retired from US Steel National Tube Works, where he was a rigger with 44 years of service. He was a US Navy veteran serving during WWII, where he was the quarterback of the Navy football team in Pensacola, FL. Phillip was a member of the Mary, Mother of God Parish.

James Fedasz

James Fedasz, age 94, of McKeesport, died January 15, 2021, at Canterbury Place.  Born February 19, 1926, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Harry and Anna (Tech) Fedasz.  Jim was a 1944 graduate of McKeesport High School and furthered his education at Carnegie Tech (Carnegie Mellon University).  He would then go on to join the Army, 103rd Division in France during World War II. 

He earned the EAME Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars, the Army Occupation of Germany Medal, Victory Ribbon, and a Good Conduct Medal.  He fought significant battles in Central Europe & The Rhineland alongside the French First Army and French Moroccan Soldiers and was also an Honor Guard for General Patton.  Using the GI Bill he earned, Jim enrolled at the North West School of Neon (Oregon Polytechnic Institute) to learn the craft. 

Once back home in McKeesport, he had his own one-man neon sign shop on Walnut Street in McKeesport, and his neon signs could be found at businesses and schools throughout the area. 

Jim was a talented artist and was a member of the McKeesport Art Group.  He loved to paint and sculpt with wood and bronze, and his painting of the B&O Crossing (in McKeesport) and sculpture of the SS McKeesport are in the permanent collection at the McKeesport Heritage Center. 

At home, his garden became another canvas for his artistic talents.  Using different colors and textures of grasses, Jim created his last name in letters large enough to be seen from a helicopter.   He was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish, Corpus Christi Church, where he was an usher.  As an avid duckpin bowler, his artistry with the ball was apparent, bowling numerous 300 games.

Michael P. Carnahan, age 51, of Mt. Vernon, died January 13, 2021, at UPMC McKeesport. Born December 27, 1969, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late David E. and Mary Jane (Matuschek) Carnahan and the husband and best friend of Sandra (Buotte) Carnahan.

Michael was vice-president and general manager of Scalo Solar Solutions, a division of Burns & Scalo Roofing. He most recently completed the installation of the largest single sloped solar structure in the United States, located at Mill 19 in Hazelwood.

Patricia Ziemianski, age 76, of White Oak, formerly of North Huntingdon and Glassport, died January 12, 2021, at home surrounded by her family.  Born November 7, 1944, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Marcella (Panek) Raymer and the wife of the late Richard Ziemianski.  Patricia was the owner and manager of The Ziemianski Inn in Glassport.  She was known for being a character and loved to laugh and always cherished being surrounded by her friends and family.  During her time at The Inn, she welcomed patrons from around the world and enjoyed sharing a Sunday meal.

Kathryn "Katie" Scalzitti, age 56, of North Huntingdon, went to meet Jesus December 22, 2020, at home. Born October 9, 1964, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd "Bud" and Jane (Quinn) Johnston and the wife of the late Terry Scalzitti.

Katie was an X-ray Technician in her early years. She worked at her brother's auto dealerships and was a co-owner of Terry's Auto Glass and Hempfield Motors. Katie was also a proven interior designer.  Katie enjoyed traveling, attending bible study, and spoiling her numerous nieces and nephews. She had the most wonderful sense of humor and was a very giving person to all she knew. Katie loved all animals and adored her cat, "Taz," along with all her other pets that have preceded her in death and crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

Katie is survived by her twin brother, Dan Johnston, her loving sisters, Patty (Tom) Ziegler, Pam, MaryEllen, Sandy, and Elizabeth.

Daryl M. Bowen, age 92, of White Oak, died December 30, 2020, at William Penn Care Center. Born November 15, 1928, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Gladys M. (Jones) Mooney and the wife of the late William C. Bowen, Sr. for 58 years.
Daryl retired from the former Equibank of White Oak and, prior Westinghouse Atomic Plant of West Mifflin. She was a Graduate of McKeesport High School Class of 1946 and in the High School Choir. She was a graduate of Robert Morris Business School. Daryl was a member of the Calvary-First United Methodist Church of McKeesport, where she was in the United Methodist Women's Group. She was also a member of the Garden Club, and the Youghiogheny Country Club, where she played tennis. She also enjoyed singing in the high school choir ,church choir and Valley Voices singing group, dining out and traveling with her family.

Sharene worked in child care throughout her life. She had a passion for art, often expressing it in her drawings and paintings. Sharene adored her grandchildren, they were the light of her life.

Elizabeth C. (Betts) Romick, age 95, of Versailles Borough, died December 24, 2020, at ManorCare Health Services of Bethel Park. Born April 7, 1925, in South Side, Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Ludwig and Anna (Raulinaitis) Laukaitis and the wife of the late Charles R. Romick for 53 years.
Elizabeth retired as a teacher's aide for the McKeesport Preschool for Exceptional Children. She was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish, Corpus Christi worship site, a Christian Mother at Corpus Christi Church, and a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas McKeesport Court No 221. Elizabeth enjoyed attending her quilting group at Beulah Park Church and the Prayer Shawl Ministry at Corpus Christi. She was a community ambassador for the Center for Healthy Aging at the University of Pittsburgh. Elizabeth was incredibly proud of her Lithuanian heritage. Many will remember the stories she shared about how thrilled she was to experience a hot air balloon ride on her 70th birthday. Elizabeth had a passion for ice skating, beginning when she was young skating at Duquesne Gardens and continuing when she was older at South Park with her husband, Charles.
