John Robert Sims, Jr., age 76, of White Oak, died on Monday, October 17, 2022. He was born in Pittsburgh on December 21, 1945 and is the son of the late John Robert, Sr. and Gay Marie Hessenmueller Sims. He proudly served in the United States Navy and was stationed on the same submarine that is at the Carnegie Science Center. After serving in the military, John was employed at the Hilton in downtown Pittsburgh, he worked in sales for many years, He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a masters in sociology. He then taught at various colleges throughout the area including the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Duquesne, La Roche University, and the Community College of Allegheny County. In 1998 he founded the Single and Custodial Father’s Network and continued there until its closing when he retired in 2005. He provided help to many, many people throughout the years.

He was born in McKeesport on October 27, 1950 and is the son of the late Joseph Stephen, Sr. and Katherine Lytle Szalko. He was a 1969 graduate of Duquesne High School and was employed at US Steel, Edgar Thompson Plant, in their railroad division. Joseph was very good in baseball in his younger years and played semi pro for the Zemps. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards and coins, and watching sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates. He also loved animals and especially his cat, Charlie.
