John E. Chlystek, age 90, of McKeesport, died Saturday, June 15, 2019. He was born June 1, 1929 in McKeesport, the son of the late Adam and Cecilia Weron Chlystek, and was the husband of the late Georgetta Craine Chlystek. John served in the United States Army during the Korean War and retired from McKeesport’s former Fort Pitt Steel Casting Company.

He is survived by his daughters; Patty Smith of Myrtle, SC, Cathy (Bob) McCort of Blairsville, and Tammy (Lou) Warman of McKeesport; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received at Striffler’s of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, Supervisor  412-678-6177) on Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 10:00 am until the time of service at noon. Services will be held in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow.

Catherine D. Yurechko, age 90, of White Oak, died Thursday, June 13, 2019.  She was born in Pittsburgh on September 15, 1928 and is the daughter of the late Vincent and Mary Bernat Mirarchi and the wife of the late John A. Yurechko.   Catherine was employed at Magee Women’s Hospital for many years before leaving to start her own family.  She was a member of St. Angela Merici Church and was involved in the White Oak Athletic Association when her children were young.

David Hubert Scott, age 67, of North Versailles, died Monday, June 3, 2019.  He was born in McKeesport on July 8, 1951 and is the son of the late Hubert W. and Dorothy Emma Prezel Scott.  He served in the Marines during the Vietnam war.  He was a chef at Robert Morris University and at Parkhurst Dining in Pittsburgh.

He is survived by his wife, Holly McFarland Scott of McKeesport; sisters, Dorothy “Dolly” (Rich) Loughner of Greensburg, Pat (Bill) Rugh of N. Versailles, Evelyn (George) Velardo of Versailles, Janet Kostic of Madison; also beloved nieces and nephews.

Domenico Consales

Domenico Consales, 89, of White Oak, died Monday, May 27, 2019.  He emigrated in 1963 from his birthplace of Mondragone, Italy, where he was born on March 14, 1930.  He was the oldest offspring and only son of the late Salvatore Consales and Matilde Del Prete.  

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Michelina (d'Aiello) Consales and daughter Matilde of White Oak.  He is also survived by sisters; Vittoria Consales of Rome, Italy, and Maria Consales of Caserta, Italy, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Carmela.  

In Italy, he worked in agriculture with his family from a very young age, and for many years.  In the United States, he began working in shipping and packing for Berarducci Brothers.  He was a welder at Reliance Steel in Christy Park, a machinist for Westinghouse Airbrake, and a guard at Kane in McKeesport.

He was a member of St. Angela Merici Church.  He was known for being a very strong-willed, anxious, independent, neat, organized, and frugal man.  He told many stories of his beloved Italy.  He loved to walk, read, sunbathe, garden, and bake bread, all while being very much a homebody.  He could build or fix anything for the home from scratch, often with impressive detail.  He enjoyed desserts and Italian music.  He was a devoted husband and dedicated father.  He was a thoughtful brother, and caring and affectionate uncle who loved talking to and being with his family.  

Friends and family will be received at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (412-678-6177) on Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 10:00am until 12:00pm.  A mass of Christian burial will follow at St. Angela Merici church, 1640 Fawcett Avenue, White Oak, PA 15131 at 12:30pm. Entombment will follow.

Albert Edward Petras, age 76, of White Oak, died May 27, 2019. He is the son of the late Frank and Anna Evans Petras and was born in Glassport on Nov. 15, 1942. He was retired from Aristech Corporation as a chemical engineer, was a captain in the army during the Vietnam Era, was a member of St. Angela Merici Church where he was the president of the Holy Name Society, a very active volunteer, as well as serving as an usher.

Karen Litzinger, age 74, of Pitcairn, died Thursday, May 16, 2019. She was born in Pittsburgh on October 8, 1944 and is the daughter of the late Walter and Dorothy Bungert Argall.

 She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Dave Litzinger; sons, David (Annie) Litzinger of Irwin and Brian (Maria) Litzinger of Apex, NC; grandchildren, Elise an Brendan Litzinger; sisters, Arlene (the late George) Saula of Grampian, PA and Melanie (William) Hansen of North Huntingdon, PA; nieces and nephews, Shani (Dane) Germuska, Shara Hopkins, Brent (Chrissy) Hansen and Brynn (Phil) Morgan and numerous great nieces and nephews. Karen was a devout family-oriented person…family always came first.  She and her husband, Dave, visited Hawaii (which was Karen’s lifelong dream) for their fortieth wedding anniversary.

Patricia A. Monoyoudis, age 84, of White Oak died Tuesday, May 14, 2019.  She was born in McKeesport on December 13, 1934 and is the daughter of the late George and Elsie Peterson McAdoo. She is the wife of the late George Monoyoudis.  She was employed by the city of McKeesport where she served as the City Administrator. She held the position of Treasurer in 1976 and served in various capacities throughout the years.  She was employed part time at Compacting Tooling, Inc. in Elizabeth.  She was a member of the former McKeesport Symphony Board and the Jodie Matta-Dillinger Cancer Care Foundation at UPMC McKeesport, she was a McKeesport High School graduate and loved working on the reunion committee and she was a member of the Friday Lunch Group.

Joseph Gdovic, 91, of McKeesport, Pennsylvania died Saturday, April 20, 2019. He was born in Port Vue, Pennsylvania on January 19, 1928. He is the son of the late Michael and Anna (Koval) Gdovic. He is preceded in death (2002) by his wife Angelina “Angie” (Chiodo) Gdovic. They were married June 11, 1955 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. The family also resided for a period of time at their vacation home in Plantation, Florida. He is survived by daughters, Joanne Zettl of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; Suzanne Gdovic (James Pokorny) of Arvada, Colorado; Dianne (Phillip) Modenos of Lake Worth, Florida and son Michael Gdovic of Boca Raton, Florida. Also, grandchildren, Dianne Zettl of Columbus, Ohio; Kristen Pokorny and Sean Pokorny of Arvada, Colorado and Joseph Modenos of Lake Worth, Florida; his sister Helen (Roy) Epler of McKeesport, Pennsylvania and many nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States and the Czech Republic.

In 1945, at the young age of 17 Joe Gdovic enlisted in the Maritime Service, United States Coast Guard-Merchant Marines and served overseas in Italy & the Mediterranean Region.  Just a year later he entered active service with the United States Army, he made Private and then Sergeant and served in Japan with the Nugata Military Government Team. Between 1947 and 1951 he served at Fort Lawton, Washington and Fort Lee, Virginia. He was granted an Honorable Discharge as Sergeant and awarded the World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupational Medal, Japan. He received an Honorable Release from Active Duty as a Corporal. His hobbies during his military service included boxing and baseball. He was also quite skilled at the games of pool and cards.  He was a 47-year member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, USA.

Robert Karl Hatcher, age 94, of White Oak, died April 28, 2019.  He was born in McKeesport on July 23, 1924 and is the son of the late William P. and Clara A. Helfer Hatcher and the husband of the late Virginia Naomi Strawderman Hatcher.  He was a proud vet of the US Navy during WWII where he served in the South Pacific aboard the USS Trathen DD530.  He was a member of the White Oak American Legion Post #701 and VFW Post 8430 Hilltoppers where he enjoyed many Straub Beers with his friends.  He enjoyed flea markets, collecting cans for spare change and bowling.  He loved sharing stories about his military service and the CCC Camps in Idaho.  The family would like to thank his very good friends who helped out over the years, especially Joe, Darlene, Danny, and Daren. Robert was employed at US Steel National Tube in McKeesport until he retired. His favorite saying was, “Life is short, and the wages are small, take it easy, and God bless them all”.

She is survived by her sister, Harriet Menzer, now of Sarasota, FL, her loving son Richard Linzer and his wife Susan whom Millie loved as her daughter. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ross (Lindsey) Linzer of Davie, FL and Rabbi Maura (Liad Itzhaky) Linzer of Pleasantville, NY and her great-grandchildren, Sarah Itzhaky, Ori Itzhaky, Noah Linzer, and Zachary Linzer, relatives and many friends.
