John was devoted to his family and friends! He loved spending time with all of them! He was the life of the party, the all around jokester. He loved the Steelers, Pens, & Pirates. Lois J Carey, age 90, of McKeesport, died July 18, 2021, at home surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 11, 1930, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary (King) Scott.

Lois was a strong, hardworking woman who retired from cleaning homes at the age of 88. She was well known for her famous cheesy potatoes and her "one of a kind" baking skills, especially her Baklava. She's always had a niche for sewing and crocheting handmade gifts for her family, which they cherish dearly. Her cats and dogs were her world as she selflessly devoted all of her time to make sure they were happy. She was the "glue of the family" and will be missed dearly by all.

(Kathleen) Coulter III of McKeesport; grandmother of Dawntee “DJ” Williams, James (Rachel) Blankenship, and Bryan (Aarica) Coulter; great grandmother of Austin Blankenship, Madison Blankenship, McKenna Coulter, and Grayson Coulter; sister of Edwin (Carlene) Richards of Port Vue, Frank Richards of White Oak and predeceased by brothers and sisters, Gladys Barker Young, Norma Price, Clifford Richards, Pete Richards and Dorothy Giatroudakis.

Heaven gained a delightful new angel when Margaret Babyak Olek, 95, of North Huntingdon, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 18, 2021. She was born on April 22,1926 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late John Babyak and Margaret (Stecz) Babyak and the wife of the late John (Jack) J. Olek Jr. She is preceded in death by brother William J. (Bill) Babyak; She is survived by her sister-in-law Patricia Babyak of South Park, and brother E.J. “Al” (Freda) Babyak of Mechanicsburg. “Midge” met her husband Jack when they both worked at Duquesne Light and traveled into Pittsburgh together on the train. An active member of Mary, Mother of God, Corpus Christi Church, she was a Christian Mother and also a beloved teacher’s aide for special needs children in the McKeesport School District. Margaret also served as Secretary of the McKeesport Class of 1944 and spent many years planning reunions with her committee. In her senior years, she cherished frequent lunches with her dear friends "the church ladies." Always stylish, she was a true homemaker, and enjoyed entertaining, baking and comparing recipes. Her special “Chex mix” and “carrot cake” were family favorites. Margaret also had a passion for bird watching, gardening, polka music, playing cards and crossword puzzles.

Michael J. Simon, age 65 of Elizabeth Twp., passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021 in Jefferson Hospital.  Born February 17, 1956 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late Andrew and Diane (Chubra) Simon.  A member of New Hope Assembly of God Church in Elizabeth Twp, Michael retired as a maintenance engineer for Bettis Labs in West Mifflin, was a self-employed cement finisher, and the former owner of Simon Hauling and Construction.  He was also a basketball coach for 22 years, coaching Elizabeth Forward boys and girls, Clairton boys, and McKeesport boys.  In his spare time, Michael loved to play basketball, especially the Duquesne Serbian League, and golf.  But, most importantly, he was a well-liked member of his community and an amazing husband, father, brother, and uncle.  Michael is survived by his wife of 45 years Stacey (Shaffer) Simon; his children Tyranee and Seth Simon, both of Elizabeth Twp.; his sister Lisa (Stan "Stush") Oslowski of Glassport and their son Scott; his sister-in-law Darlene (Butch) Basic of Elizabeth Twp. and their children Courtney and Brett; and his brother-in-law Doug (Becky) Shaffer of Scottsdale, AZ and their son Derek.

Ray K. Long, 91, of North Huntingdon, Pa., passed away Monday, July 19, 2021 at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital. Son of the late Harry and Sarah Long.   He was preceded in death by Wife of 59 years Sally Long and daughter Carole Long-Huzella at age 57. Ray was a US Navy veteran of 4 years during the Korean War. He graduated from Penn State Extension McKeesport. He retired in 1990 from IBM after 35 years. Ray was a life member of the Amateur Trap Association, NRA, North America Hunting Club, White Oak Rod & Gun Club, America League and a social number of the Hartford Height VFD.  He is survived by his son, Scott Long of St. Petersburg FL.; son-in-law, Thomas Huzella of Alexandria VA; cherished grandfather of Mollie Huzella-Camp; and great-grandfather of Tommy Camp.  Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon.  A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.  Interment to follow in Brush Creek Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Hope Presbyterian Church.  www.shirleyfuneralhome.com

Erin Bachman, age 49, of McKeesport, died July 16, 2021, at home after surviving 3 years with colon cancer. Born October 14, 1971, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of Sandy Bachman of McKeesport and the late Raymond Bachman of Versailles Boro.
Erin was relentless against any obstacle thrown her way. She was and always will be her mother’s hero. Erin enjoyed listening to music, dancing to it, or even writing her own songs for her lord and savior, Jesus Christ. She was able to live the rest of her life with her sweetheart, Maurice "Mo" Chepell, by her side.  Erin was 1993 graduate of McKeesport High School.

Raymond H. Shepherd, age 87 of North Huntingdon, passed away at home on Thursday, July 15, 2021.  Born June 24, 1934 in Coulter, he was a son of the late Plummer and Estelle (McLaughlin) Shepherd.  Raymond was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Council 955; a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union, #146 and member and past president of its Men's Club; a member of the Elizabeth Twp. Historical Society; and the St. Patrick's Holy Name Men's Club. He worked for thirty-five years as a railroad-man, employed by the B&O, C&O, and CSX Railways and receiving many awards.   Raymond also loved his family dearly, and devoted much of his time to helping them and others, his friends, and his hometown of Coulter.  He helped write the book detailing the history of Coulter and Alpsville and was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish - St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in McKeesport.  Besides his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his children Raymond Shepherd, Jr. and Joseph Shepherd; his brothers John, Plummer, Frank (Mike), and James Shepherd; his brother-in-law George Haines; and his great-grandson Frankie Rivera.  He was a loving husband to his wife of forty-five years, JoAnn (Champ) Shepherd.  Raymond is also survived by his daughters Michelle (Dave) Skarzynski, Estelle (Barry) Minkel, Stephanie Shepherd, and Jean (Todd) Shepherd; his grandchildren Julie, Daniel, Elaina, Sean, Allison, Ryan, Dalane, Todd, Jr., and Grace; his great-grandchildren Ronan, Maeve, Emery, and Tomás; his cherished sister Carol Haines; his sisters-in-law Janet and Theodora Shepherd; and also nieces and nephews.
