Lorraine J. (Marcus) Babyak, age 76, of Elizabeth Twp., passed away on Friday, May 29, 2020 in Jefferson Hospital. She was a member of St. Michael Parish in Elizabeth Twp., a former lunch aid at Elizabeth Elementary School and she was an avid Steelers fan. She loved spending time with her family, never missed an episode of The Young & the Restless, and also loved cats. Born October 4, 1943 in Glassport, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Nellie (Boczar) Marcus. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Irwin “Butch” Babyak; daughter, Cheryl (Gregg) Maley of Elizabeth Twp.; sons, Michael Babyak of Baldwin and Joseph Babyak of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Bobby and Troy Maley and Samantha and Taylor Babyak; great-grandchildren, Jude Maley and Lacey Babyak; also, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Wirbicki and brothers, Jim and Stephen Marcus. No visitation is planned. Joan Marie Martell, age 57 of Clairton, passed away at home on Wednesday, May 27, 2020.  Born August 31, 1962 in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late Samuel J. and JoAnn (Santoline) Martell.  A registered nurse at nursing homes around the Mon Valley, Joan is survived by her son Jordan L. Martell-Hatchett of Clairton; her granddaughters Alivia and Vanessa Martell; her brothers Dean Martell of Pittsburgh, Ronald Martell of Clairton, and Philip (Trish) Martell of Elizabeth; her nieces and nephew Garrett, Alexandra, and Maya Martell; and her aunt Rose "Tootie" Kehoe.

Geraldine Ruth Gibala, age 92 of Liberty Borough, passed away at home on Wednesday, May 27, 2020.  Born September 21, 1927 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late Clifford C. and Alice Mary (Leathers) Dunlap.  A former waitress with the Belmont Restaurant in Liberty Borough who also worked at Zayre's and Macko's Restaurant, Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband Henry "Hank" Gibala, who passed away January 25, 2017, and her daughter Linda (Frank) McCullers Reichenbach Andy, who passed away June 21, 2017.  She is survived by her children Michelle (fiancee' Bruce Wargo) Molanick of Port Vue and Curtis (Sandy) McCullers of Scottdale; her six grandchildren; her seven great-grandchildren; her four great-great-grandchildren; and also nieces and nephews.

She was a former pianist at many area churches and a volunteer pianist for the Elizabeth Twp. Historical Society. Born June 27, 1939 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late Alvin and Hazel (McCoy) Black and wife of the late Edward M. Withers, who passed away January 6, 2020. She is survived by her daughters, Lori Nicholson of Chatham, VA, Holly (Jeff) Slavin of Painesville, OH and Jill Withers of Columbus, OH; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; also, nieces and nephews. John Booth, age 94, a resident of Atria Assisted Living and formerly of Elizabeth Twp., passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020 at Atria Assisted Living. An Army veteran having served in World War II, he retired after 20 years as a water tender for U.S. Steel Clairton Works. He was a former manager at Stanley’s Tire Service and a former coal stripper at Twilight Industries, and was a member of Ella Hollow Bible Church in Monongahela. Born September 12, 1925 in Jefferson Borough, he was a son of the late Abel and Gertrude Booth, and husband of the late Audrey (McWhirter) Booth. He is survived by son, Jack (Linda) Booth of Clairton; granddaughter, Mary Catherine (Phillip) DiMarco of Jefferson Hills; great-grandchildren, Christina and Domenic DiMarco of Jefferson Hills; also, nieces and nephews. Joseph C. Strinich, age 96, of Elizabeth, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020 at home. He was a member of St. Michael Parish in Elizabeth Twp. and a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union. A Duquesne University graduate majoring in math and science, he was a 20-year employee of Kaufmann's after he retired as a roller at U.S. Steel Clairton Works after more than 40 years. An Army veteran of World War II where he flew a glider, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, European African Medal, Eastern Campaign Medal with six Bronze Stars, and fought at Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, and Omaha Beach. He and his troops were responsible for the fall of Eagle's Nest (Hitler's house). Born May 19, 1923 in Clairton, he was a son of the late Luka and Manda (Borich) Strinich, and husband of his beloved wife of 68 years, Catherine (Gatto) Strinich, who died July 6, 2019. He is survived by daughters, Catherine (Jim) Lowery of Peter’s Twp. and Denise (Chuck) Longo-Hendzel of Elizabeth; beloved grandpet, Opie; also, numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by son, Louis Strinich; sisters, Katie Strinich, Olga Kaylo and Ann Weinberger; and brothers, Pete "Simon", Mark and Matthew "Vic" Strinich. Lois (Dandoy) Covelli, age 85, of Elizabeth, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Allegheny General Hospital. She was a retired registered nurse at Jefferson Hospital and a graduate of the Pittsburgh School of Nursing as well as Mary Mount Manhattan College in New York City. She was a member of St. Isaac Jogues Church in Elrama where she was a eucharistic minister and lector. She enjoyed flower gardening and spending time with her nieces and nephews. Born March 15, 1935 in Elizabeth, she was a daughter of the late Emile M. and Theresa (Rich) Dandoy. She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Anthony Covelli, as well as her nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Marian Gemmell and Lillian Dandoy. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 47 years, David H. Joan R. Jaskolski, age 91 of Jefferson Hills, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 in Manor Care Health Services, Whitehall.  Born May 22, 1928 in Clairton, she was a daughter of the late Achille Miere and Margaret (Viglietta) Miere DiDominic.  Joan worked as a cook, first for Keck's Restaurant in Clairton, then US Steel Clairton Works, and finishing in the Canteen at Westinghouse Corp.  She was also a member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish, the Women's Guild of Clairton, the Sacred Heart Spiritual Society, and the Christian Mothers of the former St. Paulinas Church.  Her family will remember her as a hard working woman who always put her children before herself.  Everything was family.  Besides her family, Joan was preceded in death by her husband Joseph L. Jaskolski, who passed away June 20, 2004, and her siblings Eugene and Ernie Miere and Josephine Petrucci.  She is survived by her children Anna Mae (Vic) Barden of Southlake, TX, Dennis J. Jaskolski of Jefferson Hills, Debbie (Daniel) Grant of Jefferson Hills, and Angela (Joseph) Bonaccorsy of Waldorf, MD; her eight grandchildren; her seven great-grandchildren; her sisters Jeannie (Tony) Castellano of Glenshaw and Connie (Edmund) DePaula of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
