Marie Virginia Killian Race, 86, of Elizabeth Township, died Friday, September 29. 2017. She was born November 17, 1930 at home on 28th Street in Christy Park and was the daughter of the late Peter and Marie Kreson Killian. She was the wife of the late Thomas Edward Race, Jr. who passed away March 15, 2013. They were married for 60 years. She was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Romanian Byzantine Church, Christy Park, where she was a former choir director, and bulletin preparer. She also designed pass outs and announcements, participated in cooking dinners, bake sales, bingos and various other money raising projects. Marie was active in International Village, She took part in the first festivity in 1960, and helped design Romanian floats and booths until 1975. At the 2009 Village, Marie was recognized for having designed the first International Village symbol in 1960 and was honored and given a "key to the city" from Mayor Brewster.
Pamela Sue Kynor Cassin, 43, of Elizabeth Township, died Monday, September 25, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 16, 1974 in McKeesport and was the daughter of Dorothy "Dot" Bryce Mihalic of Elizabeth Township and Garrett "Gary" (Denise) Kynor of Versailles. Pam was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church of North Huntingdon and was a hairdresser and bartender. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her children, Hannah Hughes, Dylan Winters, Leah Cassin and Chaise Faychak, sisters, Cynthia Lee (Jay) Weinberg of North Huntingdon and Melissa Ann Mihalic Raynes of Jefferson Hills, brothers, Charles Allen (Peaches) Boyles of Elizabeth Township and Garrett Clyde Kynor, Jr., of Pleasant Hills, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Winters, daughter, Shelby Lynn Albeck, sister, Lisa Kynor and brother, Richard Crammer.
Gary S. Dillinger, 65, of Dravosburg, died Sunday, September 24, 2017. He was born April 30, 1952 in McKeesport and was the son of the late John and Anna L. Shollenberger Dillinger . He was the husband of 29 years of Georgette M. Momich Dillinger of Dravosburg. Gary was a USMC veteran and worked as both a crane operator and river boat operator for The Union Railroad for 31 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Tina M. (Jeff) Pancoast of West Mifflin, Jennifer Dillinger of West Mifflin, and Dawn Pancoast of Munhall, sons, David Dillinger of West Mifflin, Michael Crux of Las Vegas, NV, grandchildren, Katelynn Mozes, Brandon Orr, Maddie Holby and Katelynn Gavel, great-grandson, Avery Mozes, brothers, John "Jack" (Diane) of New Kensington, Robert "Dobe" (Diane) of Whitaker and George Dillinger of White Oak, and nieces and nephews.
Dorothy Mae Walter, 86, of Elizabeth Township, died Friday, September 22, 2017. She was born April 10, 1931 in Jefferson Township and was the daughter of the late John W. and Edna E. Williams Greenewald. Dorothy was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Boston where she was a member of the choir and taught Sunday School for 60 years. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Robert N. Walter, sons, The Rev. R. Paul (Lorrie) Walter of Liberty Borough and Thomas C. (Deborah) Walter of Elizabeth Township, daughter, Jeanne (John) Hutchison of Jefferson Hills, sisters, Mary Godlewski of Perryopolis and The Rev. Joan (Armand) Rousseaux of Ringold, 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Martha Marie Hubans, 85, of Lincoln Borough, died Sunday, September 17, 2017. She was born October 31, 1931 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late John and Mary M. Banik Gajdzik. She was the wife of the late Stephen A. Hubans who died May 2, 2011. She was a member of St. Michael Parish in Elizabeth Township and was also a member of the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church in McKeesport where she was the church's organist for 40 years. Martha owned and operated her own Beauty Shop at home. She is survived by her daughters, Stephanie Flister of West Mifflin and Marcy (Michael) Hall of Elizabeth Township, son, Robert J. (Judy) Hubans of Elizabeth Township, sister, Maryann (Mike) Palyo of Lincoln Borough, 4 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Elaine M. Minnick, 91, of McKeesport, died Monday, September 18, 2017. She was born August 12, 1926 in McKeesport and was the wife of 53 years to the late Oscar F. Minnick. She was a member of the former St. Mary's Catholic Church in McKeesport and was a member of St. Angela Merici Church in White Oak. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Elaine loved crossword puzzles and Polka dancing. She is survived by her sons, John R. (Christy) Minnick of Phoenix, AZ, David P. (Jill) Minnick of White Oak, and granddaughter, Nicole L. Minnick of White Oak who was the apple of Grandma's eye, and nieces and nephews.
Robert "Bob" Terrance Jones, 64, of Elizabeth Township, died Sunday, September 17, 2017. He was born December 5, 1952 in McKeesport and was the son of the late William "Casey" Jones and the late Lenora Cuppett Jones McAllister. Bob was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Boston and worked for ECOLAB. He was a member of F & AM Polaris Lodge # 375 and was a Volunteer Fireman for the Buena Vista Fire Co. He is survived by his wife, Terri Lynn Jordan Jones, sons, Scott Jones of Lincoln and Erik R. Jones of Elizabeth Township, brother, Ted (Kathleen) Jones of Andover, OH, aunt, Georgie Gallo of Pittsburgh, mother-in-law, Virginia Jordan of Elizabeth Township, brothers-in-law, Bruce (Joan) Jordan of McKeesport and Dale Jordan of Elizabeth Township, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Annette M. Kulasa, 68, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017 in Orlando, FL after a long struggle with MS. She was born July 21, 1948 and was the daughter of the late Helen and Leon Kulasa of McKeesport, PA. She was Aunt Nettie to all of her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who loved her dearly. She was a loving sister to her brothers Bo Kulasa of Monroeville, PA; Ben (Kathy) Kulasa of Delmont, PA; and sisters Janice Kulasa of Enterprise, FL; MaryAnn (John) Boicourt of Peachtree City, GA and Dottie (Tom) Drake of Kissimmee, FL. A resident of Pennsylvania, Atlanta, GA, and, since 1996, in Orlando, FL, Annette devoted herself to God and the Catholic Church in its schools and parishes.
Margaret D. Kern, 90, of Greenock, died Wednesday, September 13, 2017. She was born December 20, 1926 in Pittsburgh and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rena Bullister Donnelly. She was the wife of the late Albion Ray Kern who died February 1, 2002. Together they owned and operated the former Sunray Pools in McKeesport. She had previously worked in the accounting department of the former Carnegie Tech in Oakland. She is survived by her son, Gary R. (Shelley) Kern of Elizabeth Township, daughters, Janet (Dean) Harbry of Atlanta, GA, and Karen Greenwald of Greenock, grandchildren, Heather, Amber, Zoe, Shannon, Evan, Ryan, Liam, Erin, Megan, Kern, and Keith, 12 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Jamie Norbert Winters, 47, of Elizabeth Township, died Tuesday, September 5, 2017. He was born December 31, 1969 in McKeesport and was the son of Agnes J. Martis Winters of Elizabeth Township and the late Norbert Ralph Winters. Jamie was a Chef at Woody's Restaurant in Versailles. In addition to his mother, he is survived by sisters, Valerie (Kerry) Jones of Londonderry Township, and Judy (David) Hall of Greenock, brothers, Jerry and Gregg Winters of Elizabeth Township and Pastor Jeff (Michelle) Winters of Finleyville, aunt, Joan Winters of White Oak, his fiancée, Dayna Blazek and her son, Tyler of Uniontown, a niece, Brittany (Keegan) McGregor, nephews, Barrett (Holly) Jones, Brent (Mary) Jones, Blake (Heather) Jones, Brandon (Kate) Jones, and Brent and Brock Winters, great-nieces, Ellie and Sophie Jones, great-nephews, Zachary, Charlie, Teddy, Noah, and Owen Jones, and his loving dog, Spike.
Carol Catherine O'Connell, 94, of North Huntingdon, formerly of Mount Vernon, died Monday, September 4, 2017 at home. She was born December 18, 1922 in Elizabeth and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Trasp Bauer. She was the wife of the late Francis Xavier "Fritz" O'Connell who died August 15, 2012. They were married for 61 years. She was a member of St. Patrick Parish in Christy Park and was also a member of the Ladies Guild and Resurrection Society. She was also a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in North Huntingdon. She was the proprietor of her own in home beauty shop and had worked for US Steel Christy Park Works testing bomb shells during WWII. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Mary (Gery) Stafford of Gaithersburg, MD, son, Daniel Francis ( Karen Jean) O'Connell of Severna Park, MD, sisters, Jean Conn of White Oak and Elaine Jackson of Irwin, grandchildren, Jeremy, Meghan, and Ross Stafford and Daniel O'Connell, sisters-in-law, Mabel Bauer and Jane Bauer, nieces and nephews.
Lawrence F. "Larry" Miller, 72, of White Oak, died Sunday, September 3, 2017. He was born April 3, 1945 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Francis S. and Martha L. Hollen Miller. Larry was a member of Christ the Light of the World Parish and was a US Army Veteran. He was a retired electrician and had worked for US Steel Irvin Works, Lorraine Works and the former Duquesne Works. Larry was a coach at the White Oak Athletic Association for 15 years and was also a former White Oak Councilman. He is survived by his wife, Janet Sue Buchleitner Miller, sons, Matthew L. (Leah) Miller of Indiana and Martin P. Miller of White Oak, sister, Lois Brosky of Greensburg, grandchildren, Michael Barker and Leah Jane Bogdanski, 4 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Richard Potochny, 76, of Greenock, died Sunday, September 3, 2017 in Butler Memorial Hospital. He was born April 27, 1941 in New York, and was the son of the late John and Inger Olsen Potochny. Richard was an Elected Primary Official with Teamster's Local 273 retiring in June, 2000. He was a Senior Captain in the US Army and served from 1960-1972, which included 2 tours in Vietnam. He is survived by his wife, Julia "Judy" Elizabeth Bryant Potochny, sons, Mark (Dena) Potochny of Madison, IN, Jim (Christine) Potochny of Alexandria, VA, Michael (Mary Kay) Potochny of Greenock, and John H. James E. "Jim" Sabo, 68, of Versailles, died Saturday, September 2, 2017. He was born May 23, 1949 in McKeesport and was the son of the late John J. "Tony" and Alice Marie Wilkins Sabo. Jim was a member of the Port Vue United Methodist Church. He was a retired Letter Carrier and worked 8 years in McKeesport and 28 years in Glassport. He was a US Army Veteran and served in the Vietnam War. For his service he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Combat infantryman Badge. He is survived by his wife, Ruth A. Lapsley Sabo, sons, Jeffrey Sabo of Elizabeth Township and Brian James (Jenny Cook) Sabo of Newport News, VA, and grandchildren, Madison and Marisa Sabo and Caylyn Cook.
Melodie Joan Robb, 52, of McKeesport, died Friday September 1, 2017. She was born May 8, 1965 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late Lorin Charles and Gloria Jean "Dewy" Sokol Lesko. Melodie was a member of St. Mary's Romanian Church in Christy Park and was a house keeper. She was the most giving and loving person anyone would have ever known. She had the biggest heart. She loved going to church and serving the Lord everyday. She is survived by her brothers, Terry (Suzanne) Lesko of Greenfield and Andrew Lesko of McKeesport, sister, Toni Lesko of Boston, nieces, Kristie (Sean) Egnatz, Melonie Lesko and Amber Jones, nephews, Jerid Lesko, David Lesko, Everett Lesko, and Terry Lesko, Jr., Thaddias Anderson, Jeromie (Mandi) Anderson and Jordan (Jelitza) Anderson, Joey, Jack and Max, great-nieces, Shelbie, Mikayla and Jasmine, great-nephews, Sean Jr., Jeromie Jr., Mateo, Jordan and Jacob, and many friends.
