Irene (Bodnar) Prokop, 88, of Elizabeth Township, formerly of McKeesport, passed away Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at Country Meadows of South Hills.  Born May 24, 1928, in Hungary, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Magdalene (Lakatos) Bodnar; and wife of the late Emil "Moe" Prokop.  Irene worked for Bell Telephone as a service representative and then went on to retire as a teacher's aide from Allegheny Intermediate Unit. She also volunteered at McKeesport and St. Clair Hospital. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Keith) Drudy, Kenny (Linda) Prokop and Richard (Lisa) Prokop; grandchildren, Darren Drudy, Kristen (Bevan) Drudy-Court, Richard Prokop II and Lyndsay Prokop. She was preceded in death by her sister, Zella Kozusko; and brother, Alex Bodnar. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, at JAYCOX-JAWORSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at St. Michael Church in Elizabeth.  Father Thomas Wagner will officiate. David A. Demchak

David A. Demchak, age 71 of McKeesport, formerly of Clairton, passed away Friday, August 26, 2016 at UPMC McKeesport. Born February 20, 1945 in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Joseph Demchak and Anna (Hrehocik) Demchak-Durkay, and step-son of the late John Durkay. Dave was a graduate of Clairton High School, and upon graduation joined the Air Force and honorably served our country during the Vietnam Era. He later went on to work in the accounting department for US Steel, having retired after many years of service. Following his retirement, Dave proudly started his own landscaping and lawn service business, Demchak Landscaping, and also worked as a PA Constable and was a Democratic Committeeman for the City of McKeesport. He enjoyed spending time with his family and two dogs, Yogi and Snickers, and he will be missed at Dot's Family Restaurant where he could often be seen with his friends and neighbors. He is survived by his son, David (Molly) Demchak of Monroeville and their children, Alaina, Ryan, Nathan, Lucas and Shane; daughter, Deana (Greg) Washburn of Easton, PA and their children, Alexis, Bailey, Clayton, Chloe and Halle; son, Derek (Rebecca) Demchak of Allentown, PA and their children, Sarah and Jacob; siblings, Donald (Sharon) Demchak of Plano, TX, Joann (the late Harry) Lentz of Clairton and Paul (Micky) Kearns of Munhall; companion Lauretta DeCello and former wife, Dolly Demchak. Robert J. Fransko, age 85 of White Oak, died August 21, 2016 at Shelbourne Personal Care in Butler.  Born July 4, 1931 in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Stephan and Helen (Brooks) Fransko and husband of Marcia Mae (Matwick) Fransko.  He was retired from U.S. Steel, where he worked as a Shipping Department Supervisor and also served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Scott Gregory and Douglas Stephan Fransko; daughter, Melissa Ann Corbelli; sister, Patricia Babyak; sister-in-law, Darlene O’Toole.  Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.  Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory from 11am until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2016.  Entombment will follow at Penn Lincoln Memorial Park.  Condolences may be shared at www.jaycox-jaworskifh.com.  Memorial contributions may be made to the White Oak Animal Safe Haven or the Salvation Army.

William T. “Bill” Dupier, age 78 of Port Vue, passed on August 20, 2016 at AHN Jefferson Hospital.  Born February 12, 1938 in McKeesport, he was the son of the late William and Helen (Staniek) Dupier and husband of Margaret (Cusick) Dupier for 51 years.  Bill was a great husband, father, and grandfather, who provided for his family after working for nearly 4 decades with U.S. Steel.  He had a love and appreciation for sports and enjoyed to challenge himself with difficult crossword and jigsaw puzzles. In addition to his wife, his is survived by daughters, Ann (Fran McDonald) Minicucci, of White Oak, Renee (Denny) Lawver, of Lancaster, PA,  and Paula (Keith) Gillen, of Greenfield; grandchildren, Kristen, Tommy, Michael, Kathleen, Matthew, and Sydney; sister, Barbara Cessna, of Milwaukee, WI; brothers, Walter Dupier, of York, PA and Robert Dupier, of North Huntingdon.  He is also survived by nieces and nephews.  Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 from 4-8 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, 10a.m. at Corpus Christi Parish.  Rev. Frank J. Plaza, age 98 of North Versailles, passed away on Wednesday August 17, 2016 at Manor Care Monroeville.  Born May 11, 1918 in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Casimir and Sophia (Kulasa) Plaza, and loving husband of the late Virginia (Duyec) Plaza. He is survived by his daughter, Denise Plaza-Martin and her husband Klancy Martin of Harmony, Rhode Island; grandchildren, Zachary Martin (Samantha Hughes) of Denver, CO, Grady Martin and Connor Martin, both living in Pittsburgh; siblings, Andrew (Sue) Plaza of Erie and Gladys (Sal) Gonillo of Waterbury, CT; and his beloved and devoted care giver of 7 years, Cindy Wilkins. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Walter and Stanley Plaza; and sisters, Nell Chrillo, Jane Kellar and Bernice Gall.  He is also survived by his cousin, Helen Gibala and many nieces and nephews. Frank was an officer of McKeesport PNA lodge 352 for over 40 years, where he enjoyed many years of friendship and comradery. Another great joy in his life was his hunting camp in Venango County which he shared with his hunting buddies. During the depression, Frank joined the CCC and was sent to Renovo, PA to earn money to help support his family.  World War II made Frank a soldier at age 25 as a member of Company B 311th engineer combat battalion, where he specialized in Highway Construction and was also qualified as a sharpshooter.  His honors include the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, and the Europe Asia Middle East Theater Ribbon with 1 bronze star.  After the war, Frank continued working for US Steel Christy Park Works as a crane operator.  He retired in 1981 with 40 years of service. Opal V. Evans, age 91 of McKeesport, died on August 17, 2016 at Redstone Highlands in Murrysville. Born October 18, 1924 in Export, she was the daughter of the late Orlando and Mercedes (Painter) Evans. Opal retired after 41 years as a secretary from Westinghouse and was a member of St. John Evangelical Church in McKeesport. She is survived by her brothers, Nelson Evans of Liberty Borough and Larry Evans of Spartanburg, SC; sisters, Dolores Downs of Mechanicsburg, PA and Aileen Seachrist of Monroeville, and also nieces and nephews.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory. Sandy Criscuolo, age 71 of McKeesport, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at PinnacleHealth West Shore Hospital in Mechanicsburg. Born April 25, 1945 in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late John and Martha (Holmes) Heath and loving wife of John Criscuolo for 54 years. Sandy was well known in the community as the deli manager at Marraccini Market, where she worked for 35 years until its closing. She later went on to work as a lunch aide at White Oak Elementary School. She was a member of St. Patrick Church in Christy Park, and dedicated her life to helping animals, especially her cherished new puppy, Teddy. Above all, Sandy found joy in spending time with her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children; Pamela (Bob) Szajnuk of Enola, PA and Timothy (Michelle) Criscuolo of South Chesterfield, VA; grandchildren, David, Kimmi, Nicholas, Danielle and Matthew; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Faye Tatters; brother-in-law, Richard Tatters and her beloved golden retriever, Precious.  Andrew P. “Phil” Sobczak, age 57 of Port Vue, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at his home. Born May 10, 1959 in McKeesport, he was the son of Raymond M. Sobczak and the late Mary E. (Chapaylo) Sobczak. Andrew was a graduate of Rosedale Technical Institute specializing in automotive mechanics and diesel technology. He was a certified PA state inspection mechanic currently working as an automotive fleet technician for Iron City Uniform Co. in Pittsburgh. He was a long time member of Corpus Christi Parish, formerly St. Mary Czestochowa Parish. In addition to his father, he is survived by his brother, Dennis R. (the late Lynn) Sobczak of Elizabeth; nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. Mary Ann Tassone, age 55, of West Newton, formerly of Brentwood, was freed from her battle with cystic fibrosis on August 1, 2016 at UPMC Presbyterian. Born December 20, 1960 in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Dorothy (Stiles) Hoffman and proud wife of Larry Tassone for 28 years. Mary Ann was a certified esthetician, however her greatest joy was being a homemaker and mother. She was truly a "real life Betty Crocker", and will be remembered for her amazing cooking and baking. She also enjoying spending time fishing with her husband and feeding the bunnies that would visit her in her backyard. Carrozza, age 88 of North Huntingdon, formerly of North Versailles, passed away at home on July 30, 2016.  Born June 12, 1928 in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Helen Zuccarillo and wife of the late Anthony Carrozza.  Rose was retired from the East Allegheny School District, and she also worked for various doctor offices as well as McKeesport Hospital.  She was a member of the Palenese Women’s Club of Christy Park and a former swimming instructor at the McKeesport YMCA.  She was a Steelers fanatic and had a love of old movies, crime shows, game shows, and rooted for the underdog, such as her previously deceased dog Scrapper.  She is survived by her daughters, Paula Carrozza, of Virginia Beach, VA and Linda Mitchell, of North Huntingdon; grandson, Ryan (Sanya Sandhal) Honick, of Chicago, IL; brother-in-law Bernard Carrozza.  Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Monday, August 1, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, 10 a.m., at St. Agnes Church, North Huntingdon. Dewayne B. Spate, age 86 of White Oak, formerly of McKeesport, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2016 at Briarcliff Pavilion in North Huntingdon. Born May 12, 1930 in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Leland and Minnie (Barth) Spate, and husband of Nancy (Symington) Spate for 65 years. Dewayne honorably served our country in the US Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, he began his professional career as a photographer, working for G.C. Murphy Co., and also for The Times Observer. He was a member of the former Hope United Methodist Church. Dewayne will be remembered for being one of the biggest Civil War buffs, and he enjoyed taking his children to visit Gettysburg, where he was one of the best tour guides. He also loved all animals, especially his dog, Lucy, as well as watching and feeding the birds in his yard. Fishing was one of his favorite pastimes, and above all, he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. His games of croquet with his grandkids will never be forgotten. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jayne (Albert Keith) Szirmae of White Oak, Jim (Cindy) Spate of McKeesport, Jon (Susan) Spate of Rostraver Twp. and Judy (Chester) Berg of Elizabeth Boro.; grandchildren, Adam, Nick, Jody, Jenny, Sandor, Jake, Andrew, Mitchell, Zac and Kendrick; nine great-grandchildren; brother, David (Vicki) Spate of Missouri; special brother-in-law Edward Toperzer; sister-in-law, Nina (Symington) Howard; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. John "Bob" Tharp

John Robert “Bob” Tharp, age 79, passed away at home surrounded by his family on July 25, 2016.  Born December 27, 1936 in Waynesburg, he was the son of the late Abner and Mildred (Tustin) Tharp and the beloved husband of 44 years to Carol (Kaiser) Tharp.  Bob graduated from Waynesburg High School in 1956.  He went on to work as a Radiologic Technician at Greene County Memorial Hospital, McKeesport Hospital, Homestead Hospital, and retired from Jefferson Regional Medical Center.  He served in the Army Reserves for 9 years and was an active member of Evangelical Congregational Church (McKeesport) and their ARFOM Class Organization.  His other memberships included Masonic Youghiogheny Lodge #583, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Al-O-Mon Forest #138, and the Mon Yough Church Dartball League.  He volunteered for McKeesport Meals on Wheels and enjoyed gardening, dartball, and taking care of his grandchildren.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Brian (Stacey) Tharp, or Monroeville; triplet grandchildren, Benjamin, Holden, and Kylen; brother, Charles Raymond Tharp, of Waynesburg; sisters, Erma Jean Carroll, of Belle Vernon, Martha Grim, of Windridge, Sarah (Orville) King, of Waynesburg and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his brother Barton at six years of age.  Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. and on Thursday, July 28, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.  The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 28, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Congregational Church in McKeesport.  Rev.
