Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Duquesne. She was the wife of the late George Yarosik; mother of Marlene (George) Prosnik, of Springfield, VA, Donna (Charles) Dyer, of Tucson, AZ, Patricia Anderson, of Arlington, VA, Mary Louise Yarosik, of Monroeville, and Janet Yarosik, of North Carolina; sister of Joseph Cibula, of West Mifflin, Rosella Lofe, of Georgia, Gertrude Krohe, of Illinois, and the late Lawrence Cibula, the late Andrew Cibula, Jr., and the late Dolores Hast; also six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Beloved wife of Bernard J. Runge for 65 years; mother of Wilma (Edward) Krien, of White Oak, Robert Runge, of West Mifflin, and LouAnn (Robert) Kraus, of Warrenton, VA; grandmother of Shanna Krien, Brandon Krien, Keith (Jen) Kraus, and Courtney Kraus; great-grandmother of Collin Krien.

She was predeceased by brothers, William Boyer, Raymond Boyer, and Sylvester “Red” Boyer. Madeline V. Belback

Age 96, of Duquesne and former resident of McKeesport, died on September 7, 2017, in St. Anne's Nursing Home, Greensburg, PA. She was born on January 9, 1921, in McKeesport to Michael and Virginia (Coulter) Kushner and was the oldest of five children. On October 26, 1946, she married Stanley Belback. Together they were loving parents of four sons and three daughters. Madeline was an active member at St. Joseph Church, Duquesne where she belonged to the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and Guild, and was a Third Order Carmelite in the "Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Chapter" for 36 years. She also belonged to Our Lady's Rosary Makers, was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, and a volunteer at John J. Kane Hospital for 13 years at the Scott Twp. and McKeesport centers. She was a former Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) teacher of religion, and a teacher for Catholic Awards for Girl Scouts of Catholic Faith. She also served on the Home Mass Committee for shut-ins. She is survived by her children, Stanley (Theresa) Belback, Lanexa, VA, Marlene (Stephen) Smith, North Huntingdon, PA, Anita (John) King, Mineral, VA, Regis (Marianne) Belback, Steubenville, OH, John (Valerie) Belback, West Mifflin, PA, Virginia Belback, Williamsville, NY, Joseph (Robin) Belback, North Huntingdon, PA; 13 grandchildren and one step- grandchild; 16 great- grandchildren; sister, Catherine Crovak, Greensburg, PA; and many nieces and nephews. Madeline was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley "Stush" Belback; parents, Michael and Virginia (Coulter) Kushner; brother, Michael S. Kushner; sisters, Virginia (Ernest) Williams, and Rita (Walter) Belback. Madeline was a woman of great Faith who had an abundance of love for her husband, children, family, and friends with sincere caring and compassion for others. We'll all miss her! Kathy Tomas, 86, of Lenexa, KS, formerly of Duquesne, PA, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2017, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Zaborsko Selo, Croatia, to Mijo and Jela Smenderovac. In 1955, she married her late husband Michael and they had two children before the family immigrated to the United States and settled in Duquesne in 1973. After her husband passed, Kathy moved to Lenexa to stay with her daughter who compassionately cared for her to the end. She was retired from Riverview Center-Jewish Senior Assisted Living Center - Pittsburgh, PA, where she worked as a seamstress for almost 20 years. Kathy loved flowers and enjoyed sewing, needlepointing and gardening. She was a loving, generous and kind person who enjoyed her family and little children. She could light-up a room with a most beautiful smile and, even in her most difficult moments, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren could bring a smile to her face.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and a sister.

 

Kathy is survived by her daughter Mary (Walter) Rendulic; son David (Carla) Tomas; grandchildren Adam and Maria Tomas and Monica (Carlos) Bello; great-grandchildren Julian and Adrian Bello; brother-in-law John (Josephine) Baic; sister-in-law Marica (late Drago) Spudic; and the late Josip (Micika) Tomas and nieces and nephews.

 

The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Holt and the St. Luke’s Hospice staff of Kansas City for their exceptional care, compassion and support.

He was retired from the Port Authority as a Bus Driver, Movement Director, and Route Foreman. He proudly served his country in the Army in WWII. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Charlotte (Sabo) Rezes; father of John M. Matilda “Tillie” (Gresko) Frankovich, 94 of West Mifflin, PA.  Born November 9, 1922 and died peacefully at  Family Hospice, Mt. Lebanon, on August 14, 2017.  Wife of the late Ambrose “Slim” Frankovich; mother of Olivia (late Jack) Weichler of South Park; Marietta Castellano (Andrew Elash) of Landrum, SC; and Denise (Harvey) Petras of Forest Hills.  Grandmother to Lindsay Weichler and Adam Petras.  Aunt to many nieces and nephews.   Tillie was retired from the J.C. Penney Co. and had been active in the West Mifflin Annex senior citizens as treasurer, the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and Guild at St. Joseph Church, and the NSOF, Duquesne.  Most recently, she lived at Juniper Village of Forest Hills.  Tillie will be remembered as a strong yet sweet, social, and classy lady who was kind at heart and easy going in her golden years.  She was loved and will be missed by many.  Visitation will be August 17, 2017 from 3-8 pm at Maloy-Schleifer Funeral Home, 915 Kennedy Ave., Duquesne PA.  Blessing service at 9:30 at funeral home followed by mass of Christian burial at 10 am, August 18, 2017, St. Joseph Church, Duquesne, PA.  Memorial contributions can be made to Family Hospice, Mt. MICHAEL R. JAKUB
WWII veteran, 1945, serving in Okinawa, as a Corporal in the 1st Marine Division 5th Regt. 2nd Battalion. Michael was born on April 23, 1926, in Duquesne and lived his entire life there. He passed away Thursday evening August 10, 2017, from complications of a tragic vehicle crash. He is survived by Ben G., his best buddy of one year; his son, Gery and his wife, Virginia (Donaldson) Jakub. He was predeceased by his wife, Genevieve “Ginny” of 65 years of marriage; son, Ramon (survived by his wife, Donna) Jakub; grandson, Gery (survived by his wife, Heather) Jakub, Jr.; also surviving are Mikey’s brothers and sisters, Frank, William, Albert, Florence Jakub, and Dolores Mewkalo; predeceased by brothers, Edward Jakub, Andrew Jakub, and John Jakub. He is survived by his grandchildren, Megan, Katie, Adam, Erica, Melissa, and Holly; and great-grandchildren, Sarah, Kendell, Tyler, Melanya, Max, and Jenna. He was an electrician for Continetal Can Coporation. When the plant closed down in the ‘80s he turned off the lights. He continued working until he retired at the age of 89. He serviced the city of Duquesne as well as churches, bars, funeral homes, and residents, in and about Duquesne. He had many extended children whom he treated like his own, Marci, Bob, Sharon, Greg, Bernard, Duane, Terry, and Doug. He will be missed by many and was loved by all. He loved his antique Corvair and his SS454 truck and he never owned a computer. His loving wife, Genevieve was waiting for him at the gates. Visitation is on Saturday from 1-9 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. -9 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m.-9:30 a.m. at which time a Blessing Service will be held at the MALOY-SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME, 915 Kennedy Ave., Duquesne, 412-466-3300. Followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Hedwig Church of Christ the Light of the World Parish at 10 a.m., where he was an usher. Jean Frances Osborne, 86, formerly of West Mifflin and Laughlintown, died Thursday, July 20, 2017. She was born Nov. 9, 1930, daughter of the late Katherine Marie (Kilger) Anastasiu and Merle Dwight Osborne, and stepdaughter of the late George "Pop" Anastasiu. She was predeceased by brothers, Harry Osborne, and George and Melvin Anastasiu; her sister, Lois Johnston; a grandson, Justin Bruce Chervenak; a stepgrandson, Bill Prettiman; and a godchild, Mike Speney. She was the former wife of the late George Chervenak; and widow of Matthew Wargovich, of Laughlintown. She is survived by her three loving children, Bruce (Roxanne) Chervenak, Brad John Chervenak, and Jean Marie (John) Fecho; grandchildren, Beth Ann (Eric) Gumbert, and Aleda Marie Fecho; stepchildren, Maria, Patti and Theresa, and their spouses. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Loretta Osborne and Kathleen Anastasiu; nephew, Eric (Geri) Osborne; nieces, Kathleen Osborne (Richard) Bednarz and Chris Chervenak, of West Mifflin, and Jean's dear godchild, Karen Bisi. In her younger years, she loved to cook, sew, bake and paint. She also worked as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone for 19 years, and more recently, as a funeral home receptionist and hostess. She was a proud member of McKeesport High School Class of 1948. Her Catholic faith sustained her and brought her joy.

Of West Mifflin died Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital. He was born in Duquesne on November 11, 1936, son of the late John R. and Margaret (Hrizo) Jakubovics, Sr. He was the beloved husband of Anita (Bianconi) Jakubovics for over 56 years; he was a parishioner of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church of McKeesport. He retired from the West Mifflin Boro Police Department after 28 years. He served in the US Army stationed in Ft. Belvoir, VA. He was a member of the FOP Lodge #91 and the Croation Club Lodge #146 Men's Group of Versailles and Leo's Service Center Coffee Club. He was an avid sports fan of the Steelers, Penguins and the Pirates. He loved spending time with his late brothers at their property at Indian Head. He was predeceased by his parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Esterina and Vitaliano Bianconi; his brothers, late Edward W. Jakubovic; survived by sister, Marjorie (late John) Moritz of South Park and Dolores Bartko of Donora; and brother, Ernest (Carol) Jakubovic of Valencia; brother-in-law of John (late Matilda) Gelzhiser, Louise (late Albert) Shimkus, Ralphena (Carl) Kastan and John (Janet) Bianconi; his loving and extended family, Mark, Lisa, Shelby (Josh) and Jacob (Thea) Tkach, whose love and support meant so much to him; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews; and close friends for many years, Bill and Nancy Klasnic and their family.
