Eloise Elaine Felgar Kearns, 90, formerly of West Mifflin, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Born in Monessen on February 15, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Hazel Crise Felgar. Eloise was the wife of the late Robert Kearns. She is survived by her four daughters, Margaret K. (Richard deceased) Scanlon, of Oakdale, Patricia L. Kearns, of North Huntingdon, Robin L. (Thomas) Werkmeister, of Baldwin and Lorraine L. Moran of Whitehall. She was the loving grandmother of five beautiful grandchildren, Christina Scanlon, of Chicago, Tamara Scanlon, of Dormont, Shannon (Michael) Collura, of Baldwin, Thomas R. (Yujie) Werkmeister of Cambridge, MA and Jennifer Moran, of Arlington, VA. She adored her two great grandchildren, Calliope and Atlas Collura. After graduating from Monessen High School, Eloise attended The Robert Morris School, completing the course of study in the applied business and secretarial division. She later completed an Associate and Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Robert Morris College, both Suma Cum Laude. Eloise was a financial analyst at Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory for over 25 years. Eloise was a member of the West Mifflin Community Baptist Church for 50 years where she taught Sunday School and played the organ. She also served as an organist for several local churches over the years. Family and friends will be received on Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 4 – 8 P.M. at I.M FINNEY FUNERAL HOME, 203 4th St, Dravosburg, PA 15034. Dolores Marie Smith

Dolores Marie Uphouse Smith, 89, of Finleyville, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Jefferson Hospital. She was born in Somerset on April 11, 1934, as the only child to the late Hiron and Mae Sleasman Uphouse. She was married on March 19, 1954, to the love of her life, Paul Smith, who survives her. Dolores and Paul were baptized as one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses on August 9, 1959. They have both faithfully served their God for 64 years. Dolores was known for her amazing ability to cook and bake. She was generous to all that she knew, and she loyally supported her husband throughout their 69 years of marriage. Richard Alan Rodgers, 84, of Liberty Boro, left the arms of his loving wife into the loving arms of Jesus on Friday, October 13, 2023, at his home, leaving behind his loving wife of 30 years, Beverly Weaver Yandrlic Rodgers. Alan was born in McKeesport, PA on September 25, 1939, to the late Portia Hartmeyer Rodgers and Eugene Rodgers. He leaves behind a family that he truly loved, and in turn, they loved and respected him, which includes; daughters Sheri Campbell of Liberty Boro and Becky (Carl) Nelson of Gibsonia. Missing their awesome Pap are grandsons, Ryan Intrieri, Tyal (Daphne) Prince, Brendan Finney, and granddaughter Casey Campbell, and great-grandson Cayson Prince. Alan also leaves a daughter, Lori (Tony) Rodgers of Columbus, OH, Richard Alan (Terri) Rodgers II, of North Versailles, and Eric (Jessica) Rodgers, granddaughter Erica Rodgers, grandson Richard Alan Rodgers III, brothers Robert Rodgers of Vandergrift and Edgar Rodgers of McKeesport and many nieces and nephews. Alan was the type of man who always had a big smile for everyone he met, and he loved to talk to anyone about anything. You felt like he was your best friend after only meeting him once. He was so loving and kind, yet always so much fun. He truly enjoyed his life and family. Alan was a graduate of McKeesport Tech High School and served in the United States Air Force in Alaska before it was even a state. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and held numerous positions in the Jaycees which included State Representative. Alan was retired from TCI Trucking Co., which he loved driving for. He traveled through all fifty states more than once, including Alaska and Hawaii, Hawaii was his favorite. Alan was also an avid fisherman in his younger years and loved working in their flower gardens, ponds, playing games, and having Hawaiian parties. He also attended Park Baptist Church. Margaret M. Elkanic Mendicino, 102, of North Versailles, formerly of Glassport, passed away on Wednesday, October 4th, 2023 at UPMC East. She was born in Glassport on August 9th, 1921 to the late George and Mary Hyduk Elkanic. Margaret was the loving wife of 68 years to the late Albert Mendicino. She is survived by her daughters Monica (Richard) Semanisin of North Versailles, and Nadine (Dave) Erdody of Vero Beach, FL, her sister Helen Dragos of Greenock, granddaughter Gwendolyn Brown (William Duck, Jr.) of Wilkins township, great-grandson Joseph Brown of Port St Lucie, FL, as well as nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents George and Mary Elkanic, husband Albert Mendicino, her brother Andrew (Helen) Elkanic and her sister Ann (Edward) Mihoces, and her beloved cat Gordon. She was a member of the Queen of the Rosary. Margaret worked as a timekeeper for U.S. Steel. She enjoyed getting strikes in bowling and shopping for clothes, she also enjoyed playing the slots at the casino and being the best dancer on the dance floor. Jay Cameron Trainer, 60, of Jefferson Hills, died Friday, Sept. 29th, 2023, at the Asbury Heights Nursing Facility in Mt. Lebanon. He was born at McKeesport Hospital on May 14, 1963, to Charlotte (Cameron) Trainer and the late John William Trainer Sr. He is survived by his mother, Charlotte, of Jefferson Hills; two sisters, Cynthia Wyne of South Park, and Genevieve Rae of Jefferson Hills; two brothers, John William Trainer Jr. of Carroll Township, and Timothy R. Trainer of South Park; and many nieces and nephews.

Jay graduated from St. Elizabeth High School in Pleasant Hills and earned a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from Point Park University in Pittsburgh. Jay liked to fish, watch sports, and read science fiction and fantasy stories. He was particularly knowledgeable regarding Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and the history of Middle Earth. Jay loved the Penguins, Steelers, and Pirates; participated in fantasy football leagues; and enjoyed spending time with family, especially his nieces and nephews.

Lois Lorraine Gasky 95 of Port Vue, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023. She was born in McKeesport, on February 13th, 1928 to the late Russell Joseph and Eleanor Rose (Haddie) Gardner. She was preceded in death by her husband Gustave Gasky, her brother Edgar Adams of McKeesport, her sister Ruth Woods of Florida and her grandson Rickey Ingram of Elizabeth. Lois is survived by her son Dean (Brenda) Gasky of Port Vue, and daughter Lynn Roberts of DeBary Florida, she leaves behind 8 grandchildren, Russ (Aimee) Gasky of Finley Ohio, Tom Gasky of Dravosburg, Becky Campano of Lincoln, Amy (Pat) Fonner of Liberty, Amanda Reynolds of Mississippi, Daniel (Ellissa) Bathe of Fairfield Ohio, Brian (Leah) Bathe of Lebanon Ohio, and Shonna (Shaun) Wilkerson of Quilcene Washington, 18 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Lois Was a housewife who had over 40 years volunteering at McKeesport Hospital which she loved. Her family was very proud of her service. She enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steeler Games and often cooked for the games. She also loved to travel and would never turn down an outing of any kind. She was an avid walker which she would walk 5 miles a day. Lois would always stop and say hello to everyone and tell us everywhere she walked and who she would see along the way. Lois was also an avid reader and made us laugh quite often. Her beautiful life will live on in the funny stories that will be told for many years and she will be missed dearly. Patricia was the loving wife of 59 years to William A. McSurdy. In addition to her husband, Patricia is survived by her daughters Cheryl McSurdy of Jefferson Hills, Carole McSurdy of White Oak, Tammi (Dennis) Kirby of Indiana PA, and Linda (Michael) Stouffer of Cooperstown, her sister Rita Payton of Fairport NY, her brother Bernard Glos of Jefferson Hills, grandchildren Erin, Timothy, Daniel, Katie, Victoria, Jamie, and Julie as well as many nieces and nephews. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents. She was a member of the St. Paulinus Church. Patricia enjoyed taking care of flowers and had an affinity for crochet. Check and Rhonda Maust Armstrong. Mari was the loving partner of 17 years to Stephen Burey. She is survived by her father Joseph A. Check, of Charleroi, mother Rhonda Armstrong, of McKeesport, partner Stephen Burey, daughters Paige Wasko, of McKeesport, Emmy Lou Burey, of McKeesport, sister Tamie (Mark) Panza, of Charleroi, many nieces and nephews, many dear friends and loyal dog Dixie. Mari was preceded in death by sisters Tracy Check, Autumn Marie Bentley, and brother Todd Bentley. She was a member of the Judah Ministries in McKeesport, and the Teamsters #205 of White Oak. She enjoyed spending time with her children, and family. She also loved the outdoors and the many activities that came with it like hiking, camping, visiting different waterfalls and simply just enjoying nature. Valerie Kanyak Gallagher, 67, of Dravosburg, PA, passed away Thursday, August 24th, 2023. She was born in McKeesport on January 1st, 1956, to the late Peter and Isabel Shoaf Kanyak. Valerie was loved by many. She is survived by the loves of her life, her two daughters, April Cislo Banks, of West Mifflin, and Amber (Josh) Saunders, of Irwin, and her step-son, Ryan Gallagher, of West Mifflin. She was affectionately referred to as “Nana” by her three grandchildren, Baylee Banks, Joshua Saunders, and Adalynn Saunders. She is also survived by her husband, Richard Gallagher, of West Mifflin, and her very best friend, Mary Eversole, of White Oak, as well as many nieces and nephews. Valerie was greeted in Heaven by her parents, Peter and Isabel (Shoaf) Kanyak, her brother, Stephen Kanyak, and her two sisters, who doubled as her best friends, Janice Kanyak and Lori Falchetti.  Valerie had so many friends and family who loved her. Val loved to be a grandmother, a mother, and a friend to all. Valerie was exceptional at her job of being a caretaker, and she also left behind many clients whom she loved as her own. She was a member of the American Legion #380 in Dravosburg as well as the Dravosburg United Methodist Church and the Dravosburg Volunteer Fire Company, and also worked as a waitress at Denny’s in West Mifflin. She leaves behind the memory of her laugh and beautiful smile. Andrew Alan Jenkins, 75, of Dravosburg, formerly of Duquesne, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Jefferson Hospital. He was born at Monessen Hospital on August 17, 1948, to the late William and Virginia Arnold Jenkins. He is survived by his life partner, Cheryl Dupak of Dravosburg, son Andrew W. Jenkins, of Lincoln Place, brother William (Sandy) Jenkins, or Irwin, and many nieces and nephews. Andrew was preceded in death by his first wife Donna Coberly, brother James Jenkins, and sister Pricilla Miranda. He worked as a Tool and Die maker for Fisher Body in West Mifflin for 40 years and was a member of the Auto Workers Union, the American Legion in Dravosburg as well as Port Vue, and served in the National Guard. Andrew was an excellent pool player and used to own the A.W. Pool Hall in McKeesport in the 1960s, was an amazing pencil drawing portrait artist, an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, loved singing and had an excellent voice, and was actively engaged with social media. William Jacobs

William Elias Jacobs

William Jacobs, 100 years old of Boca Raton, formerly of Jefferson Hills/Clairton passed away on August 11, 2023. He was born in McKeesport Hospital on March 12, 1923, to Jacob Mike Jacobs and Naffa Audi Jacobs (immigrants from Lebanon). William (Jake) has rejoined his beloved wife, Dolores Richel Jacobs (she was one of 10 siblings).

William (Jake) was preceded in death by six sisters and brothers (Manira, Nazara, Annie, Evelyn, Michael & George).

He is survived by his three children, Linda Costolo, William Jacobs & Dennis Jacobs. Margaret George, 99 years old from Lebanon, KY is his only surviving sibling. William has a plethora of grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Florida and Texas. William also has a slew of nieces and nephews located all over the world.

William (Jake) graduated Clairton High School to go into the Army for the Second World War. He is a WWII veteran and has been awarded the Purple Heart. Michael Jacobs and George Jacobs, his brothers, were also veterans of WWII and the Korean War respectively.

William retired from US Steel (Clairton Works) after about 35 years. He was an avid gardener, producing grapes, various fruits, vegetables, walnuts, and blackberries on his property. Above all, William loved his family members, of which there are many. William was a quiet man, living by the saying “Talk only when it is an improvement to the silence”. He will be missed by all that knew him. His journey continues!

She was born in Mifflin Township on February 27, 1941 to the late Elmer and Catherine Reid Wilson. She is survived by her son, Michael Froman, of Florida, grandchildren Gregory and Brian Froman, of Florida as well as nieces, nephews and friends. She worked as a cook for many years at the Skyview Restaurant & Lounge, which was located in West Mifflin. He was born in Morgantown, West Virginia on July 8, 1977 to the late Kenneth Gouker and the surviving Deborah (Boyd Gouker) Gecan. He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Beth Boyles Gouker, mother Deborah (Boyd Gouker) Gecan, step-father Dale Gecan, children Jacob and Emma Gouker of Glassport, brother Brian Gouker, of South Carolina, niece Kayla Gouker, of South Carolina, aunt Beverly Gouker, of Elizabeth, uncle Harold Gouker, of Elizabeth, in-laws James and Glenna Boyles, of Indianapolis, Indiana, best friend and adopted brother, Chadd Augustine, of West Mifflin, and his loving cats, Bear, Shadow, Dexter and Cash. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Gouker, and grandmother Margaret Boyd. Robert J. Lash, 75 of Jefferson Hills passed away on Saturday, July 8th, 2023 at Jefferson Hills Healthcare and Rehabilitation. He was born in Pittsburgh on October 21st, 1947 to the late Robert Lash and Susan Pollick. He is survived by his godchild Melissa Costa D’Souza, many cousins, and family members. He liked to live life alone, but when in social settings, he was full of life. He was a prolific writer and author. He had the uncanny ability to discern your interests and engage you in lively and spirited discussions in just about any topic. He was a product of his generation in many ways, but larger than life when it came to literary pursuits. To truly gain an appreciation of his life read one of his published short stories.
