Carol Ann Wills, 76, of North Versailles passed away Monday, August 12, 2024. She was born October 9, 1947 in Mount Pleasant, and was the daughter of the late Earl "Squirrel" and Thelma (Glaser) Jourdain. She retired in 2011 as a Customer Service Representative with CVS Pharmacy. She was a Social Member of the VFW Post #8430 in East McKeesport, as well as a member of the Buena Vista Ladies Auxiliary. She loved Bingo, playing cards, Dominos, and Mexican Train. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Walter L. Rook, 88, of Elizabeth Township, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 22, 1935 in Scotthaven and was the son of the late Walter and Mary Ann (Quintrell) Rook. He was the husband of 64 years to the late Sandra Jean "Sandy" (Hails) Rook, who passed away January 31, 2020. Walter was a graduate of McKeesport High School and went on to work at Firth Sterling Steel Co. before becoming a Police Officer for Elizabeth Township Police Department for 27 years and retiring as a Sergeant. Upon retirement from the Police Department, he worked part time as a starter for Butler's Golf Course. Walter was a long standing member of The Tall Cedars of Lebanon and was also a 32nd Degree Mason. He enjoyed spending time with his family, going to "Men's" Clubs almost everyday and going to his hunting camp. When he stopped hunting, he enjoyed riding ATVs in the woods with his kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Walter enjoyed spending many winters with his wife, in Florida, they also had a timeshare in Hilton Head for many years, where they enjoyed spending time. He also enjoyed golfing and was an avid Steelers fan. He will be greatly missed.

Richard Michael "Rico" Sostaric, 73, of McKeesport, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2024. He was born in McKeesport on October 9, 1950 and was the son of the late Andrew John and Marie (Dorazio) Sostaric. Rico worked in Maintenance for many years at US Steel - Clairton. He was a member of the PNA bowling leagues, as well as a softball player for numerous leagues through the years in McKeesport, and he played Bass Guitar for the Polka band, the Peppermint Stix for many years.

Annette Helen Czapor, 100, of White Oak, passed away Friday, August 9, 2024. She was born August 3, 1924 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late Martin and Sally F. (Kaminski) Novitski. She was the wife of the late Edward P. Czapor, who passed away February 4, 1959. She was a longtime member of Mary, Mother of God Parish, where she attended the Corpus Christi site, formerly St. Mary Czestochowa Parish and was an avid member of The Christian Mothers group there. Annette was a beautician, and had two salons in the White Oak area, as well as in her home. Annette was an excellent cook and baker, who was known for her delicious soups and ice cream cake. She loved her family and hosting sleepovers with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

Garrett Clyde Kynor, Sr., 77, of Versailles passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 8, 2024. He was born in McKeesport on April 30, 1947 and was the son of the late Thomas A.P. and Laura Jane (Fultz) Kynor. Garrett was proprietor of Kynor's Corner in Versailles. He began his working career at age 13 at a butcher shop in McKeesport, became a bricklayer by trade and then started Garrett Construction Company. In addition to Kynor's Corner, he was also proprietor of the former Olympic Lounge, and the former Christy Inn. He was a member of Polaris Lodge 375 F & AM., was former president of the Olympia Shopping Center Association, and served on Council in Versailles Borough. Over the years through Bike Runs and Jamborees, Garrett raised money for Children's Hospital and MS. He also organized many softball teams.

On the evening of August 2nd, 2024, Richard Johann Strauss Del Signore passed away peacefully at the age of 97. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Anthony, and his parents, Mary (Hadelovich from Blaine Hill) Del Signore, and Antonio Del Signore. He is survived by his youngest brother Ramon, four first cousins, eight nieces and nephews, and much extended family.
Richard was born on December 17, 1926, in McKeesport PA, and grew up in the Grandview area. His immediate family consisted of four brothers and their parents. His father Antonio Del Signore, who immigrated from Abruzzi, Italy, died in 1933 as the result of an accident at the Penn McKee Hotel in McKeesport, where he was employed as a chef. His tragic death at the height of the Great Depression left the four boys and their mother on their own, but not penniless. Antonio’s foresight to have life insurance allowed the young family to keep their home and move forward. Richard and his three brothers worked hard along with their mother, to make ends meet and keep the family together as they went through school and attended church at McKeesport’s First Methodist Church.

Patrick James Bowen, 67, of North Huntingdon passed away Monday, August 5, 2024. He was born in Greensburg on April 4, 1958 and was the son of the late Charles Francis and Nancy (Gibson) Bowen. Patrick was a very talented handyman - he could just about fix anything that was given to him. He worked many years as a Handyman for Pittsburghers. He is survived by his brothers, Timothy O. Bowen of North Huntingdon, and Michael G. Bowen of Menasha, WI; as well as his sister, Beth Ann (Dave) Barkley of Clymer PA; and many nieces and nephews. Teresa Aniceta “Ann” Yester, 93, of McCandless, formerly of Allison Park and Sharpsburg, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2024. She was born February 25, 1931 in Vestaburg and was the daughter of the late John “Jack” and Helen (Breen) Skehan. She was the wife of the late Paul R. Yester, Sr., who passed away April 29, 1975. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church and sang in the church choir there. Teresa was a volunteer at Kane Regional Center and the Vincentian Nursing Home.

Robert William Meredith, 86, of White Oak, passed away on Thursday August 1, 2024. He was born on April 21, 1938 in Uniontown and was the son of the late Harry B. and Emily Mae (Christopher) Meredith. Robert graduated from McKeesport High School in 1956 and went on to receive a Bachelor's degree from Slippery Rock University and a Master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. After college, he returned to his alma mater to teach biology for 2 years, before becoming the Principal of Frances McClure Junior High. He also served as the Principal of McKeesport High School. He loved all of his students and would always express "Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger." He was also a Free Mason at the Polaris Lodge No. 375, and a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon.

Stanley Lichtenstein, 91, of White Oak, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 1, 2024. He was born February 5, 1933 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Sam and Sadye (Friedman) Lichtenstein. He was the husband of the late Helen (Kestenbaum) Lichtenstein who passed away March 21, 2018. They were married for 67 years. Stanley was a member of Gemilas Chesed Congregation and was a US Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. For his service he received the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was Executive Vice-President of their family Corporation, Lico, Inc.

It is with great sadness that the family of Arlene J. Clawson-Dodds, 69, of Greenock, formerly of Clairton, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at home. Arlene was born September 25, 1954 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late Joshua J. Smith, Jr. and the late Margaret (Warhol) Smith. She was the wife of the late Robert J. "Bob" Dodds, who passed away March 26, 2008. Arlene graduated from Clairton High School in 1972 and would retire after 36.5 years of service working as a caseworker for The PA Department of Welfare in 2009. Then she helped cook meals for The Sisters of the Divine Redeemer-Motherhouse for 10 years, before retiring for good in 2020. Arlene was the sweetest and kindest person, and she never had a bad word to say about anyone. She loved her family so much, especially being "boo" to her young granddaughters, Alana and Chloe. She lived every day for her family and we are all better people because she was such an important person in our lives. She will be greatly missed, but the many beautiful memories we have of her will remain forever.

Florence Lee Stirbis, 84, of Elizabeth Township, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2024. She was born April 5, 1940 in Pricedale and was the daughter of the late William and Lucinda "Lula" Rainey. She was the wife of the late James Edward Stirbis who passed away January 11, 2018. Florence was a member of the First Church of God in West Newton and Eastern Star in Scottdale. She was a retired Business Agent for SEIU Local 585, as well as a school bus driver for Elizabeth Forward ISD. She is survived by her son, Clark E. Sterner of Houston, TX., and nieces. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Lou Rainey. There is no visitation. Memorial Service will be held at the First Church of God, West Newton, on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at 10:30 am. Edgar Danks McCandless, 97, of White Oak, passed away Tuesday July 23, 2024. He was born May 17, 1927 in Charleston, West Virginia, and was the son of the late Edgar and Elizabeth (Danks) McCandless. Edgar was a US Army Veteran, serving at the end of World War 2. After his service he graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor's degree. He was a manager for GC Murphy Company in the home office and warehouse, where he oversaw four distribution centers. He enjoyed golfing, boating, water skiing and going on cruises.
