Philip Stewart Slaugh, on May 1, 2020, age 88, son of the late William Edward and Pearl Schiffer Slaugh, brother of the late Lawrence Andrew Slaugh. Survived by wife Carolyn Ferguson Slaugh and son Donald William Slaugh. Philip was a graduate of what is now Carnegie Mellon University with three degrees in music and education. A retired music teacher with the West Mifflin Area School District, he was a member and past president of the Pittsburgh Musicians Union. Phil played string bass with the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Ballet Orchestra, and many church and community concerts, especially the McKeesport Symphony. Due to the pandemic there will be no visitation, and private burial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Pennsylvania Chapter, P.O. “Betty” Elizabeth Erwin Langan of McKeesport, 90, died on March 16, 2020. The daughter of Shelby Erwin and Beatrice Cohoon Erwin. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James “Jim” Langan, brother Frank Erwin and sister in-law Margret Erwin of Dallas, TX, brother and sister in law Thomas Langan and Lois Langan of McKeesport, brother and sister in law Bob and Mary Berquist of Detroit MI.
She is survived by sons, Jim (Mikel Lynn) of Johnstown and Patrick Langan of McKeesport, nephews Dave Erwin and Mark Erwin of Austin TX, Jeff (Terry) Erwin of Fort Worth Texas and their children, Erin Erwin of Chicago, Curtis Erwin of Denver Colorado, Thomas (Stephanie) Erwin of Dallas and their children Gabriel and Samantha, Cindy (Ian) Larsen of Dallas, Texas, Bob (Maureen) Berquist of Mulberry, Florida, Carl (Bobbie) Berquist of Vienna, VA, Nora (Matty) Moroun of Gross Point Shores, Donald (Kathy) Berquist of Troy, Michigan, Jimmy (Cathy) Berquist of Gross Pointe Farms, Michigan and many nieces and nephews.
She graduated 4th in her class of 735 people from McKeesport High School and received her teaching degree from Indiana State Teachers college (now IUP) going on to receive a master’s degree in education from Penn State. She taught first, second, and fourth grade at Mifflin School in Pittsburgh for 13 years then retired to raise two children. She worked as a lifeguard at the McKeesport YMCA where she rescued a man by using CPR and received a Christmas card from him for the rest of his life.
Never one to stay still she took a course in computers when PCs first became popular and turned it into a second career.
She taught for 15 years at CCAC South Campus, working in the computer lab and educating students in Intro to Computers. She further developed a Page Maker course writing the curriculum and a book for the course. She enjoyed teaching, flea markets, estate sales, collecting Depression glass and Ethan Allen Furniture, mystery books, and Downton Abbey.

Claire R. Iszauk, 90, of McKeesport, died Friday, December 20, 2019 at UPMC Canterbury Place. Born in the Bronx, NY, October 14, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Max and Ethel Weintraub Gland. Co-owner of the former David’s of White Oak, she served as secretary for the Congregation Gemilas Chesed and Temple B’nai Israel. Wife of the late David S. Iszauk, sister of the late Arlene Elias, she is survived by son Alan L. (Debbie) Iszauk of Monroeville, granddaughter Jenna Iszauk of Cleveland, OH, sister Rosalie (Morton) Opall of Uniontown, brother in law Sherman Elias and sister in law Sondra (Joe) Mendlowitz, also nieces and nephews. Katherine “Kay” Margaret (Fien) Redinger, 96, formerly of Glassport, Pa, died Sunday, September 8, 2019, at McKeesport Hospital where she was born on August 21, 1923.
Daughter of the late Wojciech (Adalbert) Fien and Helen (Karnas) Fien, and wife of the late Anton Lawrence Redinger.
Katherine is survived by her daughters, Diane Chellevold and Susan (William) Droskey; grandchildren, Tiffany (Chris) Blakely, Jennifer (Michael) Hooper, Blair Droskey, Clark Droskey, Jessica Chellevold; great-grandchildren, Jerimiah Borg and Jamis Borg; sisters Bernice Nevitt and Florence Welesko; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Redinger; brothers, Casimir and John; and sisters Helen, Anna, Sister Mary Liliose (Leona), Sister Mary Edith CSSF (Theresa), Marie, and Dolores.
She was a member of the Queen of the Rosary Parish and Ladies of Charity in Glassport and a graduate of Glassport High School. She was a past employee of Westinghouse Electric Corporation from 1943 to 1948 as a taper, Mica builder and assembler; and worked at the Purdy Dairy and the Pittsburgh Glass Company, Glassport plant as a secretary.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 13, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in Queen of the Rosary Parish, 530 Michigan Avenue, Glassport, with Rev. Miroslaus Wojcicki as celebrant.
Funeral service and interment will be held following mass at 11:30 a.m. in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park, 14679 State Route 30, Irwin, and luncheon to follow.

Joshua Charles (Josh) Boucek, 41 of McKeesport, died Thursday, July 18, 2019. He was the son of John and Elsie Parton Boucek. Josh was a collector with many interests. He was highly creative and a talented artist. He loved animals and nature, and was an avid hiker on the Yough Trail. He worked for the Carnegie Free Library of McKeesport for several years before becoming involved with e commerce. Josh is survived by his mother, sister Julie Kobesky, brother-in-law Daryl and niece Ania, sister Janet Fellows, nieces Liz, Holly and Allie, brother-in-law Chris Fellows, aunts and uncles, and cousins, Linda and Keith Donati, Jess Horenstein, Keith and Tina Parton, Janet and Chuck Waugaman, Chelsea and Gretchen, Jeff and Kathy Boucek, Katie and Johnathan, and many extended family members. William J. Smith, 80, of North Versailles, died Monday, December 31, 2018 at UPMC McKeesport. Born June 13, 1938, he was the son of the late William J. and Irene Craven Smith. Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army and was a retired manager of the Goldbug Convenience Store.
