Earl L. May

Earl Layton May, 84, of Irwin, passed away April 16, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Johnstown, PA, on August 11, 1936, son of the late William and Beulah May.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, June (Wampler) May; children, Timothy May and his wife, Laurene, Wendy (May) Miller and her husband, Ron, Eric May and his wife, Lisa. 

Also survived by sister, Darlene Felus, daughter-in-law, Penny May; and son-in-law, Ray Crowell; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Quentin May and Rebecca (May) Crowell; sister, LaRue Wilt. 

Earl graduated from Gallitzen High School in 1954, achieved a perfect SAT score, then went off to Pitt to earn his Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering in 1959.  He was a certified Professional Engineer.  After graduation, Earl worked for Lee C. Moore Corp., American St. Gabain Glass, then began a 35 year career with PPG in the Glass Research Division.  He was a graduate of PPG's School of Glass Technology.  At PPG, Earl was a constant source of new ideas that made a significant difference in advancing the technology of glass forming. He was awarded 14 design patents. 

A faithful and devout Christian his whole life, Earl served his country and his church.  He was a member of the US Army Reserves and very active member of Brush Creek Lutheran Church.  He was a leader in council, Sunday school and bible study and a member of the choir.  In addition to serving on many committees, he was chairman of the church’s 200th anniversary in 1973, where he and June designed and built a parade float.  He was also treasurer for Thrivent Financial Services.   

Earl liked to watch his grandkids play softball and hang out with them in his pool.  He was always there for family events and anything they needed.  Earl enjoyed hosting family cookouts, keeping his yard, James Bond movies, reading history and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and his evening phone calls to sister, Darlene.  But most of all Earl loved spending time with his best friend, June, whether at home, cruising in his BMW, or out for one of their lunch or dinner dates.

Mary F. Pavlik

Mary F. Pavlik, 89, of North Huntingdon, passed away peacefully in Corry, PA on Thursday, April 15, 2021.  She was born in the Pittsburgh area to Eastern European immigrants, the late Andrew and Verna (Bence) Hritz.  Mary and her late husband, John built their lives in North Huntingdon where they raised their family.  Mary was a devoted wife and mother, teaching her children according to God’s word, instilling in them a love for God and family, the importance of a good education and the value of hard work.  

Mary could be found volunteering at church, and served as Eucharistic Minister for St. Agnes church for many years.  Mary was a member of several ladies’ groups at church, and also took communion to the ill and elderly in the community as well as to residents of local nursing homes.  She is fondly remembered for her Eastern European cheregi pastries that she and her late husband John would make together and deliver in person to friends and family.  Mary never shied away from helping family or friends, and was a wonderful, giving, caring and kind soul.  Her presence will be forever missed by her daughter, two sons and daughter-in-law as well as by countless friends and family.

Mila E. Sacramento

Mila E. Sacramento, age 10, of Irwin passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 17, 2021 after a courageous battle with brain cancer.  Mila was born October 10, 2010 at Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville, beloved daughter of Neal and Dawn (Sommers) Sacramento of Irwin.  Mila is also survived by paternal grandparents, Tony (Pap Pap) and Sharon (Meme) Sacramento of North Huntingdon.  Maternal grandmother, Elizabeth (Nana) Sommers and partner, Richard (Pappy Richie) Tucci of Irwn. 

Mila was a fourth grader at Norwin Hahntown Elementary and a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Irwin.  Mila cherished weekly Target trips with her Nana, cooking lessons with Meme and teasing her Pap Pap on his daily visits.  Mila had a special bond with grandparents on both sides.  

She also treasured her time with cousin, Rocco Sacramento and BFF’s Riley Baker and Faith Pascus.  Mila was an avid Minecraft and Robox gamer.  She was a collector of many things like her Daddy, with her favorite being stuffed animals and LOL dolls.  She loved arts and crafts, reading books, pop music, drive in movies and the zoo.  Mila’s strong will and courage enabled her to battle through three different types of cancer and 15 major surgeries since the age of three.  She was the true definition of a fighter. 

Mila’s beautiful, brave, caring, funny, loving, smart and witty spirit touched everyone that got to know her.  Mila taught us so much about life in her short time with us.  Saying that she will be missed by all that loved her is an understatement especially by her mommy and best friend Dawn. 

Mila’s memory will live on in the hearts of many.  Mila was greatly loved by her many aunts, uncles and cousins.  Maternal aunts and uncles, Debbie Davidow, John (Lori) Playso, Victor (Mary) Playso, Stephen (Shelly) Playso, John Brady; paternal aunts and uncles, Dean (Katie) Sacramento, Anthony (Kate) Sacramento, Lisa (Casey) O’Malley.

Dr. Lawrence L. Lyons, 82, of Hempfield Township died April 14, 2021 at UPMC McKeesport. He was born February 8, 1939 in McKeesport, son of the late George and Anna Margaret (Shoop) Lyons. Dr. Lyons was a member of St. Agnes Church, North Huntingdon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Lyons (Loretta), two sisters, Shirley Lewis (Kenneth) and Barbara Aranos.  He began his career as an Emergency Room physician at UPMC McKeesport and eventually opening his own family practice in White Oak, spanning a career of over 30 years.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Agnes Mens Club and a veteran of the U.S. Marines. Larry enjoyed skiing, golfing and family vacations.

Bertha Montrose, 97, of North Huntingdon, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021 at her home.  She was born July 27, 1923 in McKeesport, daughter of the late Thomas and Angelina Grdanski.  Bertha enjoyed listing to Polka music and sitting on her front porch watching all the wildlife in her yard. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Murray Montrose Sr.; brother, William Grdanski; and son-in-law, Kevin Shea.

Walter R. Wisniewski

Walter R. Wisniewski, 77, of North Huntingdon, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021.  He was born October 27, 1943 in Glassport, a son of the late John and Helen Wisniewski.    Prior to his retirement, Walter was the owner/operator of Electral Tool & Die Co., a consultant with the Shaw Group and a member of St. Agnes Church.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was his grandchildren's #1 sports fan.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Lana Miletti Wisniewski in March 2021. He is survived by  his son, Jason Wisniewski; daughters, Christine Mayersky and her husband, Timothy, and Holly Wisniewski; brother, John Wisniewski; grandchildren, Ava Wisniewski, Justin Mayersky, Brandon Mayersky and Aaron Mayersky.  Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the James W. Eugene Lewis Woods, 92, of North Versailles, formerly of North Huntingdon, passed away Monday, April 5, 2021 at Point Pleasant Retirement Community. He was born April 13, 1928 in Swissvale, a son of the late Roy and Mabel Woods. Prior to his retirement, Eugene was an insurance adjustor for State Farm Insurance and was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Navy. Eugene was a 50 year member at Chartiers297 F. & A.M. Lodge In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Woods, second wife, Sheila Woods; sisters, Bette Hopta, Dorothy Salomon; and brother, Roy V. Woods. James Myers, 84, of Irwin, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2021 at his home.  He was born May 13, 1936 in Jeannette, a son of the late James F. and Lois (Raling) Myers.  Prior to his retirement, Jim was a construction supervisor and a farmer which he did all his life.  He was a veteran of the US Army and was a member of Westmoreland County Farm Bureau.  He is survived by his loving wife, Aileen Altimore Myers; stepsons, Will and Sean Faulkner; brother, Barry Myers and his wife, Wanda; and several nieces and nephews.  Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the James W. Cecelia "Cece" L. Page, age 79 of North Huntingdon passed away March 28, 2021. She was born September 22, 1941 in Meyersdale, Pa.,  daughter of the late Lynn L. "Jack" and Clara Murray Shultz. Cecelia was a member of St. Agnes Church, North Huntingdon.

Prior to her retirement she was employed as a secretary for the Norwin High School Guidance Department with over 20 years of service. She loved working with the students and cherished her time with the guidance crew. Cece enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting, orchestra and Norwin Band events. She was a member of the card club of Roberta Drive, and was an avid Pirates and Steelers fan.

G. Scott McIntosh, 73, of Jeannette, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2021 at UPMC St. Margaret Hospital. He was born February 6, 1948 in Brownsville, Pa., a son of the late Gilbert and Doreen (Sams) McIntosh. Prior to his retirement, Scott was a self-employed mechanic and enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting skeet and clay pigeons. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed their trips to Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beth (Borgo) McIntosh. He is survived by his son, Scott McIntosh; daughter, Cristle Lobaugh and her husband, Gary; sister, Bonnie (Charles) Davenport; and grandson, Jack. Patti G. Churley, age 77 of North Huntingdon died March 27, 2021 at Westmoreland Manor. She was born August 14, 1943 in Braddock, a daughter of the late Walter and Grace Haines Patterson. Patti was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. She enjoyed camping at Virginia's Beach Camp Ground in Erie, reading, lottery tickets and bingo. Van Ryn, 63, of North Huntingdon, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at UPMC McKeesport Hospital.  She was born May 13, 1957 in Homestead, daughter of the late Robert and Gerri (McClintock) Thomas.  Pam was a graduate of Norwin Sr. High School Class of 75 and a member of Norwin Christian Church.  She was the best mom and grandma and loved spending time with her grandchildren.  She enjoyed gardening and loved sunflowers.  She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Robert Van Ryn; daughters, Hanna Burke and her husband, Pat, Marissa Donahoe and her husband, Tom; brothers, Robert D. Thomas Jr. and William Thomas; grandchildren, Logan, Landon, Josephine, Porter and Wyatt.  Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the James W. Walker, 88, of North Huntingdon, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at her home.  She was born January 15, 1933 in McKeesport, a daughter of Raymond W. and Agnes (Wakefield) Harris.  Joan was employed by Norwin Veterinary Hospital and G. C. Murphy Co. Home Office in McKeesport.  She was a member of the New Hope Presbyterian Church, previously Christ United Presbyterian Church, were she was an Elder, Deacon Sunday school teacher and secretary.  She was past president of the Markvue Manor Woman's Club, past president of Friends of the Norwin Public Library Board of Directors, member of the Women of the Moose Irwin Chapter #171, North Huntingdon Civilian Police Academy and AARP #3221 North Huntingdon.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Paul Walker.  She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Stypula and her husband, Steven; sons, Stuart Walker and his wife, Laurel, Timothy Walker and his wife, Alice; grandsons, Bradley (Katie) and Brian Walker, Harrison Stypula, Adam and Benjamin Walker.

Elaine Dunlap Gruber, 79, of North Huntingdon, passed away Monday, March 22, 2021 at her home.  She was born November 17, 1941 in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Dominic and Consetta (Micale) Zugaro.  Prior to her retirement, Elaine was a waitress for Kings Family Restaurant, N. Versailles and enjoyed playing Bingo, visiting casinos and making crafts.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack S. Dunlap, second husband, Daniel C. Gruber; great-grandson, Timothy Gordon; brothers, Ernie and Larry Zugaro; sisters, Anna Marie Gerison and Elizabeth Deak.  She is survived by her son, Jack Dunlap and his wife, Colleen; daughters, Gina Dunlap, Lisa Sinclair and her husband, William, Rhonda Beaufort and her husband, Gary; brother, Angelo Zugaro; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
