Raymond E. Tubbs, age 84, of Duquesne, passed away on November 29, 2021, at UPMC East-Monroeville. Born in East Pittsburgh on February 10, 1937, he was the son of the late Raymond E. and Gertrude (McMullen) Tubbs Sr. Ray was retired from the U.S. Air Force with 21 years of service, was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Duquesne, Teutonia Mannerchor Club in Duquesne, and the Dravosburg American Legion Post #0380. He is the loving husband to Lois J. (Gorscak) Tubbs for 24 years; father of 4 sons; stepfather of Beth (Lou) Chillinsky of Irwin, Robert Burwell II of Frederick, MD and the late Michael Burwell; brother of Gertrude (late Bill) Carter of Florida, Catherine (late Dom) Spinozzi of McKeesport and Dolores Snyder of Bethlehem, PA.; step grandchildren, Robert (Shawna) Chillinsky and Jonathon (Melissa) Chillinsky; 5 step great grandchildren, Roman, Lilyana, Sophia, Luna, and Willow. Dolores A. Savage, age 95, of West Mifflin, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021, at home. Daughter of the late Ben and Mary (Pasek) Pacacha, she was born on November 8, 1926, in Duquesne. Dolores was retired from the West Mifflin School District where she worked  in the high school cafeteria. She was a member of Holy Cross Parish-Holy Spirit Church and she enjoyed playing cards, baking, bingo, and rooting on the Penguins. Frank “Butch” Bonosky, age 92, of Duquesne, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021, at UPMC Magee Hospital. Son of the late John and Barbara (Michulis) Bonosky, he was born in Duquesne on May 4, 1929. He was a retired bricklayer for U.S. Steel and enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing. He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He was the husband of the late Dorothy L. (Charney) Bonosky for 60 years; father of Patricia (Mark) Bezak of West Mifflin, Karen (Wayne) Peaco of Gilbert, SC, and Frank W. Bonosky of Duquesne; grandfather of Hillary (Bryan) Dranko of Liberty Boro; great grandfather of Lily and Addison Dranko. He was predeceased by brothers and sisters, Walter, Albert, Philip and John Bonosky, Barbara Rusinak and Antionette Anderson. There is no visitation. Michael F. Welsh, age 77, formerly of Duquesne, passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Allegheny General Hospital. Born in McKeesport on August 1, 1944, he was the son of  the late Michael “Moe” and Mary (Molanick) Welsh. He was retired from U.S. Steel-Duquesne Works, was a former member of the former Christ the Light of the World Parish, Holy Name Church, now St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, and he enjoyed all sports. He is the father of Carrie (Chris) Simpson of Jefferson Hills, Michael (Marta) Welsh of Miami, FL and Tiffany Welsh of Castle Shannon; grandfather of Ashley (Robert) Nebel and Makena Cooke; great grandfather of Robert Charles Nebel III; brother of Jackie (late Carl) Kisner of Florida and Richard Welsh of Texas. She worked in the bakery department at Giant Eagle, West Mifflin, was a member of St. Joseph Church, Duquesne, of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, a member of the former Christian Mothers and Third Order of Carmelites. She was the wife of the late Charles F. Wirginis; mother of Diana (Robert “Dobe”) Dillinger of Munhall, late Charles R. Wirginis (Mary Ann Zoscak of White Oak survives), late Theodore C. (late Judy) Wirginis; grandmother of Matthew (Aditi) Wirginis and Jennifer (Mike) Mengel; great grandmother of Kaya Wirginis, Nico Wirginis and Ariana Mengel. Born in Charleston, WV, on November 19, 1936, she was the daughter of the late C. Roy and Mildred (Kiger) Allison. She was a former school bus driver and worked in the IT Department and Budget Department at CCAC. She enjoyed her cats. She was the wife of the late John A. Bummer and the late Conrad J. “Dutch” Hart Jr. She is survived by children, John P. Bummer, Diane Lober and Judith Bummer; stepdaughter, Cheryl Jean Hart; 3 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and extended family, Lawrence and Mary Ann Vash and Gary Bercik.

Melvyn E. "Mel" Achtzehn

Melvyn E. Achtzehn, age 94, of Duquesne, passed away on November 15, 2021. Mel was born on April 20, 1927, in Gratztown (Amyville), PA. He was the son of Edward and Julia (Yablonsky) Achtzehn and came to Duquesne in 1937. After graduating from Duquesne High School, he studied Architecture while attending night school at Duquesne. His studies were cut short after enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corp during WWII, serving as a PFC with the 1st Marine Division in the South Pacific and North China. After his service, Mel worked for U.S. Steel in the Electric Furnace Department. He became owner and operator of an Atlantic Service Station in Duquesne and then had his own distributorship of oil products with the Atlantic Refining Company of Southwestern PA. He owned and operated Achtzehn Auto Supply in Duquesne, before retiring, where he then began working for the Maloy-Schleifer Funeral Home. Mel married  Norma Roviaro on June 23, 1949 and had 4 children; Cheryl (Gene) Dudash of Davie, FL, Lori Achtzehn of White Oak, Bonnie (Dr. James ) Acuff of McCandless Twp., and Guy (Marcy) Achtzehn of York, PA. He then was blessed with 6 Grandchildren; Dr. Bethany Dudash (Ed Toland), Nicole Dudash, Dr. Heather Acuff (John Blakeney), Haley Acuff, Dr. Megan Achtzehn (Ryan Myers) and Sydney Achtzehn. Mel belonged to Holy Name Catholic Church of the former Christ the Light of the World Parish, in Duquesne. He served as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister and sang in the choir. Mel served as a custodian for 3 years as well as on the parish council for 6 years, also serving as President. Mel organized the Parish Share plan for Holy Name, running it for many years. Mel belonged to the Knights of Columbus #4210, serving in every office of the organization including as a Past Grand Knight. He also served as the Treasurer of Council #4210 and its Corporation for 43 years. He also enjoyed singing with the Knights of Song. Mel served on the Duquesne Catholic School Board for 4 years and then moved onto the Duquesne City School Board for 4 years. He was then elected to serve on the Duquesne City Council for 6 years before becoming Mayor of the City of Duquesne from 1990-1994. He also has been the only President of the Duquesne Business Advisory Corp (DBAC) from its inception in 1978 to the present. He served as Vice President of the Steel Valley Council of Government for the City as well as serving with the Mon Valley Initiative. His awards include the Rotary, Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year, J.C. Penney Man of the Year, recognized by the House of Representatives, the Senate and the Secretary of the Treasury, Businessman of the Year by the Duquesne Business Men, and received the Community Champions Award from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and TCI. In his spare time. Mel organized motor coach trips to Seneca Niagara Casino twice a year for over 20 years. He worked tirelessly for his Community, Church, and was a devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather to his family, who loved him dearly. Mel was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Charles (Donnie) Achtzehn and sister, Shirley Mae (Achtzehn) Smith, as well as his wife Norma, in 2019. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 18 and Friday, November 19, 2021 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., at the MALOY-SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 915 KENNEDY AVE., DUQUESNE, 15110, 412-466-3300, WILLIAM B. Former Duquesne resident, Patricia “Patti” Gibbons, 66, of White Oak, passed away unexpectedly on November 7, 2021. Born March 17, 1955, she was the daughter of the late William and Patricia (Cloonan) Gibbons, of Duquesne. Preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Lutz and brother William “Gibby” Gibbons, she is survived by her children, Michelle Frizzi of West Mifflin and Michael (Lisa) Frizzi of North Huntingdon. Patti was sister to Jo (Jack) Znavor, Mary (Jim) Bick, James “Gibby” Gibbons, Maggie (late “Cookie”) Chiponis and Colleen (Tom) Washko. She was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. Patti retired from Liberty Distribution, in West Mifflin. She appreciated life and her retirement with family and friends. Without a doubt, Patti had a love for lottery tickets and shopping, was an avid reader of novels, loved watching the Steelers, and enjoying a light beer in the sun! She was known for her homemade dishes, which she shared with family and prepared for numerous charity events. Patti’s generosity and thoughtfulness will be missed by all, as her gifts were always from the heart. Timothy R. “Timmy” Beal Jr., age 33, of Washington, PA, passed away on "All Souls Day," November 2, 2021. Born in McKeesport, on November 3, 1987, he is the son of Sharon (Denne) Beal of Elizabeth Twp. and the late Timothy R. Beal Sr. He was a pizza maker at Olive Oil Pizza in Washington, PA, a member of Legacy Recovery Church, in Washington, enjoyed drums, skateboarding, fishing and motorcycle riding and was a strong advocate of Narcotics Anonymous. Timmy lost his battle with drug addiction the day before his 34th birthday. Besides his mother, he is survived by brother and sisters MaryBeth (Derek) Pero of Elizabeth Twp., Ian Galik of West Mifflin and Lauren Galik of West Mifflin; his Aunt, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews; and his beloved tortoise, Bindi. He was the grandson of the late Carl “Buck”  and Rosemary Denne and the late George and Betty Beal.

She was a former cafeteria worker for the West Mifflin School District, a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish-St. Hedwig Church, a member of the former West Mifflin Annex Senior Citizens and NARFE. Beloved wife of 63 years to the late Wasil Karlovski, she is the mother of Judith (Chris) Stokes of McKeesport and Susan (Dean) Clemons of West Mifflin; grandmother of Sam Clemons, Beth (William) Maha and late Jason (Darci survives) Stokes; great grandmother of Jonathan and Julia Clemons, Ethan and Allison Stokes and Colby Maha; sister of Bernadette Krausa, Cathy Kuhns and late Christine Hokaj. Anna was born on May 20, 1923, in McKeesport, to the late Andrew and Mary (Chernak) Durik. Anna graduated from Duquesne High School and Duff’s Business School. She retired from U.S. Steel-Duquesne Work as a supervisor in tabulating. She was a devout Christian and member of St. John Mark Lutheran Church in Homestead. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Andrew P. (late Mary) Durik, John Durik, Olga (Albert) Gould, and Irene Durik and her great nephew, Dillon Clutter. Anna is survived by niece, Mary Jane (Larry) Zadonick, nephew, Jay Gould, niece, Gloria (Eugene) Tutera and niece, Lois (Glenn) Clutter; great nephews, Aaron Zadonick, Michael (Janelle) Tutera, Ryan (Carey) Tutera and Marshall Clutter; and great-great nephews, John and David Tutera. She was the wife of the late Leonard Malinowski; mother of Mark (Kim) Malinowski Sr. of West Mifflin, late Mary Lisa (husband John survives) Holzwarth of West Mifflin, Leonard Malinowski of White Oak, and Robert (Meghan) Husfelt of Pleasant Hills; grandmother of Mark (Jessica) Malinowski Jr., Ashley Malinowski, Patrick and Shannon, Anthony (Michele) Holzwarth, Vanessa Malinowski, Valerie Malinowski, Victoria Malinowski, Haley Husfelt, Jenna Husfelt and Monica; great grandmother of Angelina Malinowski, Caleb Malinowski, McKenna Holzwarth and Zander Holzwarth; sister of Elizabeth “Betty” (late Regis) Hock of West Mifflin, late Joseph (wife Kathleen survives) Brecko of Duquesne and late John “Jim” Brecko. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. and Friday, October 22, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the MALOY-SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 915 KENNEDY AVE., DUQUESNE, 15110, 412-466-3300, WILLIAM B. SCHLEIFER, SUPERVISOR, WILLIAM BRIAN SCHLEIFER, FUNERAL DIRECTOR, where a Blessing will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Church, at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Dan Sweeney, officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
