Born in January 1953 in Augusta, GA, she is preceded in death by her parents Roy Francis (Pauline) Williams and Doris Jean Spano (Leger) as well as her sister, Marcia Williams. Colleen spent much of her childhood as an “Army Brat” traveling the world before settling in Pittsburgh, PA in 1982 to raise her daughter Jessica “to move out” as she put it (see note about independence below). She retired from the U.S. Department of Treasury, Internal Revenue Service, in 2005 after 30 years of government service and has been working for CVS Caremark since 2011.
Colleen made friends wherever she went because she was the type of person that people were drawn to. She possessed many admirable qualities - most notably her fierce independence, strength, determination, and optimism - unmatched by many. Colleen was a dedicated mother, and she especially treasured quality time with her granddaughter Olivia, who brought immense joy to her life. She enjoyed teaching and sharing with Olivia her love for gardening and cooking/grilling as often as possible, and she also tackled many home improvement projects, spent hours researching genealogy, and wrote countless poems.
Colleen is survived by her daughter Jessica Stanko (Dave Lozecki); granddaughter Olivia Stanko; brother Mark Williams (Mary Hogan); sister, RoiLyn (John) Smith; half-brother, John (Shari) Domina; as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
There is no visitation or service at this time; however, the family will plan a celebration of Colleen’s life at a later date.
