Robert A. Zaval, 102 of North Huntingdon died February 8, 2024 at his home. He was born October 10, 1921 in Philipsburg. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a foreman for Fort Pitt Steel Casting Company in McKeesport. He enjoyed crocheting, splitting wood, and daily trips to Walmart. Bob was a WWII veteran having served in the U.S. Army's 8th Armored Division in Rhineland and Central Europe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy Zaval and son Daryl Zaval. He is survived by his wife Helene Wilson Zaval, daughters Barbara Casorio (Jim Sr.) and Melanie O’Connell (James), and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. There will be no public visitation. A graveside service at Restland Memorial Park will take place at a later date. James W. Patricia A. Whyel, age 80, of McKeesport, died at home on February 5, 2024. Born May 16, 1943, in Pitcairn, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Hazel (Baker) Rutter and the wife of Joseph Whyel for 45 years.
Never one to shy away from a good game, Patricia was known for her unwavering dedication to bingo. Time spent at the local bingo hall brought her joy, as she reveled in the friendly competition and cherished moments shared with friends. Lester Earl Maurer, Jr., 88, of Versailles, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024. He was born June 14, 1935 in Greenock and was the son of the late Lester Maurer, Sr., and Gertrude Beatrice (Taylor) Maurer. Lester attended Christy Park United Methodist Church and the Boston United Methodist Church. He loved baseball and playing softball. He was a avid collector of model trains and spent countless hours decorating his platform each Christmas with elaborate towns and landscapes, most of which he crafted by hand. He was well known for his unique costumes (some he won awards for) and Halloween shenanigans to scare his grandkids or anyone who walked past him sitting on a park bench at Walmart or McDonald's. He found a second family as a patron of the Pittsburgh Renaissance festival, and even earned a spot in the royal parade among the cast and crew. He played baseball for Christy Park Methodist and was retired from the Equitable Gas Co.

Mary Pavlecic, age 95 of McKeesport, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 in UPMC East, Monroeville. Born June 1, 1928 in Wilmerding, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Mara (Nejak) Basa. A member of Mary, Mother of God Parish, Mary worked as a clerk at Kaufmann's Department Store, for Nabisco in Pittsburgh, and at Basa's Greenhouse. She was also a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge #146 and its Pensioneers and Senior Women's Club; the Penn Sembles, the Royal Neighbors, S.O.A.R., and the Mon Yough Friendship Club. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Frank "Tata" Pavlecic, who passed away August 16, 2006; her sons Frank C. Pavlecic, Jr., who passed away February 25, 2018, and Gary Pavlecic, Sr., who passed away April 21, 2009; and her siblings: Andrew Basa, Kathryn Cipcic, and Rose Patella. Joseph A. DiFalco, 86, of North Versailles, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024. He was born March 22, 1937 in Clairton and was the son of the late Domenick and Josephine (DaBaldo) DiFalco. He was the husband of 57 years to the late Shirley Mae (Paul) DiFalco, who passed away December 14, 2017. He was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish (St. Robert Bellarmine site) and was a part of The Men's Club and organized many oldies dances there. Joseph was a US Army Veteran and was a part of the 46th Medical Batallion, 4th Division. He was manager of the former Richman Brother's Clothing store and would later work at JC Penny in Monroeville. Music played a vital part of Joseph's life. He was an accomplished singer in his younger years, he loved to perform, sing and dance, and more recently was a member of The Streetlights Doo Wop Group. The radio or record player were always on. He loved to travel, especially to the beach and hang out and spend time with his family, friends and neighbors. Joseph loved his family, and was the #1 fan of all his grandchildren during all their sporting events growing up. He will be greatly missed.

Donna L. Shultz, 87, of Elizabeth, passed away Thursday morning, February 1, 2024 at the home of her nephew.
She was born November 1, 1936 in Charleroi, a daughter of the late John and Ella McCracken Shultz.
A 1955 graduate of Charleroi High School, Ms. Shultz received her bachelor of education from California University of Pennsylvania and a master’s of education from West Virginia University.
She retired from the Elizabeth Forward School District, where she was the Director of Elementary Education.
She was a member of the Elizabeth Forward Alumni and Friends Association, served as the association’s corresponding secretary and in 2001 received the Educator Recognition Award.

Virginia G. (Jean) Kudla, of Glassport, passed away on Friday, Feb. 2, 2024 at the age of 92, at Grandview Estates in Elizabeth, Pa. She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Genevieve Wawrzeniak; loving and devoted wife of the late Henry (Hank) Kudla for 55 years. Dearly beloved mother of Mary Jean (Duane) Molinaro, Henry (Cathy) Kudla, Mark (Lori) Kudla, Ruth (Pete) Chiappa and Joe (Regina) Kudla. Loving and proud grandmother of Aaron (Shelly), Joey (Lauren) and Michael Molinaro, Tom, Dan and Kristen Kudla, Chris and Matt (fiance Rachel Bartlett) Chiappa and Joseph II and John Kudla. Her great granddaughter Olivia and great grandson Ethan Molinaro, gave her great joy and enjoyment in her last years. She also had many nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by brothers Ray (Irene) and Arthur (Ethel) Wawrzeniak, and sister Evelyn (Stan) Wandel; sisters-in-law Sister Edward Kudla, Evelyn (John) Lizik, and Theresa (Edward) Tyszkiewicz; brothers-in-law John (Helen), Frank (Dorothy), Stan (Mary), Edward (Gina), Ted (Marcie) and Jake Kudla. She was born on April 21, 1931 in Glassport. A graduate of Holy Cross Elementary School and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School, she received a BS in Biology/Chemistry from Duquesne University. While Jean was working as a chemist for the Bureau of Mines, she and Hank married and started their family. After working towards, and graduating with a Master's Degree in Elementary Education, she began her career teaching at Holy Cross Elementary School in Glassport, which later became Glassport Catholic Elementary School, and then she taught at Serra Catholic High School in McKeesport. Later, at St. Joseph Regional School in Port Vue, where she taught upper elementary sciences, Jean was always looking for new ways to get students involved and excited about science. That included science projects for both local and regional science fairs. In 1994, her students' science projects (Junior Division) had so many winning entries that she won an award for her students winning the most awards! She also won the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Award, and the Alcoa Fund Award. In 1995, Jean won the Society of Analytical Chemists Award. She won the Golden Apple Award in its first year, given to top teachers in the Pittsburgh diocese. She was also nominated by past students and chosen to be included with the best teachers in America in the "Who's Who Among America's Teachers" publication, 1998 Edition. Jean was very devout in her faith, and it showed by her actions and deeds. She had served as a lector and CCD teacher at Holy Cross Church, and after they merged with St. Cecilla's to become Queen of the Rosary Parish, she became a member of their Choir for many years. She was also active in Christian Mothers, Ladies of Charity, and the Rosary Society, where she had been on the Board and past president. Jean was a caring and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved being with her family, watching her grandchildren grow up, and being a part of their lives. Her kindness, generosity, and life was a blessing to us all. We would like to thank the staff at Grandview Estates for their care and kindheartedness. We are especially greatful to Commonwealth Hospice aide Christy and nurse Nicole for their outstanding attention, love and compassion given to Jean. Friends will be received at the Wojciechowski Funeral Home, 640 Vermont Ave., Glassport, on Wed., Feb. 7, 2024 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8. A funeral mass will be held on Feb. 8, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Joachim and Anne Parish, Queen of the Rosary Church, 530 Michigan Ave., Glassport with Father Miroslaus Wojcicki as celebrant.
