She was born September 28, 1944 in Pittsburgh and was daughter of the late Larence and Elsie Hayes Rose.  Rita was a resident of Greenock for more than 40 years.  Educated as a teacher she spent 10 years teaching full-time and many more as a substitute touching the lives of all students she taught.

She was a freebird who loved to travel, was full of fun and laughter and was a loving person who loved everyone.  She was an amazing mother and aunt.

Gretchen (Phillips) Benack, age 90 of Jefferson Hills, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 30, 2020.  Born January 27, 1930 in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Hilda (Klingelhofer) and Roy Phillips, and the wife of Benny Benack.  She grew up in Clairton, graduated from Clairton High School, and got her B.A. at the University of Pittsburgh.  Gretchen was a homemaker and did administrative work for the family music business. She and her husband designed their A-frame home in the style of Frank Lloyd Wright. She was a lover of books, music, travel, and the arts. She dedicated her life to creating a supportive, nurturing and creative environment for her husband, her children and her grandchildren. Gretchen is survived by her three children -- Suzie (of Schenectady, NY), Ben (“Peek,” of Pittsburgh), and Flip (of Jefferson Hills) – and six grandchildren (Brian Marion, Laura Benack, Jenny Marion, Benny Benack III, Nicole Benack, and Jake Benack).  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Suzanne Phillips, Charles (Bud) Phillips, and Betty (Phillips) Dudiak.

Willis F. O'Neil Jr.

Willis F. O'Neil Jr. went to be with the Lord on July 30,2020. Willis was born on December 7, 1929 in Pricedale, Pa. He was the eldest son of the late Willis and Leona (Simon) O'Neil. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 38 years by General Motors Fisher Body and was a member of Local Union 544. Willis was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, the FCLSA SO77 of McKeesport, Irwin Moose Lodge 293 and a fifty year member of the FM&A Polaris Lodge. He was also a member of the Model A Restorer's Club, an avid traveler, camper and hunter. He enjoyed model trains, model planes and antique cars. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Beverly; his brother, Edwin Lee; sister, Kay Otley; and his daughter Lee Ann Gramus. He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years and best friend, Mary Anne O'Neil; a son, Geary Lee O'Neil; two grandsons, several nieces, nephews and his canine companions Danny Boy and Miss Poppy. Private services were held at the Belle Vernon Cemetery with Chaplain Tony Richardson-Eckers from the Allegheny Health Network officiating. A special thank you to AHN Hospice for their care and compassion. Due to COVID-19, the family will have a memorial service in the near future to celebrate Willis' life. Arrangements by James W. Heckenstaller, David (Kathleen) Heckenstaller, and Craig (Jim Durhan) Heckenstaller. Dear grandmother of Nathan (Casey) Rowe and Emily Rowe.  Sister of Louise Cunliffe, Natalie Roush, and Elaine Rifenberg. 

Theresa was an accomplished artist and published poet, she had a great love of knitting, baking (her famous pepperoni bread) and was an avid sender of greeting cards. She was a diehard fanatic of the local sports teams.

Dean Campbell, age 73, of Jefferson Hills, formerly of Versailles Borough, peacefully passed away at home on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020.

Dean proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Army. He was a long time member of the Grand Lodge of PA, F. & A.M. Post #375, a member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon Al-o-mon Forest Post #138, as well as, Scottish Rite in the Valley of Pittsburgh. Dean retired from Bombardier with over 30 years of service. Above all, he loved to travel and boat on the Yough Lake, where he was also a member of the Castaway Yacht Club. Dean will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.  

Dean is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Nadine (Paradise) Campbell. Brother of Gale (Jane Yelanich) Campbell of Harrison City, PA and Paul (Carlyn) Campbell of Summersville, Missouri. Dean is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

James R. McCorkle, Jr., age 66 of Clairton, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020 in John J. Kane Regional Ctr., McKeesport.  Born February 26, 1954 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late James R. McCorkle, Sr. and Jean (Keffer) McCorkle.  A member of the First United Methodist Church of Clairton, James worked for the former Marraccini's Grocery Store in Clairton and late at the Rite Aid, in Clairton.  In his spare time, he was a coach for many years of Pony League Baseball in Clairton and the statistician for Clairton High School basketball and football games.  James is survived by his children Ashley (Seth) Rowan of Elizabeth Twp. and James R. McCorkle, III of Clairton, his grandchildren Karina and Maddox Rowan, his former wife Michelle McCorkle of Finleyville, his brother Raymond McCorkle of Clairton, and his nephew Raymond McCorkle of Clairton.

Theodore (“Ted”) Andrew Govola, 93, known to those that love him as The Angel Man, of Nokomis, Florida and formerly of Glassport, Pennsylvania passed away on July 28, 2020 surrounded by his family in Pittsburgh, PA due to complications from the Wuhan Coronavirus.

Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Wojciechowski Funeral Home located at 640 Vermont Avenue, Glassport, PA 15045, with a prayer vigil to follow, and repast dinner starting at 7:00 pm at the American Legion in Glassport, PA.

Theodore was born in Monessen, PA to Michael Govola and Mary Govola (née Marchok) on October 9, 1926. He married his first wife, Laura Govola (née Kroll) on May 6, 1950 with whom he had four children. Later, he married his second wife, Flora (“Flo”) Govola (née Baron) and was married to her for 32 years before her death.

He worked for the Copperweld Corporation in Glassport, PA for over 30 years, owned and operated Deer’s Tavern in Forward Township, PA for a number of years, and worked as a data analyst for Nielsen Media Research in Oldsmar, FL for 16 years. However, his true passion was as a commercial and recreational pilot.

Agnes Helen “Aggie” Rushe Barrett, 76 of Glassport, formerly of McKeesport, passed away on Thursday, July 30th 2020 at Sycamore Estate, in Duquesne.

She was born in McKeesport on August 5th 1943 to the late William and Agnes Tachoir Rushe. Agnes was the loving wife of 54 years to the late Charles A. Barrett, who preceded her in death in 2018.

She is survived by sons; Charles (Sheri) Barrett, of Glassport, and Thomas (Gina) Barrett, of Dravosburg, grandchildren; Hannah and Brett, brothers: Robert (Lori) Rushe, of Duquesne, Ralph Rushe, of New Baltimore MI; sister: JoAnn Rushe, of Glassport, and nieces and nephews. Agnes was preceded in death by sister, Ruth Rushe, and brothers, William Rushe, Thomas Rushe, and Terry Rushe.

She was a member of the Queen of the Rosary Parish in Glassport. She enjoyed many things such as reading, crafts, puzzles, cooking, baking, and seeing her grandchildren.

Julie Elizabeth (Russen) Rocco passed away peacefully on July 31, 2020, and is now with our Lord and Savior. Mrs. Rocco, 63, was born in McKeesport Hospital on May 24, 1957. She was a lifelong member of the West Mifflin, PA community and also Ss. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Duquesne.

She graduated from West Mifflin North High School in 1975.  She obtained her degree in elementary education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1979 and taught for 40 years at Saint Rita's, Clairton Central Catholic/Saint Clare of Assisi, and mostly recently Saint Agnes in West Mifflin.

She will forever be remembered as a loving Mother, Wife, Daughter, Sister, Godmother, Aunt, and Friend to all that knew her and will be greatly treasured in everyone's hearts. Julie's life will be always be tied to her being one of the most influential educators to every student to whom she gave the gift of learning.

Donald W. Spang, age 87, of McKeesport, died July 30, 2020, at UPMC McKeesport Hospital. Born August 7, 1932, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Anthony and Leona (Glaub) Spang.

Donald was the owner and operator of Spang's Landscaping and Tree Farms for over 54 years. He will always be remembered as the "Tree Man" throughout the McKeesport area.

Every year, you could find him on Hartman Street, in McKeesport, trimming and providing the community with the perfect tree to celebrate the Christmas Season. Don could tell you the name of any tree just by looking at the leaves, but his specialty was growing and providing the perfect pine tree for the Holiday Season. He was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean War. Don loved his loyal pet dog, "Robbie." His greatest joys were his family and serving the community for over 54 years.
