Emma Jean Pilipovich, 94, of North Huntingdon, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2020.  She was born October 13, 1925 in Irwin, a daughter of the late Earl and Elizabeth (Bender) Gongaware.  Emma Jean was a former member of the Norwin Art League, was an avid seamstress and loved to read.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Pilipovich; son, Jack Proctor; brothers, James and Earl "Butch" Gongaware; and sisters, Helen Humphries and Eileen Plesniak. She is survived by her son, George Pilipovich and his wife, Cindy; daughters, Penny Pilipovich and her fiance, Bob Campbell, Marcy Burgess and her husband, Jim; daughter-in-law, Linda Proctor; and two grandchildren, Pam Pilipovich and A.J. Bergman.  Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday at the James W. Patricia Ann “Mamma G.” Leccia Gallo, 84 of Conneaut Lake, formerly of Clairton, died on July 26th, 2020 at her home. She was the loving wife of 42 years to the late Sunda Gallo. Patricia Gallo was born November 5th 1935 in Derry, PA., the daughter of the late Domenic and Clara Leccia of Corsica, France. Patricia is survived by daughters; Annette M. (Uwe) Reins, of Calabash, N.C., and Karol A. (Keith) Goodman of North Ridgeville, OH, sons; Sunda (Debbie) Gallo Jr., of Dayton, VA, John S. (Kim) Gallo, of Conneaut Lake, PA, Michael D. (Shannon) Gallo of Mt. Pleasant, SC, grandchildren; Bryan, Michael, Johnny, Danielle, Chase, Jared, Marisa, Ava, Mason, Grant, and Owin and seventeen great-grandchildren, sisters; Jolene Eaglehouse, of Latrobe, PA, Marie (Terry) Harrison, of Irwin, PA, brothers; Samuel (Regina) Leccia, of Belle Vernon, PA, James Leccia, of Belle Vernon, PA, and John (Joy) Leccia of Belle Vernon, PA. Patricia was preceded in death by her brother, Dominic Leccia, and sisters; Janie Pickering and Marcella Margo. She was known by many as an outstanding cook. Patricia worked as the Head Chef for Elby’s, Head Cook for Fairfax School System, and Head Chef and Logistics Coordinator for Meals on Wheels. Chami Hawkins, 47, was born on January 23, 1973, to Patricia A. Hawkins and the late James E. Tedder in McKeesport, PA. Chami departed this life on July 23, 2020, she was preceded in death by her son, Walter James Hawkins, and brother, Dale Andre Hawkins.  

Chami, a graduate of the Duquesne City High School, worked in the childcare industry for nearly twenty-years. She was the Site Coordinator for the Beverly Jewel Wallace Lovelace (B.J.W.L.) After-School & Summer Camp Program at the Duquesne-Orchard Park Location (formerly known as Burns Heights). Chami, accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, at an early age, and was baptized at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Duquesne, under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Norman E. Gant.

Chami, truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family over the phone, baking and cooking delicious meals for all to enjoy, and using her God-given artistic ability to design clothing, and other items. Chami’s children and grandchildren were her heart and joy, and she would go-without, for them to have and experience some of the finer things in life.

John B. Polivka

John B. Polivka, 83 of North Huntingdon, passed into the Lord's arms on Friday, July 24, 2020, at UPMC East, Monroeville. He was born on March 4, 1937, in Duquesne and was the son of the late John and Mary (Chonko) Polivka Jr. He married his high school sweetheart, Arlene J. (Takacs) Polivka who he met in the Penny Arcade in Kennywood and they would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in August of this year.

He was Byzantine Catholic by faith and belonged to SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Duquesne. John was a 11th Grade U.S. History teacher at Norwin High School from 1966 - 1995, he served as Social Studies Department Head, introduced and designed new courses (TODAE) and (PUSH) which he taught until his retirement.

He is remembered by his students for his Teddy Roosevelt lecture, First Day of School RESPECT lecture, the History Baseball Game, 10 quizzes per 6 weeks, day before Christmas Vacation 6 week exam, and the Presidents Page. John's interest ran from travel, tennis, birding, cross country skiing, movies, photography and music (he played the trumpet) and of course, teasing Arlene, "Say goodnight Gracie!"

He also was the treasurer of the Norwin Teacher's Federal Credit Union (1986 - 1999). He loved teaching and took great pride in the fact that he never wanted to be off from that job. He was always ready to go back after a long holiday.

Pleasant; his nieces Debbie, Lisa, Carol, and Wendy; and his nephews Barry and Gary.  Besides his parents, Carmen was preceded in death by his brother Anthony Brusco.

David Paul “Big Daddy Drag” Dragosin, of Clairton, PA, Loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2020, at the age of 71. David was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania to Paul and Carmela DaBaldo Dragosin. He was a graduate of Clairton High school in 1967 and continued his education at California University of Pennsylvania where he studied Radio/T.V. Communications-Pathology and Audiology and later received the University’s Outstanding Alumni Award. He married Cynthia Coburn-Dragosin on June 23rd, 1973 in Connellsville, PA. They raised four children together, which survive David. Daughters, Kimberly (Phil) Kellar, of Elizabeth, Colleen Dragosin, of Clairton, Crysta Dragosin, of Long Branch, NJ, and one son, Adam (Lisa) Dragosin of Barrington, IL. David is also survived by his loving wife Cynthia Dragosin, of Clairton, sister, Deborah “Debbie” Bielec, of Jefferson, grandchildren, Celina Maselli, Ashton Maselli, Delaney Kellar, Bruno Dragosin, and new baby Dragosin, Born July 25th. David was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Carmela Dragosin. He worked in the radio broadcast industry as a disc jockey, radio talk show host, and general manager for 23 years before focusing his passion in the T.V. broadcast industry where he was owner-operator of Dragosin Production Works from 1996-2020. David was a Jaycee, a member of the Sons of Italy in Uniontown, where he was the co-organizer of the Italian Festivals of Uniontown and Fayette County, and charity fund-raiser in Fayette County for the March of Dimes and the American Heart Association for several years. He was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, in Clairton, was active as an altar server, and also participated in the choir. David was a school director in Clairton for over 10 years, and was the co-president of the Pennsylvania Bigfoot Society. Family and friends will be received for a Memorial on Friday, July 31, 2020 from 2-4p.m at S.M. FINNEY FUNERAL HOME, 432 N. 6th St, Clairton, PA 15025. Pleasant, a daughter of the late George and Luella (Taylor) Opalenik.   Jill was a nurse’s assistant and later retired from Westmoreland County as a switchboard operator.  She was a member of Norwin Christian Church.  She closely followed politics, enjoyed shopping, going out to eat with friends, and taking vacations with her family.  She is survived by her son, John Mattey and his wife, Kristy; daughters, Jennifer Mattey-Limppo and her husband, Barry, Jaclyn Dogrul and her husband, Adam; brothers, Peter (Linda) Opalenik, Michael (Mary) Opalenik, George (Sandy) Opalenik; and five grandchildren, Azrael, Adam, Mason, Logan and Blake; and former husband, John “Duke” Mattey.  Friends will be received on Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. at the James W. Betty graduated from Clairton High school. Before developing a career as a certified nursing assistant she worked in the Clairton Steel Mill. She moved to Frederick, Maryland where she started her CNA career at Beverly manor nursing home.  She worked as a CNA for Superior home health before she retired. She married Thomas Smith Jr on October 31, 1987, and to this union, daughter Zenaida Smith was birthed.
