James Stephen Makosey, 88, of Irwin, passed away Friday, April 12, 2024. He was born August 19, 1935 in McKeesport and was the son of the late John and Mary (Telesko) Makosey. He was the husband of the late Ellen (Gross) Makosey who passed away February 15, 2019. They were married for 55 years. Jim was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and served as a pilot in the USAF Air National Guard. He worked at the Bettis Atomic Power Lab, Latrobe Steel and was a manager at the Harbison Walker Research Center in West Mifflin. He co-founded McKeesport Auto Body, owned and operated a classic car dealership, and carried out industrial consulting. He was very proud of the home that he built for Ellen's and his retirement. He was a great husband and father, loved to joke and pull pranks. He had a lifelong passion for golf and classic cars.

Shawn Scott Schultz, 65, of Elizabeth Township, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. He was born September 28, 1958 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Watson and Florence (Sweet) Schultz. Shawn was a member of the former First United Presbyterian Church of Boston and was a retired machinist for the former Daugherty Tool and Die. He was a 1976 graduate of South Allegheny High and was a lifetime member of the Port Vue Volunteer Fire Company.

Henry W. Kalkbrenner, 81, of North Huntingdon, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024. He was born June 30, 1942 and was the son of the late Frederick and Dorothy (Lewis) Kalkbrenner. He was the loving husband of 60 years to Anita Kalkbrenner. Henry was a United States Marine Corps veteran. He worked for U.S. Steel as a Blast Furnace Supervisor at the Duquesne and Edgar Thompson Works. He was also a member of the Duquesne Works Retirement Group. He loved hunting, fishing and golfing with his golf league at Butler's.

Beverly "Babs" Cherepko, 93, of Elizabeth Township, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. She was born February 27, 1931 in Charleroi and was the daughter of the late Albert Wilson Sr. and Nellie (McCracken)Wilson. She was the wife of the late Stephen Cherepko who passed away March 4, 2019. Beverly was a member of St. Michael's Orthodox Church in McKeesport. She was a retired Nurse's Aid and had worked for the Sisters of the Divine Redeemer for many years. She loved Frogs, coffee and everything "Gold". She deeply loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids and sharing sweets with Taylor and Luna and shopping. She loved her church family, especially her life long friend Patty at Church.

She was born September 25, 1942 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late Chester and Anna Wise. She was the wife of the late Joseph Alfred DeCorte, who passed away February 20, 2011. She was a member of St. Angela Merici Church and Community Life. She had many jobs throughout her life, she was a waitress and hostess for Taylor's Dining Room for many years.

Our amazing and cherished, Colin Michael Bargiel, 16, affectionately known as C-Barg, by his friends, of North Huntingdon, tragically left us on Saturday, March 30, 2024. He was born October 12, 2007 in Pittsburgh. He is the son of Amanda Bargiel and John (JC) Caputo of North Huntingdon and the late George Michael Cherepko, who passed away December 23, 2017.  Colin is the youngest of his cherished siblings, Natalia and Dylan Bargiel. The “Three Amigos”, who were inseparable. Also, two half-siblings Makenna and Noah. Colin was a current sophomore at Norwin High school, where he balanced academics, HVAC training, football and proudly wore number 17. He immensely enjoyed his social life with his many friends. His love for football went beyond the game. The brotherhood and bond he shared with his teammates was beyond measure. He was known for being a  jokester and lots of fun. Colin loved his family more than anything, his love wrapped each of us like a blanket. He was the most caring and loving son and brother anyone could have ever asked for. His light shines on!

BobbiJo Bernadowski-Bickerton, 55, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2024, in her home after a three-year battle with cancer. She was born in the winter of 1968, in Washington, PA, to Frank (Bernie) and the late MaryGrace Bernadowski. She spent her early years in California, PA and later called Virginia and Pennsylvania home.

BobbiJo was a beacon of light in our lives, always ready to lend a helping hand and offer unwavering support to those in need. Originally from California, PA, BobbiJo touched the hearts of everyone she met with her kindness, warmth, and infectious smile. Her strength and courage throughout her illness inspired all who knew her, earning her the title of a true warrior. She is now reunited in eternal peace with her beloved mother, whom BobbiJo adored dearly. Though she may no longer be with us in person, her spirit will forever live on in our hearts, and her legacy of love and compassion will continue to guide us. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Henry William Bonadio, 87, of Elizabeth Township, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024.  He was born on August 23, 1936 in Vanderbilt and was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Pepe) Bonadio.  Hank was a 1955 Graduate of Glassport High School, where he met his loving wife of 55 years, Linda Gail (Shuster) who passed in March 2015.  Hank served in the Army National Guard and worked for the McKeesport Daily News.  He moved into Grocery Retail Sales with Tenser, Phipps & Leeper and soon after, got an opportunity to do wholesale work with Nestle Candy.  He soon became the head of HBA/Candy at Atlas Sales.  His biggest opportunity came when the market was starting to talk about new business ventures called “convenience stores”.  Hank would become one of the top producers selling “Slim Jim” meat snacks for GoodMark Foods.  He was affectionately called “Slim Jim Hank”.  Hank was named Candy Ambassador of the Year in 1985 and four years later, inducted into the Candy Hall of Fame in Hershey, PA.  He was a past president and board member of the Pittsburgh Candy Club, and in 1989, started the annual Halloween Candy Distribution to patients at Pittsburgh’s Children’s Hospital.  Hank had a natural gift to sell, and every customer quickly became a friend.  After retiring from his sales career in 1998, he devoted more time to the family business, R-Place Restaurant, Catering and Bakery in Elizabeth Township.

Frank N. Zic, 94, of Scottdale, formerly of White Oak, passed peacefully on March 20, 2024. He was born December 15, 1929 in Wilson, he was the son of the late Frank and Anna Fodor Zic.  He was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish- St. Patrick Church, in Christy Park. Mr. Zic participated in R.O.T.C. training while at Duquesne University and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.B.S. in Electrical Engineering. As a lifelong employee of US Steel Clairton Works, he held various positions including General Foreman in the Maintenance and Utility Department specializing in high voltage and instrumentation, a relief Superintendent of Utilities, and Division Engineer of Maintenance and Utilities. He also headed up Air and Water pollution testing in the Mon Valley plants before retiring from the Duquesne Works Central Dispatching Office. In retirement he was a past member of Mount Vernon AARP and National AARP; past President and Vice President of the Clairton Works Maintenane and Utilities Supervisor Social club; past President, Vice President and Tour Director of The Elizabeth Twp. Senior Citizens; member of Renzie Park Seniors; Boston Commons Life Span, and participated in the UPMC  “Center for Healthy Aging Program.”  He was co-owner of the E-Z Needlecraft Shop in Boston, worked for the McKeesport Food Bank and did dedicated work with the Elizabeth Twp. Meals on Wheels. He was an avid hunter, bowler, and golfer.

She was the wife of the the late Gary Wayne Reynolds who passed away October 17, 2017,  Denise attended the Bible Fellowship Community Church of West Newton and was a 1972 graduate of Elizabeth Forward High School. She was a Flight Attendant for over 30 years and had retired from American Airlines. She had previously worked for the former US Air and Piedmont Airlines. Before becoming a Flight Attendant, Denise was a Veterinary Technician.

Keith Peter Scharding, 72, passed away peacefully at UPMC Mercy Hospital on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. He was born October 2, 1951 in Pittsburgh and was the son of the late Richard and Natalie (Topkins) Scharding. Keith graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Environmental Studies. Keith had a lifelong interest in Philosophy and Religion and is the author of a book; Historical Insights into the New Millennia. He is survived by a daughter, Tobey;  brother, Stephen; 2 granddaughters; a niece and two nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 1:00 pm at The Temple B’nai Israel Cemetery, 770 Center St, McKeesport (Versailles Boro), PA 15132. John Charles Callahan, 81, of Versailles, passed away Friday, March 15, 2024. He was born May 26, 1942 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Celestine "Chuck" and Agnes (Pipp) Callahan. John retired from ELG (Steelmet) after 30 years of service and was a US Marine Corps Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He was always quick with a joke and was loved by all who knew him. He loved his family and friends and was very proud of his children. He was a avid Steeler fan and enjoyed watching Westerns. John was a member of the White Oak American Legion.
