Florence Lee Stirbis, 84, of Elizabeth Township, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2024. She was born April 5, 1940 in Pricedale and was the daughter of the late William and Lucinda "Lula" Rainey. She was the wife of the late James Edward Stirbis who passed away January 11, 2018. Florence was a member of the First Church of God in West Newton and Eastern Star in Scottdale. She was a retired Business Agent for SEIU Local 585, as well as a school bus driver for Elizabeth Forward ISD. She is survived by her son, Clark E. Sterner of Houston, TX., and nieces. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Lou Rainey. There is no visitation. Memorial Service will be held at the First Church of God, West Newton, on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at 10:30 am. Maxine M. Leffard, 92, of McKeesport, passed away peacefully July 29, 2024 at UPMC East, Monroeville. She was born November 12, 1931 in Williamsport, a daughter of the late Stephen and Louise Luke Moday. She was a member of St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, White Oak and a member and past Wortherly Matron of Eastern Star. Maxine loved the cultural arts, cooking, spending time with her grandchildren, and spending her weekends in Ligonier. She was a former ballerina, a nurse educator for the polio unit under the direction of Jonas Salk, and a cat lover who leaves behind her beloved Mr. Cricket. Prior to her retirement, Maxine was employed as a Registered Nurse at Williamsport Hospital and McKeesport Hospital, U.S. Steel, and retired from Health America. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Leffard; son, James G. Leffard II; and brother, Stephen Moday, Jr. She is survived by her daughter Elaine Dodd (Brian); daughter-in-law, Maxine Leffard; grandchildren Christina Sechrist (Sean), Lauren Yeager (Justin), Kayleigh Miller (Colton), and Megan Dodd; great grandchildren, Alexandra, Liam, Hilda, Zachary, Clodagh, Casey, Howard, and McKenzie; sister Joyce Ann Derr and three brothers; and loving neighbor, Sue Leffard. Frank M. Matick, age 91, of North Huntingdon, passed away Monday, July 29, 2024 at his daughter’s home in Aliquippa. He was born October 15, 1932 in Wilmerding, PA, a son of the late Michael and Barbara Gruback Matick. Frank was a member of St. Agnes Parish. He was employed by U.S. Steel Research as an electrician. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, going to Eat N Park, gardening, trips to Tennessee, and visiting his family, and was an animal lover. He is survived by his son, Gary Matick; two daughters, Diane Maddox and her husband, Allen, and Marianne Matick; and four grandchildren, Kaitlynn (Jeremy Dolence), Zachery, Madeline and Joshua Salek; and brother Richard Matick (Doris). Gary K. "Block" Gilmore, age 69, of Lincoln Borough, died July 24, 2024, at home. Born September 4, 1954, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Edward and Ada (Metz) Gilmore and the husband of Linda (Sass) Gilmore.
Gary was the proud owner and operator of Gary Gilmore Trucking. He had a passion for muscle cars and could frequently be found at local car shows. He had a need for speed and truly had a thrill for all automobile racing, drag racing, and Nascar. He loved a good laugh and a toast celebrating with friends.

Christine Hamilton, age 93, of White Oak, PA, died on Friday, July 26, 2024 at her home surrounded by family and friends. She was born in McKeesport, PA on July 8, 1931 and was the daughter of the late Dr. Arthur Henry, Sr. and Henrietta Michael Hartman. Christine graduated from the Pennsylvania College for Women, now Chatham University, in an era when this was not commonplace for women. She was a member of the McKeesport College Club, and the 20th Century Club where Christine served as past president in both clubs. She also volunteered for McKeesport Meals on Wheels, the McKeesport Regional History and Heritage Center, the McKeesport High School Alumni Association as well as many, many other organizations and charities that are too many to mention. She was absolutely one of the kindest women ever born. She truly loved her children and her many, many friends with whom she spent so much time enjoying her life.

Janice Page, age 73 of McKeesport, passed away at home on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. Born February 9, 1951 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late George and Margaret (Dertich) Hancharik. A graduate of the former California Teachers' College (Cal U), Janice worked at area daycares and volunteered at area hospitals, with special needs education, and as an ASL interpreter. She was also a member of the Croatian and Ukrainian Clubs. Janice's family will remember her as a talented musician with an angelic voice who wrote music and played the guitar, banjo, mandolin and tambura. She even performed once at the Civic Arena. Janice is survived by her children Christina (Jon Bouts) Page of Kent, OH and Robert (Kelly) Page of McKeesport; her grandchildren Zachary, Elsie, Skylar Beth, Robert, Andrew, and Deva-Shay; her siblings Marjory Rost of McKeesport and George (Carol) Hancharik of Elizabeth Twp.; her niece Suzanne (Joseph Iampietro) DiGregory of West Mifflin; and her great-nieces Amanda and Allysa. Vivian enjoyed playing bingo with friends and was the biggest Dallas Cowboys football fan. She also was a pet lover, leaving behind her loyal dog, "Missy."

Edgar Danks McCandless, 97, of White Oak, passed away Tuesday July 23, 2024. He was born May 17, 1927 in Charleston, West Virginia, and was the son of the late Edgar and Elizabeth (Danks) McCandless. Edgar was a US Army Veteran, serving at the end of World War 2. After his service he graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor's degree. He was a manager for GC Murphy Company in the home office and warehouse, where he oversaw four distribution centers. He enjoyed golfing, boating, water skiing and going on cruises.

Sandra “Sandy” S. (Magyar) Maguire, age 81, of North Versailles, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2024. She was born November 2, 1942 in Braddock, a daughter of the late John and Anne (Hren) Magyar. She was a longtime member of St. Robert Bellarmine Church in East McKeesport. She worked as a bank teller for over 15 years at Equibank in McKeesport. She loved to be outside, gardening and planting flowers, cooking and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Jack Magyar; and sister Shirley Magyar. She is survived by her husband of over 57 years Gregory “Mickey” H. William “Bill” Arthur Gadson, 92, of Clairton died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on July 16, 2024, in AHN Jefferson Hospital in Jefferson Hills, PA. He was born April 21, 1932, in Clairton, Pennsylvania, and was the beloved son of the late Moses and the late Hattie Gibbs Gadson. He was one of eleven children.
Bill was a graduate of Clairton High School and served in the U.S. Air Force as a radio mechanic for the fighter bomber wing in the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge in 1953, he returned to Clairton and married the late Dron Gloria Jarrett Gadson. Through that marriage, their son, Corey Lee Gadson, was born.
Bill had a brief career working in the U.S. Steel National Tube Works in McKeesport, PA. He was well respected in the Clairton Community as a political advocate who encouraged voter participation. He led civic engagement initiatives and helped organize the local Democratic Party. He and other leaders were known for sponsoring youth bus trips and a variety of youth sports activities.

Martha J. (Jakubovics) Wincko, 86, of West Mifflin and formerly of Duquesne, peacefully fell asleep in the Lord on Monday, July 15. 2024, at Locust Grove, West Mifflin. Born in McKeesport on February 24, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Martha (Kacey) Jakubovics. Mrs. Wincko was a member of St. John Byzantine Catholic Cathedral, Munhall. For many years Mrs. Wincko was employed as a secretary for the catholic school system, including Central Catholic and St. John's School. Beloved wife of the late Joseph Wincko, she is survived by her loving children; David (Kathleen) Wincko of Elizabeth and Michael (Tesa) Wincko of Bethel Park; four grandchildren whom she adored, Jacob, Joshua, Jordan and Joseph.

TSgt. (Ret.) Larry A. Stearns, age 76 of Vanderbilt and formerly of Clairton, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Mt. Macrina Manor, Uniontown. Born October 2, 1947 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late George Brown and Margaret Stearns. A career soldier in the US Air Force serving twenty years. Larry also worked for General Motors and with the security department at Jefferson Hospital. He was a member of the Clairton VFW, the AARP, and enjoyed bingo, travelling, bowling with his league. His family will remember him as a proud Veteran and a patriotic American. Larry is survived by his daughters Angie (Tony) Kennon of Export and Gena (Brian) White of Vanderbilt; his grandchildren (whom he adored and who lovingly referred to him as "Pap Pap") Henry, Maggie, and Vivian Kennon and Nolan, Allen, and Oliver White; his cousins Eugene and George Paxon and Billy and Tommy Payne; and also many nieces and nephews. Frank W. Eichelberger, age 86, of North Huntingdon went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 18, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born March 9, 1938 in Larimer PA, son of the late William and Marie Kramer Eichelberger. Frank graduated in the Class of 1956 from North Huntingdon High School where he was Vice President and awarded most valuable football player in 1955, chosen by coaches and players. He was the founder of Eichelberger & Sons Heating and Air Conditioning in North Huntingdon and was a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church. Frank was the youngest of 10 children. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his great-grandson Judah, brothers, William, Charles, Elmer, David, Walter, Jack, and sisters Betty McCormick and Ruth Matovich. Frank is survived by his wife of 64 years and high School sweetheart Janice Flude Eichelberger, two sons, Stephen Eichelberger (Laureen) and Paul Eichelberger (Dawn), 14 grandchildren Kara (Derrick), Ellen (Jonathan), Amy (Nathan), Emma (Luis), Stephen Jr. (Kennedy), Ruby, Zebulun (Emilie), Lydia, Malachi, Nathanael, Eliab, Isaiah, Abigail, and Rebekah, nine great-grandchildren Braelynn, Alethea, Leander, Leah, Layla, Esther, Mathias, Leon, Zoe, sister Nellie Hoskins (Laymon), brother-in-law Richard Flude and many nieces and nephews. Henry A. Algeri, 86 of North Huntingdon, died Monday July 8, 2024 at his residence. He was born December 6, 1937 in Duquesne, a son of the late Henry and Agnes (Noll) Algeri and was also preceded in death by his wife Mildred J. “Midge” (Olsavsky) Algeri. Richard Lee Morrison, 87, of North Huntingdon, passed away on July 1, 2024. He was born June 25, 1937 in Elrama, a son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Keleman) Morrison and was also preceded in death by his son Richard D. Morrison, and sister in-law Janus Morrison. He was a proud Navy veteran, and prior to retirement worked at Volkswagen Westmoreland Assembly and Motor Coils Manufacturing, Braddock. Rich was hardworking man who worked overtime whenever he could, and never missed his son’s sporting events. He always kept up with the landscaping around his home and he enjoyed working on his car. He loved football and also was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. Rich is survived by his wife Constance (Kasperzak) Morrison; son Scott Morrison; grandson Brayden S. Lysle Richard Sayles, 75, affectionately known as “Cleanie” of Duquesne, was born March 9, 1949, in McKeesport, PA. He was the beloved son of the late Joseph Bernard and Frances Louise Garland Sayles.
Lysle attended and graduated from McKeesport High School. His last place of employment was at UPMC Mercy Hospital in the Housekeeping Department.
He enjoyed roller skating, he was the founder of the “Just Us Drill Team” out of McKeesport, PA. Lysle was a member of Zion Baptist Church in McKeesport, PA
Lysle departed this life on July 10, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family at his home in Duquesne, PA. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Bernard Sayles, mother, Frances Louise Garland Sayles, sisters, Barbara Gilbert and Mary Gilbert, brother, Bernard Sayles, Sister-in-law, LaRue George.
Lysle is survived by his loving spouse of 38 years Terrie George Sayles; two sons, Lysle Richard Sayles, Jr., and Elrich Sayles; stepson, Brandon (Katie) George; four grandchildren, Ericka Jesse, Treena L. Sayles, Brandon Lee George. Jr. and Kyla B. Maxine Helen Miller, age 88, of Port Vue, PA, died on Monday, July 15, 2024. She was born in Turtle Creek, PA on September 18, 1935 and was the daughter of the late Max and Elizabeth Hodgson Brickley. Maxine was a 1953 graduate of Turtle Creek High School. She was employed at Westinghouse, then EMT Service, and later as an office manager for a podiatry office. She was a member of the former Glassport Assembly of God (now River City Church AG) for over 35 years. Maxine’s interests included playing piano in her band, “Just Us”, at retirement homes, in her church, as well as participating in Vacation Bible School and Missionettes. She enjoyed archery, bowling, was an extremely talented seamstress, and made the most beautiful crafts. She also enjoyed writing children’s books.

Robert “Bob” Leroy Dougherty, Jr., age 74, of Rostraver Twp., PA, died on Monday, July 15, 2024. Bob was a dedicated volunteer for sporting events at Serra Catholic High School, and was very active in church support at St. Joseph’s in Port Vue and St. Angela’s in White Oak. He enjoyed several years of retirement in The Villages, FL before returning to Pittsburgh in 2020 to be with his family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Ricciotti, with whom she shared 52 wonderful years of marriage with. A proud graduate of McKeesport High School, Judy went on to enjoy a long and fulfilling career in the Mortgage Department at PNC. After retiring, she continued to engage with her community by working as a food sample presenter at Costco, where she delighted in sharing new tastes and friendly conversation. An active member of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America (ISDA) - Judy cherished her heritage and made lasting friendships - a member of the McKeesport Class of '54 Reunion Committee. As well as a lifelong parishioner at Mary, Mother of God Parish-St. Patrick's in McKeesport. Her faith was an important part of her life.

After raising 5 children, Margaret fearlessly pursued higher education, earning an associate's degree in Medical Transcription. She was always there for her children, whether it was helping them with school projects or making sure they had a warm breakfast before 6 AM swim practice. Margaret's zest for life was amplified by her love for music - our house could be heard rocking to John Denver, Barry Manilow, The Beach Boys Christmas, Neil Diamond, or Marlo Thomas’s Free To Be You and Me on repeat. She made each of her children feel like she was their biggest fan, supporting them in her own unique way. Margaret also touched the lives of her grandchildren, maintained lifelong friendships, and was known for her perfect gravy at Thanksgiving. Her selflessness and love knew no bounds, and she spread joy wherever she went.
We also want to express our gratitude to Margaret's caregivers, Virginia and the Berger family, for their unwavering support and care for Margaret. We are also incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from the people who have been there for the Berger family during this time. Their kindness and concern have made a meaningful difference.

William R. Thomas, age 96, of Port Vue, died July 12, 2024, at UPMC McKeesport Hospital. Born June 30, 1928, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late David and Maggie (Williams) Thomas and husband of the late Helen Thomas to whom he was married for 55 years. William dedicated his career as a tool and die maker at Excel Mold and Die in Greenock, where his precision and skill were renowned by all who worked alongside him. He proudly served in the United States Marines Corps as a Corporal. In his leisure time, William found joy in golfing with the Premco League and partaking in duck pin bowling, where his competitive spirit shone through. He had a passion for writing and would always send notes or a card to family, friends, and elected officials. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family especially his great-grandchildren. His community involvement extended to his memberships at the Port Vue Memorial American Legion Post 477 and Saints Joachim and Anne Parish. William found camaraderie and support in these groups, and his presence will be sorely missed.

James Ray Stevens, 84, of Sun City Center, Florida, passed away on June 25, 2024.
Born August 2, 1939 in Clairton, PA son of the late James and Louise Stevens. Jim who was a proud Navy Veteran, lived a very fulfilling life. Friends and family knew Jim best for his ability and enthusiasm to fix, repair and improve any and everything. It stemmed from his time in the service paired with a successful career journey working for both US Steel and General Motors.
Jim will be remembered by his favorite hobbies, especially RVing and traveling with his wife Ruth (Cochenour) Stevens. Jim spent much of his time on his prized passion of golf. He was well respected in tournament play and had recorded one ace (hole-in-one) in his career. Jim was a proud member of several fraternal organizations including, Freemasons (33rd degree) and a dedicated Elks Lodge Member.

She was the wife of the late Bernard Willis Freismuth. She received her Bachelors in Education from Duquesne University. Kathleen began her career as a Elementary School Teacher in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. She later became a Special Needs Instructor, there. She is survived by her sons, Bernard R. (Sandra) of Gibsonia, and Kurt W. (Deborah) Freismuth of O'Hara Township, daughter, Jenifer (Chris) Palazzo of Saxonburg, , sister, Thelma Milcic of Pittsburgh, grandchildren, Kristina Freismuth, Stephanie Freismuth, Kurt Freismuth, and Jonathan Freismuth, nieces and nephews. Louis E. Berta, 91, of North Huntingdon died July 5, 2024 at Forbes Hospital. He was born January 4, 1933 in West Mifflin, a son of the late Louis Sr. and Edna Young Berta. He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Irwin and was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War. Louis was a proud Eagle Scout and Boy Scout leader, having started Troop 250 in Penns Woods and was the scout leader for over 20 years. He loved his yearly family vacations at the Outer Banks, enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and playing in a dartball league, and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. Prior to his retirement, was employed by U.S. Steel Research. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Barbara Reaney and brother in law Richard Lobaugh. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 68 years, Jerry; daughters, Lori Wachter (David), Pamela Soboslay (David), and Melissa Cashdollar (Robert); grandchildren, Drs. Carl S. "Sam" Folk, Sr., 86 of Bunola, passed away Friday, July 5, 2024 at home surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born in Juniata County on November 9, 1937 and was the son of the late Clarence and Ruth (Mason) Folk. Sam worked for 35+ years for Port Authority as an Assignment Shifter, scheduling hundreds of bus routes and keeping track of each bus coming and going out of the garage. He was also simultaneously part owner, alongside his brother-in-law, Ted, of Allegheny Landscaping. Eventually retiring in 1994, Sam always kept busy outside - cutting grass, splitting wood, supervising side jobs, but most importantly enjoying time with his family poolside and vacations to the beach. Those who were close to him knew he had the biggest sweet tooth- a large sheet cake was always on the menu for family gatherings.

Monica Elayne Faulk, beloved daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2024, at the age of 42, from complications of Cushing's Disease. Monica’s kindness was reflected in her wish to be an organ donor as she had a rare blood type (b negative). Among other organs, we know that she was able to donate her liver, heart valves, and kidneys to individuals desperate for this gift of life. Monica grew up in Stahlstown/Ligonier, Pennsylvania, where she spent her childhood surrounded by the love of her parents, Rebecca and Gregory Faulk, and her brother, Denver Faulk. She graduated from Greensburg Central Catholic High School and later pursued her education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. Through education, she nurtured her passion for learning and community. Throughout her life, Monica enjoyed modeling. She cherished moments singing karaoke with her friends and finding joy in music. She held a special bond with her grandmother, Dorothea Miller (Latrobe, PA), often sharing evenings playing cards and reminiscing about cherished family memories. An adventurous spirit, Monica found great pleasure in riding with her father on his motorcycle. She was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved watching their games and cheering them on. Monica's love for warm sunny weather and the beach was a constant source of joy and relaxation in her life. Monica is preceded in death by her brother, Carey Slezak, maternal grandfather, Homer Miller, and paternal grandparents, Edward and Trudy Faulk.

Thomas Edward Icardi, 81, of North Huntingdon, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024. He was born December 25, 1942 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Leo E. and Sarah H. (Black) Icardi. He grew up in East McKeesport, and went to work at the age of 11 for his father’s business Century Construction. He was a loving father and grandfather who dedicated his life to family, and was always willing to help anyone in need. Thomas was an Army veteran and worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 37 years, where he was known as “Ike”. He was a member of American Legion Post 701, White Oak, and enjoyed fishing, especially trips to Canada and New York. Alice Vasilas, 95, of White Oak, passed away Friday, June 28, 2024. She was born October 1, 1928 in Mytilene, Greece and was the daughter of the late Eleutherios and Eleni (Sofianos) Koteros. She was the wife of the late Theodore Peter Vasilas. In addition to her parents and husband, she is also preceded in death by her son, Peter Vasilas. Alice was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, White Oak and was also a member of the Philoptochos Society there and she won the St. Photis award for 'Outstanding Parishioner' awarded by the Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Pennsylvania. Thia Alice was a seamstress extraordinaire for 20 plus years for the Kaufmann's Department Store. Her baking of Greek pastries for her family, friends and church functions was her specialty - enjoyed by all! The family extends a special thanks to Sylvia and Stella Stratigos for all of those trips / Greek parties for Thia at both nursing homes.
