Carolyn S. Twale, 76, of Greenock, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 10, 1942 in Versailles Boro and was the daughter of the late John W. and Elizabeth Radar Bales. She was a member of Boston United Methodist Church and was also a member of the Choir and Ladies Group there. Carolyn was a lifetime member of the Greenock Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 57 years, Blair William Twale, son, Paul (Tina) Twale and daughter, Sherri (Arden) McAlpine of Greenock, grandchildren, Brandon, Ashlyn, and Faith Twale, and Mark, Eric, and Scott McAlpine, brothers, John (Dolores) Bales of North Huntingdon and Charles (Gayle) Bales of Versailles, nieces and nephews.

William Howard Larson, Sr., 87, of Versailles, died Saturday, September 29, 2018. He was born September 25, 1931 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Felix Samuel and Bessie (Mills) Larson. William was a commercial artist and had worked for the former Penn Art Studio in Pittsburgh and Moreau Inc., in Monroeville. William served in the US Army during the Korean War. For his service, he received the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and UN Service Medal. He is survived by his wife, Doris May (Wecas) Larson, son, William H. Laura Beth Kachurick, 53, of Buena Vista, formerly of Boston, passed away peacefully, Thursday, September 27, 2018 in Pittsburgh. Teddy Von Hazard, 79, of Lincoln Borough, died Friday, September 21, 2018. He was born October 6, 1938 in New Castle and was the son of the late Theodore G. and Ruth (Greer) Haas. Teddy was Lincoln Borough's Chief of Police for twenty years and was also proprietor of the former Hazard's Hair Salon in North Versailles. He was a member of the Western Pennsylvania Association of Chief's of Police and was a member and past president of the Mon Valley Chief's of Police Association. He was a member of the McKeesport Sportsman's Club and the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Camp 15. He was a graduate of Community College of Allegheny County and McKeesport High School Class of 1956. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie S. Earl William Swartz, 90, of Liberty Borough, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018 at home. He was born November 21, 1927 in Elizabeth and was the son of the late Ralph and Clara (VanFossen) Swartz and was the husband of the late Dorothy (McAraw) Swartz. Earl was a member of St. Mark's Parish-St. Eugene Worship site in Liberty Borough and was a member of the Usher's Club there for over 50 years. He was a retired Tin Plate Wrapper for US Steel Irvin Works and retired in 1984 after 42 years of service. He was also a member and Trustee of the retired steelworkers organization, SOAR. Earl was a US Navy Veteran and served during WWII. For his service, he received the WWII Victory Medal. For over 50 years, Earl was an avid Duck Pin Bowler. He is survived by his daughter, Donna Swartz and son, David (Rita) Swartz of Liberty, grandchildren, Jill (Sean) Stevens, Michael (Emily) Swartz, and Kim Swartz-Gamble, and great-grandchildren, Lucas, Emma and Aubree.

Theodore L. "Ted" Buck, 95, of Liberty Borough, died Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 2, 1923 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Andrew and Elizabeth (Toth) Buck. Ted was a retired Tool and Die maker for the former Firth Sterling in McKeesport. He was a WWII US Army Veteran. For his service, he received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with 1 Bronze Battle Star, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Purple Heart for being wounded in action on July 18, 1944. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, AMVETS, East McKeesport VFW, and the Liberty Vets Club. Ted was a graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He is survived by his wife, Karen L. JoAnn (Jeffries) Geruschat, 83, of North Huntingdon, passed away surrounded by family after a long fight with cancer on Thursday, September 20, 2018. She was born January 17, 1935 in Elwood, Indiana and was the daughter of the late Floyd L. and Clevie Lackey Jeffries. She was the wife of 46 years to her beloved husband, Jack D. Geruschat, who passed away September 19, 1996. JoAnn worked as a bookkeeper for the former US Steel National Tube works in McKeesport and was a member of Cornith Chapter #229 O.E.S. and Corinthian #35 O. of A. She loved to crochet, knit, play cards and to read. She enjoyed cooking for and spending time with her family and also had many lifelong friendships. Oscar Benjamin Toth, 95, of Elizabeth Township, died Wednesday, August 22, 2018 in UPMC McKeesport Hospital after a brief illness. He was born July 22, 1923 in New Castle and was the son of the late Paul and Esther (Gyori) Toth. He was the husband of the late Angeline (Ross) Toth. They were married November 22, 1945 and celebrated 65 years of marriage sharing their time and love with family and friends.
He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Elizabeth Township and was retired from US Steel Irvin Works. Oscar was a WWII Army Veteran. He entered the Army Air Corps on February 13, 1943 and served as a ball-turret gunner on a B-17. He completed 33 Missions in the European theater before being injured in combat. His last mission was on November 30, 1944, which prevented him from returning to active duty. He proudly served his country for 2 years 3 months and 27 days. For his service he received the Purple Heart with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon. Oscar retired from US Steel Irvin Works after 38 years of service and was highly regarded by his co-workers. He developed a love of the outdoors early in his youth and became an avid hunter and fisherman. He shared his love of the outdoors with his son and then with other family members and friends and was a positive role model to follow. He is survived by his son, Benjamin (Terri) Toth of Harrisville, daughters, Laura E. (Robert) Cabon of Elizabeth Township and Linda (William) Oliver of Mercer, grandchildren, Amy, Laural, Stephen, Stephanie, Adam and Benjamin, great-grandchildren, Paige, Brianna, Claire, Christopher, Lauren, Ellena, Henry, Jack, and Matthew, and nieces and nephews.

Betty (Frantz) Davis, 97, of Upper St. Clair, formerly of Pleasant Hills, died Sunday, September 2, 2018. She was born May 8, 1921 in Clairton and was the daughter of the late Albert and Elizabeth Ann (Sharrocks) Frantz. She was the wife of the late Charles Allen Davis who died January 17, 2017. They were married for 69 years. Betty was a member of Hamilton Presbyterian Church and was a former member of Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority there. She taught school in the Clairton School District for 5 years and volunteered with Meals on Wheels for over 20 years. Betty enjoyed many things including dogs, baking, cooking, feeding the birds, book clubs, groups at church, and bridge clubs. Betty and her late husband Allen enjoyed their international experiences living in Valencia, Madrid and Bilbao. She is survived by her son, Allen (Connie) Davis of Greenville and daughter, Ann (Mark) South of North Huntingdon, grandson, Wesley (Rebecca) Davis and great-grandson, Samuel G. Davis of Fairfax, VA.
