MaryLou Cavanaugh, age 80, of Duquesne, passed away on October 13, 2021. She was born in McKeesport, on July 11, 1941. She formerly worked at U.S. Steel-Duquesne Works and later did marketing. She enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Robert Cavanaugh, at home, and James Cavanaugh; her companion of 40 years, Frank Terek; and her grandchildren, Chelsea Frazier and Shayna Cavanaugh. Constance “Connie” L. Dubyak, age 73, of White Oak, passed away on October 10, 2021, at UPMC Montefiore Hospital. Born in McKeesport on February 29, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Irene (Bodnar) Dubyak. She was the owner of a cleaning business and a member of Mary Mother of God Parish, St. Angela Merici Church in White Oak. Connie is survived by her brothers, Wesley (late Marlene) Dubyak of White Oak and Bruce (late Gina) Dubyak of North Port, FL. There is no visitation. Interment will take place at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Cemetery in Avella, PA, on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at 12:00 Noon. Glen E. “Mr. Duquesne” Smith Sr., age 65, of Duquesne, Sunrise-September 2, 1956-Sunset, October 8, 2021. Born in Duquesne, he was the son of the late Meredith and Jessie (Grace) Smith. Glen worked as a custodian for the Duquesne School District, was a cement finisher for Ben’s Constructions, worked as a groundskeeper at Kennywood and retired from McDonald’s in the maintenance department.
He was a member of Payne Chapel in Duquesne. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Freeman) Smith of Duquesne; children, Daniel Hamilton of New Kensington, Glen Hamilton of West Mifflin, Olive (Scott) Hamilton of Duquesne, Kevin Hamilton of Penn Hills, Crystal Smith of Duquesne, Derrick Hamilton of Pittsburgh, Amanda Hamilton of Duquesne, Glen E. Delphine M. “Dell” Schaff, age 89, of West Mifflin, passed away on October 3, 2021 at Locust Grove Personal Care. Born in West Mifflin on June 8, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Philomena (Bost) Schaff. She was a retired accountant from McKamish, Inc. and a member of St. Agnes Church of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish. She is survived by her sisters, Dolores P. “Duz” Schaff of West Mifflin, with whom she resided, Donna (late Joseph) Milko of West Mifflin and Diane “Bunny” (Edward) Lanyi of Latrobe, and dear friend Fran Barron of West Mifflin. She is also survived by Nieces and Nephews and Great Nieces and Great Nephews. There will be no visitation. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, West Mifflin. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery. Esther Blotzer, age 97, of Munhall, formerly of Duquesne, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021.
In her younger years, Esther was an avid spectator at all of her grandchildren’s sporting events. At 97, she was still enjoying playing cards, especially Euchre, and the game of dominoes. She was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan and never missed an episode of Sean Hannity. Her favorite pastime was shopping and she also enjoyed cooking and baking. Her homemade bread was everyone’s favorite. She also did clerical work at the Duquesne Senior Citizens Center for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Herman Kress, her husband, James Blotzer, sisters, Pearl and Edith and a brother, Bill, her sons-in-law, Charles Teichart (who lovingly dubbed her Queen Mother) and James Steiner and her granddaughter Jillann Tockstein.
Esther leaves to cherish her memory her three daughters, Joanne Steiner of West Mifflin, Joyce Blotzer of West Mifflin, Esther Teichart of Trenton, MI and a son, James (Cheri) Blotzer of Sheffield Lake, OH; grandchildren, Joyann (Joe) Drumm, James (Holly) Steiner, Jan (Greg) McNamara, Richard (Jodi) Barker, Charles (Ashley) Teichart, Joanne (Jim) Kraeuter, James (Olivia), Ryan (Alissa) and Devin Blotzer; great grandchildren, Brittany, Tony, Joyann, Samara, Alyssa, Jimmy, Shelby, Kayla, Klay, Kody, Jonathon, Jameson, Justin, Jaclyn, Madison, Zach, Jordyn, Isabella and Bennett; and great-great grandchildren, Waylon, Braden, Lexi, Camron, Braxton, Frankie, Emilio, Jayden and Cadence.

Harry G. Smith, age 73, of Irwin, passed away on September 14, 2021, at Forbes Regional Hospital. Son of the late Harry G. and Alice Louise (Scott) Smith, he was born in Pittsburgh on March 17, 1948. He was a school bus driver for 1st Student for the Jeannette School District, a member of the V.F.W. in Irwin and liked to golf. He served his country in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart and later joined the Army. He is the father of Douglas C. (Nicole) Smith of North Huntingdon, Bradley E. (Sophie) Smith of California and Ian G. (Christina) Smith Sr. of Pittsburgh; grandfather of Ashley and Steven Phipps, Evan and Alana Smith, and Aubrey, Pressley and Ian Smith Jr.

William J. Popojas Jr., age 74, of West Mifflin, passed away on September 11, 2021. Son of the late William J. Popojas Sr. and Elizabeth “Betty” (Megliss) DeCello, he was born on May 20, 1947, in Duquesne. He was the retired owner of P&S Asphalt Co, West Mifflin, a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish-St. Agnes Church, he loved to ski, and he proudly served his country in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He is the beloved husband for 46 years to Rita T. (Kirsch) Popojas; father of Jamie Popojas of Munhall, Christopher (Christina) Popojas of Pittsburgh, Bryan Popojas of West Mifflin and William J. (Dr. Dana Baxter) Popojas III of Stephens City, VA; grandfather of Connor Popojas and Caylee Popojas; brother of Lisa (late Brian) Homoki of West Mifflin and John Popojas of Seven Fields; and also many nieces and nephews.

He was a retired light rail operator from the Port Authority, president of the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum in Washington, PA, collected trains, trolleys and airplanes, and was a member of Bethel Lodge F & AM. Robert J. Butella, Sr., age 91, of West Mifflin, passed away on September 6, 2021, at Grandview Estates, Elizabeth. Born in Clairton on June 15, 1930, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Anna (Hunar) Butella. He was a retired Mail Carrier from the Duquesne Post Office and later the Mail Truck Delivery person. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish-Holy Trinity Church and served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was the husband of the late Dolores “Dolly” (Kushnir) Butella; father of Robert J. Butella Jr. of Elizabeth, Gary Butella of West Mifflin and Ronald (Anne) Butella of Perryopolis; grandfather of Robert (Hillary) Butella III, Bryan Butella, Brandon Butella, Ashley (Steven) Curry and Joshua (Brandi) Butella; 4 great grandchildren; brother of Donald (Theresa) Butella, Marian Dimpel, Eleanor Bane and late Nicholas (late Martha) Butella. She was the wife of the late Michael O’Malley; mother of Alicia O’Malley (Rafael) Fraguada and the late Patrick (surviving spouse, Kathryn) O’Malley of Singapore; grandmother of Michelle (Isaac) Steele, Ronin O’Malley, Michael Fraguada, and Lorraine Fraguada; great grandmother of Gabriel Fraguada.
