A member of the Christian Mothers and Guild, the 55 Plus Club at St. Agnes Church and a member of the former West Mifflin Annex Senior Citizens and former Knights of Columbus Senior Citizens; beloved wife of the late Joseph L. Conley; mother of James (Nancy) Conley of South Park, Paul (Janice) Conley of West Mifflin, Jack (Debbie Sullivan) Conley of West Mifflin and the late Robert (surviving spouse Marian) Conley; six grand children; seven great- grandchildren. EUGENE N. "GENE" COSTEL age 80, of West Mifflin, on February 16, 2017. He was the son of the late Nicholas and Irene (Ondik) Costel. He was a retired high school math teacher from the Steel Valley School District retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church, West Mifflin, their Men's Club and volunteered at church fish fry dinners. He was an avid bowler and an avid golfer, and had a hole-in-one at Butler's Golf Course. He proudly served his country in the Navy during the Korean War and retired from the US Naval Reserve as a Chief Warrant Officer Four with 30 years service. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion and he was a graduate of California State College. Beloved husband of 53 years to Agnes "Aggie" (Ribar) Costel; father of Gary (Melisa) Costel of Butler and Daniel Costel of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Andrew, Michael and Timmy Costel; brother of Marcella (late Buddy Petruska and late Chuck) Jaskulski of West Mifflin, Patty (Terry) Bernd of Monroeville; also nieces and nephews. Elwin Lee "Bo" Johnston age 86, of Greentree, formerly of Hazelwood, he was born December 6, 1930, in the Southside of Pittsburgh, and passed away peacefully on December 30, 2016, surrounded by his family at the Paramount Assisted Living in Baldwin. He was a son of the late Frank and Gladys Wageley Johnston. Elwin was a graduate of Taylor-Alderdice High School where he lettered in football and baseball. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and was called to serve his country during the Korean War. As a veteran of the US Army, Elwin was able to demonstrate both love of his country and his outstanding athleticism by playing baseball for the Army in Germany. He was a member of the 2nd Armored Division and the Rhine Conference Baseball Champions in 1954. Elwin was employed by US Steel and had a successful career as a computer programmer and then a systems designer until his retirement. He had an extreme love of reading, opera, golf, and the arts. He was the beloved husband of the late Lucia “Lucy” (DiGiorgio) Johnston; loving father of Kenneth (Lorraine) Johnston, Karen (Garth) Littrell, Elaine, and Fran (fiancé, Dave Hoover) Scott; grandfather of Nicholas (Nicole) Johnston, Megan (fiancé Josh Iacchini) Johnston, the late Brian Johnston, Spencer Scott, Connor (Jessica) Scott, and Lucy Scott; great-grandfather of Nicholas Johnston, Alexandra Johnston, and Gianna Scott. Elwin’s funeral services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Jefferson Memorial Park Administration Chapel, Rev. Thomas Lewandowski officiating. He was a son of the late Jack D. and Anne (Hamarich) Spell, Sr. He was retired from U.S. Steel Clairton Works with 35 years service where he was a Larry car operator. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Duquesne. He was an avid fisherman. He proudly served his country in the Marine Corps with service in Vietnam and after returning to the United States he served as a drill instructor at Quantico, VA. Beloved husband of 40 years to Edith E. He was a machinist by trade. He was a member of Christ the Light of the World Parish where he was a former altar server. He was a US Army Veteran for eight years including a tour of duty in Iraq. He received a Combat Action Badge. He was a graduate of Wilson Christian Academy and Mon Valley Technical School.
