Rochelle (Shelly) Denise Williams

Rochelle (Shelly) Denise Williams, 53, was born May 2, 1968, in Pittsburgh, PA.  She was the beloved daughter of Yvonne (Buckner) Smith and the late John Richardson. Rochelle departed this life on September 23, 2021, in Pittsburgh, PA. She was preceded in death by her father, John  Richardson.   

Shelly was a 1986 graduate of Taylor Allderdice High School and attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She was employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the Public Welfare Department.

Shelly had a vibrant personality and an infectious smile that lit up every room she walked in and touched every person she encountered. She was a fashionista who enjoyed shopping and being in the company of others. Shelly loved to laugh and have a great time. She was a devoted wife and mother whose children brought her great joy.

She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she served on the J. Harold Hayes Scholarship Committee and the Esther Project.

Joyce Ann Brown

Joyce Ann Brown, 78, was born and raised in McKeesport, Pennsylvania.  She was the beloved daughter to the late James and Beatrice (Blackwell) Johnson. Joyce entered into this world on February 23, 1943, and departed this life on September 13, 2021, at Jefferson Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Brown, Sr., son, Warren Brown, Jr., and siblings, James Johnson Jr., Bruce Allen Johnson, Karen Denise Johnson.

Joyce worked as an Auditor for Blue Cross/Blue Shield until she retired. Anyone that truly knew Joyce knew she was a loving, caring, warm person who devoted her life to the ones she loved. She loved holidays and birthdays where she was able to prepare a feast of food that everyone loved and enjoyed. She is survived by her daughter, Kristin (Carlis) Wiggins of McKeesport, PA; 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Karli Asti Short

Karli Asti Short, 26, was born July 18, 1995. She was the beloved daughter of Brandon Short and Krista Pettis. Karli attended McKeesport Area School District and was a graduate of McKeesport High School Class of 2014.

At the age of four, Karli was a cheerleader for White Oak Falcons. Also, she played basketball at the McKeesport YMCA and was a majorette for Golden Eagle in North Huntington. Having studied cosmetology in high school, following graduation, Karli used that portion of her education working part-time as a hairstylist and makeup artist. She enjoyed making people feel their best by looking their best for special occasions. Additionally, Karli was an excellent cook and worked at PC Planning and Catering were her specialty dish was macaroni and cheese.

The job Karli loved the most was as a caregiver where she worked at Mt. Vernon of South Park and most recently, Senior Care Plaza. This work tapped into her caring nature and she felt joy helping those who needed help. In her youth, Karli attended Bethlehem Baptist Church where she was an active member of the Sunday School. She participated in the annual Easter and Christmas services and was always excited to deliver her speeches. Karli never strayed from her Lord and Savior Jesus.

Walter Lee White Sr.

Walter Lee White Sr., 81, was born October 13, 1939, in Dora, Alabama.  The beloved son of Moses White and Doris Ramsaw Cobb, departed this life on August 23, 2021, in McKeesport, PA. Walter grew up in Duquesne, PA where he spend most of his time.

Walter was a lifelong member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, in Duquesne, PA. He attended school later in life where he earns his diploma.

Walter worked as Head Maintenance for the Pittsburgh Housing Authority, where he retired in 2007. Once retired Walter spends most of his time listening to music and watching his favorite movies and spending his days talking on the phone with his sister Esmarelda.

After the passing of his wife Deborah, Walter went to live with his beloved daughter Joy Burgwin in Elizabeth Township PA. Where he lived out the rest of his life.

Born August 21st, 1981 in McKeesport, PA. He was the beloved son of Dewayne Jacobs, Sr. and Cynthia  (Grubbs) McGowan. In addition to his father, Harvey was proceeded in death by his brother Quadre Jacobs.

Wanda Elaine Wright was born in Washington D.C. to Alvena Blanche Wright (Hawkins) and Ernest William Wright on November 14, 1948. Wanda was raised in Johnstown PA. with her younger brother Ronald and was educated in the Johnstown public school system. As a student, she always had a deep appreciation for the arts and educating children. As a child she took ballet and tap lessons and learned to play both the piano and clarinet. As a high school student, she played clarinet in the marching band for her beloved Johnstown High.

After graduation, she attended Harcum Jr. college where she earned an associate's in Education and later attended Millersville State college for teachers in Millersville PA. While in pursuit of her degree she became pregnant with her first son Jason David. Determined to finish her education she made arrangements with family to finish her bachelor’s degree and then her Master’s in Education from what is now known as Millersville University.

Upon graduation, she moved to Pittsburgh PA to start a life with her son and became a Special Education teacher at Friendship Academy in the Bloomfield area of Pittsburgh. As a teacher she touched many lives developed life-long bonds with several of her students. A few years later she married and gave birth to her second son Adam Joseph. When Adam was still an infant she divorced and was a single parent to two young boys. She kept the boys busy in sports making it clear that education was their primary focus and top priority. She attended all their games, piano recitals, karate tournament, and events. During so, she met Jerry Sterling who she dated and eventually married in 1987. His son Emmanuel Scott became the third son to her trio of boys.

Kathleen worked as a Senior Caretaker for 20+ years. She enjoyed helping and taking care of others. She loved her family and friends with all of her heart. Her favorite hobbies included bingo, scratch-off tickets, listening to slow jams and binge-watching her favorite tv shows.

Bonnie Clare (Como) Belton

Bonnie Clare Belton, 64, died July 8, 2021 at UPMC Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh, Uptown.

She was born at McKeesport, PA on September 4, 1956.  She received her education from public schools and served as a nurses’ aide while rearing her son, Omar, and Daughter, Tia.  She made time to help others who had no work.  She was married to Gerald Allen Belton, sharing their love for over for decades. She also enjoyed her friendships and loved playing bingo with her friends.  

Bonnie was not a stranger to trusting God and she put her faith and trust in Him during her bout with cancer, submitting her life to Jesus Christ when attending the McBLCOG as she sought healing, and was pronounced cancer-free over sixteen years ago.  She always remembered that our Lord hears and answers prayers and sought counsel from Pastor Bates in August 2020, about her spiritual needs.

Marilyn Wood Baldwin

Marilyn Wood Baldwin, age 92 of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, passed away on Friday, July 9, 2021, at Sycamore Estate in Duquesne, Pennsylvania. She was born December 15, 1928, in Wilmerding, Pennsylvania, also known as “Boyd Hill” to the late Percy “Sonny” Woods and Birdie Mae Woods Lodkey.  She relocated to Duquesne, Pennsylvania at an early age and was reared by her grandparents, the late Rev. William Woods and Sarah Winbush Woods.

The oldest of 11 children, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Eugene Baldwin; sister, Myrtle Hampton of California; and two brothers:  Charles Lodkey of Pittsburgh, PA and Franklin O. Lodkey of Wilmerding, PA. Marilyn was the sister of Eva (Clarence) Williams of Denver, CO;  Barbara J. Freeman (late James) of Jefferson Hills, PA;  Vera (Dave) Burke of Monroeville, PA:  Bhavananda Lodkey-Dekker (JanJaap Dekker) of Santa Cruz, CA;  Joseph A. Lodkey of San Francisco, CA;  and Doris Eleanor Lodkey of Monroeville, PA.

She was the mother of Faith Baldwin Bray (late Frederick A. Bray Sr.); and the love of her life, granddaughter Felicia Danita Bray.  She also was an inspiration to the children that she adored:  the late Betty Hughes Corbett, Beverly Hughes Knight (late Adolphus), Marva (Lewis) Haynes and John “Sonny” Hughes; “Special” Grandsons:  Elder Leslie E. Sandidge and Vernon “VJ” Cox Jr. She also was the godmother to Kim (Vaughn) Newberry; Marilyn Cotton; Dolores B. Sandidge; and Sidney Rae Eugene Tennon.

 Marilyn attended and graduated from Duquesne High School in 1946. She graduated from Duff’s Iron City Business College, Pittsburgh, PA in 1948. She furthered her education by attending Gary College and Indiana University Extension in Gary, Indiana from 1948-1950. She was employed by Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, and retired in 1989 as an Administrative Secretary to Dr. Charles E. Copeland, Chief of General Surgery for 20 years. She also found time to share her musical talents and taught many children for years giving private piano lessons in her home.
