Rev. Kenneth O’Dale Coleman, 72, was born on July 4, 1947 to the late Charles and Willa Mae Coleman in Scott Haven, PA. He departed this life on April 17, 2020 at Glen Hazel Nursing Home, and was preceded in death by his siblings, Carl Coleman, Charles Coleman, Leonard Coleman and Rebecca Coleman

As a youth, Kenneth graduated from Yough High School. He joined the United States Army and completed his service in 1973. After the military, he worked many years with Duquesne Light until he retired.

Robin Bush, 56, born November 28, 1963 to the late Carl Bush and Shirley Ballard, departed this life on April 11, 2020 at UPMC.  Robin was raised in Clairton from a young age and was a 1982 graduate of Clairton High School. She went on to obtain a BA degree in Fashion Design with a minor in Accounting from IUP. Robin, known to those who loved her as “Shake” lived her life to the fullest. She was forever encouraging her family and friends to do the same. She was a fabulous and devoted mother to her sons, Miles and VJ. She was a daughter, cousin, friend, confident, and guider to many. Robin was a fighter.

Mrs. Frances Brown Booker, 93, of Clairton, Pa departed this life peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2020, in Manor Care Whitehall, PA. She was born May 3, 1926, in Clairton. She was the third of twelve children born to Deacon Richard and Sister Agganora Pipkin Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Deacon Joseph Booker, her parents, son, Dr. Joseph Booker, daughter, Marlene "Cricket" Moore, brothers, Elder James Willie Brown, Dr. Richard Brown, Jr., Dr. Charles Curtis Brown, Sr., and Elder Robert Lewis "Cee" Brown. 

She was a lifelong member of the Clairton Church of God in Christ, later renamed Gethsemane C.O.G.I.C, having been born the year the church started in Lincoln way. She served as a Sunday School teacher and church secretary under then Pastor Elder Ithiel C. Clemmons, She was more recently appointed Church Mother under current Pastor and her youngest brother, Dr. Melvin Brown, Sr.

Benjamin Cooper departed this life on April 7, 2020, peacefully with his wife by his side; he was born on November 5, 1937 in McKeesport to the late Benjamin Cooper Sr., & Bernice Bostic Cooper Davis and was preceded in death by his daughter Kamala Cooper Hamilton. 

He enlisted in the army and subsequently the air force. He was employed by MARK Construction for 20 years and part of many projects such as: High View Gardens (apartments), Duquesne University (dormitories), Clairton Municipal Building and various projects throughout various states: North Carolina, Mississippi and Louisiana.

He retired from McKeesport School District where he was a Grounds Keeper of 10 years.

Theresa Renee Spell, 58, of McKeesport, was born on March 30, 1962 to Willie Mae “Jenny” Stinson and the late Albert Nixon. Absent from the body, but present with the Lord, Theresa passed away on April 5, 2020 at the UMPC McKeesport Hospital.

Theresa, a graduate of McKeesport Area High School where she was a tiger cheerleader, was a Homemaker. She was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She nurtured and filled the home with a joyful spirit. Her voice could be heard through the soulful sounds of Gospel Music.

Helen Lavern Dudley McKissick

Helen Lavern Dudley McKissick, 74, of McKeesport, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 2, 2020, at home surrounded by her children and loving family members.

Born February 12, 1946, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walton and Hilda Christian Dudley.  Helen attended McKeesport Area School District and was a graduate in 1965.

As a young girl Helen gave her life to Christ, but, being one that didn’t like submersion of water or swim, she was reluctant to be baptized.  However, she was elated that she decided to be baptized in October 2018 at Bethlehem Temple Church of Duquesne, and was a joyous member of Payne Chapel AME Church of Duquesne, where she served on the Steward board.

Pearl Mohammed, 89 years old, of West Mifflin, passed away on April 1, 2020 at Jefferson Hospital.  The eldest of 14 children. She was also preceded in death by her two sons, Kenny Mohammed and Mikey Ramtahal. She immigrated from Trinidad and Tobago in 1970. She worked for the Spitz family and then for McKeesport Hospital before retiring in 1996. She was a warrior for the Lord teaching bible study at McKeesport YMCA, being a prayer partner at Cornerstone television for over 20 years and becoming an alumnus of Harty Bible School.

Deidre R. Smith joined her Heavenly Father in Heaven on March 30, 2020. She was 64. Deidre was born July 10, 1955 to the late Tony and Marcella Smith in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Victor and Gary Smith. Deidre was raised in Clairton, Pennsylvania. Family and friends called her Dee Dee. She attended Clairton High School. She relocated to Los Angeles, California for a short time. For many years, Deidre worked in the healthcare field, it suited her servant's heart.

Deidre loved people, especially her family (nieces and nephews). She can be quoted as saying, “What you cooking?” She had an eye for fashion, always wanted to look good. If she was going out, she had no problem with buying a new outfit. She was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church of Clairton, PA.

Barbara M. Arnold was born February 7, 1943 in Clairton, Pennsylvania to the late Willie Gressem and Eva Hawkins Gressem.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Eva Marie Arnold; siblings, Rebecca McGrew and William Gressen, Sr.  Barbara fought a good fight and finished her course, she transitioned to eternal life on Tuesday, March 31, 2020.

Barbara was married to Frederick Arnold for 61 beautiful years. To this union, four children were born. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. Barbara especially loved and spoiled her grandchildren. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her children or grandchildren.  Barbara was truly family-oriented; the one thing you could say about Barbara is that she loved the Gressem and Arnold family alike.

Chasae was part of the Janitorial Staff at Pittsburgh International Airport. Chasae is survived by his loving parents, Charles Warfield, Jr. and Lillie Swindle; children, Persona Swindle-Warfield, Sachae Swindle, Shaunsae Swindle, Tempest  Shogan; two grandsons, Marvelle Warfield and Mikhail Warfield-Oliver; extended family and friends.

Mrs. Marshall passed away peacefully at Riverside Care Center on  March 27, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Herbert Marshall, Sr.; sons, Herbert Marshall, Jr., Albert Marshall, Marcel Marshall; grandson, Alexander Marshall; brothers, Lee Smith, Leslie Smith, Russell Smith and sisters Beula Dixon, Elizabeth Fennell, Lillian McCray, and Laura Alford.

Mrs. Sarah attended McKeesport High School. After graduation, she obtained an associate degree from Robert Morris University. For many years, Mrs. Sarah worked as a Beautician. It suited her eye for fashion. She loved flowers. Her true love was for her family.

Gary Allen Perkins

Gary Allen Perkins, loving son and father, passed away March 22, 2020, at the age of 57.

Gary was born on June 23, 1962, in McKeesport, PA to Mildred Nails and the late Milton Perkins. He graduated from Clairton High School in 1980. After graduation, he attended Austin Peay State University on a football scholarship. Shortly after going to college, Gary joined the Marine Corps Reserve. He worked as a repair technician for John Hopkins University.

Gary had a passion for learning and teaching African spirituality. He also loved to play the drums for his Pan African Religious organization; Auser Auset. When Gary moved to Washington, D.C. he researched and practiced living a healthy plant-based lifestyle. He specifically studied the African Bio-mineral Balance. Gary was also an avid music and sports lover. Whenever he walked into a room or greeted a family member or friend, he would always say the phrase, “What’s Happening!” He always brought joy and happiness to everyone in his path.

Later, Vida received her bachelor’s degree in Criminology at Point Park University. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed puzzles, reading and sewing.

James William Carter Sr., was born on June 25, 1942, in Troy, Virginia. He resided in McKeesport, PA until he was called home to be with the Lord. During his younger years, you could find him on the softball field or under the hood of a car. He loved to hunt and was an avid fisherman. He retired from Westinghouse Airbrake and was a hard worker. His family meant the world to him.

Gladys Marie George Keith

Gladys Marie George Keith was born September 27, 1923, in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Albert Benjamin and Anna Louise George. Gladys moved to Clairton, Pennsylvania as a young girl. She graduated from high school in Large, Pennsylvania, currently known as Jefferson Hills. Gladys met and was married to Deacon Robert Henry Keith Sr. in 1940. This union produced three children Anna Louise, Robert Henry Jr., and Sandra Marie. Deacon and Deaconess Keith were married for over 47 years until his death in 1988.

Gladys loved people and her life was full of friends and family. Gladys was a remarkably sweet and caring person who gave of herself and her possessions freely, generously, selflessly and without any expectation of return. She was employed by the Jefferson Hills Police Department where she retired as a crossing guard for West Jefferson Hills School District. Before his death, Deacon and Deaconess Keith enjoyed traveling domestically and internationally to visit relatives in places such as the Virgin Islands, California, Texas and Hawaii.
