Mary (Mindas) Cmar, 89, of Munhall, formerly of West Mifflin, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, after suffering from the results of a massive stroke in April of this year. 

Born on September 23, 1932, in Hrhov, Slovakia, she emigrated to Duquesne, at 14 years of age.  She was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Sopko) Mindas.  She was wholeheartedly  welcomed into the arms of her loving husband, Edward J. Cmar, Sr., who died in 1987, reunited together, and endlessly catching up on their beloved family memories in heaven.

She is survived by her loving children, Carol (Patrick) Fleming of West Mifflin, and Edward J. Cmar of Columbus, Ohio, her grandchildren, Nicholas (Melissa) Fleming, Angela (Nathan) Bundy, Joseph (Samantha) Fleming, Rebecca Cmar, Patrick Fleming, Jr., and Samuel (Jeanie) Fleming, as well as the lights of her life, her great-grandchildren, Connor, Rowland, Eden, Everleigh, Blake, Brody, Gunnar and Blaise, all of whom she prayed for daily.

William A. "Bill" Haley

William A. "Bill" Haley, 94, of North Huntingdon, peacefully fell asleep in the Lord on Friday August 5, 2022, in Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. Born in Duquesne, June 22, 1928, he was the son of the late Andrej "Andy" and Anna (Artim) Haley. Beloved husband of 68 years to Florence (Petriskie) Haley, he is also survived by a son, Bill (Cyndee) Haley, a daughter Denise (late Jeff Pavlic), A brother Andy (Olive) Haley; three grandchildren, Billy (Charity) Haley, Jenny Haley, and Josh Cooley, six great grandchildren, Kayla, Alyssa, Devon, Isaac, Addy, and Cody; also several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Bobby Haley and three brothers, Tom (late Martha) Haley, Bob Haley, and Jerry Haley. Mr. Haley was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Duquesne, and a retired brakeman for the Union Railroad Company. Mr. Haley was also an accomplished masonary worker. He was a loving family man who enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting, fishing and gardening. He also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.

Family and friends will be received from 12 noon until a Parastas Service at 3P.M. on Monday, August 8, 2022, in the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home, Inc., 828 Richford Street, Duquesne with Rev. Will Rupp officiating. Burial will follow in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, West Mifflin.

John "Butch" Coyne

John (Butch) Coyne, 73, of Hazelwood, passed peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 . Born December 23, 1948, in Hazelwood,  to Rose (Provident) and Edward T. Coyne, Sr. He was a graduate of Bishop Boyle High School. He married Karen (Poniatowski) October 21, 1978. Together they shared four children; Sara (Ed) Foster, Jon (Kristin), Liam (Amy) Coyne, and Devin (Tom) Madden. He also had nine loving grandchildren; Brianna, Leanna, Angela, Carmella, Olivia, Gianna, Eddie, Abigail, and Leland. . Brother of the late Edward T. Coyne Jr. survived by his wife, Mary Rita and their children Regina (Nate), Eddie (Brooke), and Kathleen (Matt), along with his great nieces and nephews.

He worked at Calig Steel Drum Company until their closure and later as a security guard for Pittsburgh Public Schools. John lived his life to the fullest through the simple things; chatting with friends and family, telling stories, and spending time with his grandchildren. Butch was a well respected man by everyone he came in contact with including the many students he mentored as his time as a security officer at Langley and Brashear High School. 

Family and friends will be received from 2-8 P.M. on Thursday, August 4, 2022, in the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home, Inc., 828 Richford Street, Duquesne. Parting prayers will be praye at 10:15 A.M. on Friday, August 5, in the Memorial Home, followed by Funeral Services at 11 A.M. in the Hazelwood Christian Church, 118 Glen Caladh Street, Hazelwood.

Lizabeth M. Stevenson, 91, of West Mifflin, entered into eternal life peacefully on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, in Promedica Peters Twp. Born in Duquesne, January 8, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Semko) Topolyan Sr. Mrs. Stevenson was a homemaker, a lifelong member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Duquesne, of St.Thomas the Apostle Parish, she was a former member of the former Confraternity of Christian Mothers, she loved going to the casino and never missed an episode of Jeopardy. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert S. Stevenson, she is survived by her loving children, Linda (Patrick) Sopher, Lisa A. Stevenson, and Robert J. Stevenson, two grandchildren, Stephen P. Sopher and Heather C. Sopher, a niece and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, Gary Stevenson, six brothers, George, Michael, Paul, John, Stephen, and Joseph Topolyan, and a sister, Anna Kopolka.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mrs. Stevenson's life at a mass of Christian burial on Monday, August 1, 2022, at 11 A.M. in St. Joseph Church, Grant Ave, Duquesne, with Rev. Daniel Sweeney as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Mifflin. Albert F. Iera, 79, of West Mifflin, passed peacefully into eternal life on Saturday, July 2, 2022. Born December 30, 1942, in San Mango d'Aquino, Italy, he was the son of the late Theodore Garibaldi Iera and Maria Mastroianni Iera. Mr. Iera was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, St. Joseph Church, Duquesne, and the proprietor of Latina Pizza in West Mifflin since 1967. Beloved husband of Janet L. Larson Iera, he is also survived by his loving children Anthony (Rebecca) Iera and Lisa (Late Gary) Iera, a brother, Leonard Iera and a sister, Carolina Caputo, ten grandchildren, Maxamillion, Luciano, Alexander, Kristian, Quintan, Bella, Delilah, Morgan, Tabitha, and Bjorn, and nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Claire Iera.

Friends and family will be received on Saturday July 9, 2022 from 4-8P.M. and Sunday July 10, 2022 from 1-8P.M. in the  William S. Skovranko Memorial Home Inc. 828 Richford Street, Duquesne. Eli Vojnovich, Jr., 92, of Duquesne, PA, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022. Eli was born October 16, 1929 in Duquesne, the son of the late Eli and Mary (Stipanovich) Vojnovich. He graduated from Duquesne High School in 1948 where he excelled on the swim team. He was an Army veteran, serving in Germany from 1952-1953. He was a devoted son and could be found, along with his brothers, working in the family beer garden, Butch’s Wonder Bar in Duquesne. He retired from US Steel. He was a lifelong member of St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in McKeesport. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Helen (Peter) Medic and brothers John, Mark (Betty) and William Vojnovich. He was also preceded in death by a niece and great niece. Eli was the favorite uncle of many of his nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He loved crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, drawing, painting and watching Pittsburgh sports. He made the best popcorn, always had a smile and will be missed dearly. He is survived by his brother Donald (Milena) Vojnovich and sister-n-law Dolores Vojnovich, all of North Huntingdon. He is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews, 23 great nieces and nephews and 22 great, great nieces and nephews.

Timothy S. Petrisko

Timothy Stephen Petrisko, 80 years old of Duquesne, PA, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022.  Tim was born in Duquesne to the late Stephen and Helen Petrisko. He grew up with his siblings, Sean, Joel and Mary Lou.

Tim worked at the Duquesne Steel Mill until the plant began to close down. After a variety of opportunities, he went to work for UPMC and became a supervisor for numerous parking facilities. During this time, he served on the Duquesne Public Schools school board for six years. After his time on the school board, he served on Duquesne City Council for 26 years. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church Duquesne PA, where he was also a member and Past President of the Church’s Men’s Club.   Tim was also a member of the Duquesne-West Mifflin Knights of Columbus Council 4210 and the Stephen P. Barry Assembly of the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus.  

In his early 20’s, he met Carol (Yesesky) and a short time later, they were married October 19, 1963 and started a family complete with 3 children. Being a dependable father was of the utmost importance to Tim and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to supporting his family.

Tim is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carol (Yesesky) Petrisko; his three children, Timothy R. (Terri) of Cary, NC, Robert (Kim) of Allison Park and Christina (Ian) Caballero of Waldorf, MD; and his five grandchildren, Tiffany Petrisko, Angelica Petrisko, Gabrielle Petrisko, Julio Caballero and Rebekah Caballero; sister Mary Lou Petrisko of Evansville, IN, brothers Deacon Sean (Ruth) Petrisko of Homestead and Joel Petrisko of West View.

Born in Duquesne, February 7, 1929, he was the son of the late John  and Elizabeth (Balogac) Spirnak. Mr. Spirnak was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, St. Rita Church, Whitaker and a retired supervisor of Fisher Body, General Motors Corporation and proud veteran of the U.S. Army Korean War. Beloved husband of the late Marie (Dickson) Spirnak, he is also survived by his loving children, Dale (Michele) Spirnak of Munhall, Jacqueline Spirnak of Bridgeville, Gary Spirnak of California, Donna Greiner of Indiana, Karen (Richard) Allen of Tennessee, David Spirnak of Texas and Ray Spirnak of Indiana, five grand children, Eric and Nicholas Greiner, Mark and John Spirnak, and Lauren Poland, one great granddaughter, Vivian Poland and one sister Eleanor (late "Tim") Marcinko, of West Mifflin. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by  sister, late Mary (late John) Sabol.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday May 12, 2022, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M., in the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home Inc., 828 Richford Street, Duquesne. Dorothy Sylvia Hubbell

Dorothy Sylvia (Kapso) Hubbell, 90, lifelong resident of Duquesne, Pennsylvania, peacefully passed away and entered into Heaven on Wednesday, March 23, 2022.  Dorothy was born on November 25, 1931 in Duquesne, PA.  She was the daughter of the late Anton and Agnes (Vucetic) Kapso. 

 

She was a retired caseworker for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and later served as a Croatian translator helping immigrants with their United States citizenship and medical care. 

 

Dorothy was a loving mother to her children, Diane (Robert) Zapf, Deborah (Thomas) Mack, William York, Dawn Hubbell, and the late John York.  She is survived by a brother, Stanley Kapso, three grandchildren, Robert (Jennifer) Zapf, Ashley Zapf, and William (Julie) York, and a great-granddaughter, Emelie Zapf.  Dorothy was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Smith, and two brothers, William and Joseph Kapso.

 

Dorothy Hubbell was a devoted fan to her beloved Pittsburgh Pirates, Penguins, and Steelers.  She was computer savvy and enjoyed music, gardening, current affairs and politics.  Above all, she loved taking care of her family.

 

Family and friends will be received on Monday, March 28, 2022 from 6 - 8 P.M. at the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home Inc., 828 Richford Street, Duquesne, Pennsylvania 15110.

The Blessing will be on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at the Memorial Home with Rev. Tony Gargotta  officiating.  Burial will follow in Holy Name Cemetery, 1451 Willard Avenue, West Mifflin, Pennsylvania 15122.

He was the beloved husband of the late Phyllis (Kacik) Bonacci, he is survived by his loving children, Richard J. Bonacci and Gary M. (Michele) Bonacci, two sisters, Angeline (Ron) Bost and Delores (Late George) Zuber, four grandchildren, Kirk, Brian, Christopher and Erika Bonacci and four great grandchildren, Devin, Chloe, Emily and Melia Bonacci. Born in Whitaker on April 1, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Ruben and Loretta (Steimer) Baughman. Beloved wife of sixty-seven and a half years to Edward A. Samudosky, she is also survived by two loving children, Linda L. Halliday and David (Cindy Ivaska) Samudosky; two grandchildren Stacey (James Payne) Halliday and Justin Halliday; and three great grandchildren, Briyana Halliday, Harper Payne and Riley Payne.

Born in McKeesport, May 18, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Luther M. and Anna M. (Krenitsky) Bovee. Mrs. Collins was a retired assistant manager from Rite-Aid Drug Company. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. Collins. She is survived by a son, Adam R. Collins, a daughter, Ashley E. Collins, a brother, Martin L. (Patricia) Bovee, a sister, Jeannine D. (Late Raymond) Perhacs, cousin William Moravets, and several nieces and nephews.

Francis W. Balombiny

Francis W. Balombiny, 95 of North Versailles, peacefully fell asleep in the Lord, on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Forbes Regional Medical Center. Born March 5, 1926, in Duquesne, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Hayduk) Balombiny and loving husband of the late Antoinette (Paul) Balombiny. In addition to his parents and beloved wife he was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond, Edward, George and John Balombiny and two sisters, Irene Bartos and Geraldine Selznick. He is survived by his caregiver and Godson, Robert Payne and nieces and nephews. After graduating from Duquesne High School, Duquesne University with a degree in Accounting and Education and Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Psychology, Mr. Balombiny continued his education doing graduate work at both Penn State University and the University of California at Davis. Mr. Balombiny's career in Education spanned forty two plus years as a public school teacher at Belle Vernon Area and the Duquesne School system for 10 years; Guidance Counselor at Duquesne High School for 10 years; ad spending over 22 years with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit in the Psychology Department working with handicapped children. Mr. Balombiny was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Pittsburgh, the Italian Sons and Daughters of America, Caliguiri Lodge of the ISDA, the Friendship Club, the American Legion in White Oak, and AARP #3956 in Bloomfield. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II.

Helene R. Nulty, 52, of West Mifflin, died at home on Friday, December 10, 2021. Born in McKeesport, June 13, 1969, she was the daughter of Johnny Nulty and the late Diana Korbanic Nulty. Helene spent her working career in department store loss prevention. In addition to her father she is also survived by a son, Jonathan Nulty, a brother John W. Nulty, and two sisters, Dawn (Ronald Gates) Nulty and Tiffany Nulty.
