She was born January 6, 1926 in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Paul and Esther Eves. She was a waitress and Benedict’s Hotel in Pitcairn and Drew Menas Restaurant in North Versailles. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters June, Jean and Doris; and her brother Sonny. She is survived by her children Glenn (Kathy) Ervin, Scott Ervin and Dennis (Shirley) Ervin; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren.

Cora L. (Wyncoop) McAuliffe Dixon, age 94, of Scott Township, formerly of North Versailles, Elizabeth Township and Finleyville, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2020. She was born February 8, 1926 in Clairton, daughter of the late George Paul and Elsie Bailey Wyncoop. Cora was a homemaker for most of her life but also worked for J.C. Penney’s at the Eastland Mall for several years. She was a former member of Mary Mother of God Parish (formerly St. Robert Bellarmine Church) in East McKeesport, St. Michael’s in Elizabeth Township and St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Finleyville, as well as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion of Finleyville.

Helen “Sis” E. (Patterson) Kalkbrenner, age 80, of East McKeesport, passed away Friday, July 10, 2020. She was born November 29, 1939 in McKeesport, the daughter of the late John and Lola Patterson.

She worked for over 45 years at American General Insurance Company before retiring. “Sis” was always happy and telling jokes. She enjoyed camping, shopping and spending time with family and friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Robert N. Patterson.

She is survived by her husband James Kalkbrenner; and nieces and nephews.

Our family is heartbroken by the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Dorothy M. (Onyika) Starr, 73, of Delmont, formerly of East McKeesport, died Friday June 26, 2020. She was born March 27, 1947 in Clairton, a daughter of the late Julius and Helen M. (Dora) Onyika and was also preceded in death by her brother Dennis Onyika.

She was a former member of First United Methodist Church, East McKeesport, a former Girl Scout Leader and a former union steward while she worked for Lerner’s.

She is survived by her daughters Kristin Starr (Scott Lynch) of Jeannette and Jennifer Starr (Kevin Randall) of North Versailles; her former spouse Allan (Mona) Starr; and a grandson George Allan Randall. She will be missed for her quirky sense of humor and style. She had a heart of gold and a smile that could warm and welcome anybody.

She worked as a secretary for Crum and Forster Insurance in Pittsburgh for many years before retiring. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers John and Regis Fierst; and sisters Dorothy Purcell and Ann Redman. She is survived by her niece Nora Lukac of East McKeesport; great niece Sharon Coutaway of East McKeesport; great-great niece Kara (Justin) Goodfellow and their children Alexandra and Justin.

Edward A. Semenko, 83, of Greensburg, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2020. He was born June 10, 1937 in McKeesport, the son of the late Frank E. and Bertha (Skiba) Semenko. He was an Army veteran that had served six years, and was retired from Westinghouse Electric Corporation, East Pittsburgh.

Throughout his life Edward enjoyed waterskiing, fishing, hunting, camping, and boating with his family and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Carol Bury.

Edward is survived by his wife Cheryl (Helderlein) Semenko; his children Michele (Joe) Avolio of Ligonier, Thelma (Walter) Ponitz of Hermine, Dawn Semenko of Florida, and Carla (Rob) Payer of Greensburg; grandchildren Ashley, Scott, Katie, Christopher, Hannah, and Danielle; sister Patricia Laney of DE; and nieces and nephews.

After an extremely courageous battle with cancer, Domenico “Mico” Lagana, age 73 of North Versailles, passed away Monday, June 8, 2020 peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 28, 1947 in Reggio Calabria, Italy, a son of the late Francesco Lagana and Maria Polimeni.

He worked as a Concrete Foreman for over 25 years for Golden Triangle Construction Company before retiring. He loved golf, fishing, gardening and spending time at the family cabin at Whipkey Dam.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Domenica “Mimma” Lagana; children Maria (Fiance' Darrell Franks) Lagana of North Versailles, Frank (Jessica) Lagana of Greenfield and Dominic (Jamie) Lagana of East Mont; grandchildren Anthony (fiancé Emily), Alexis, Santino (fiancé Cameron) Dominic III (Mia), Francesco, Jimmy, Rocco, Bruno and Domenica; great grandson Domenico; 3 brother and 3 sisters living in Italy; and many nieces and nephews.

Wendell H. Campbell, 91, of North Huntingdon, died Friday May 29, 2020. He was born February 24, 1929 in Filbert, a son of the late Clyde M. and Mabel Luellen (Miller) Campbell.

Wendell was a graduate of Redstone High School, served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, and retired as a maintenance supervisor for Bell Atlantic after over 37 years’ service. He was a member First United Methodist Church, Irwin where he sang in the chancel choir and was a member of the Methodist Men and the Happy Methodists. He was also a member of Shidle Lodge 601, F. & A. M., Irwin, and a longtime member of the Men’s Prayer Fellowship and the Bell Telephone Pioneers. He also tuned pianos for many years.

LaVerne Marie Milner, 98, of Richmond, VA, formerly of Irwin, peacefully transitioned to Heaven on Tuesday, May 5, 2020. She was born January 12, 1922 to Arthur and Bessie McWilliams of Turtle Creek.

After completing high school in Wilmerding, LaVerne was employed as a secretary by Westinghouse Air Brake in their general office. Later in life, she volunteered at Greensburg Hospital, taking newborn baby pictures and was then employed as a salesclerk in the gift shop.

LaVerne was a loving mother and wonderful caregiver to family, friends, and neighbors. She greatly valued family time whether it was welcoming them to her home in Irwin, taking yearly beach trips to the Outer Banks, or celebrating special events such as birthdays and weddings. LaVerne was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Irwin and was guided by her faith to care for others.

Nancy A. Krupa, age 77, of Monroeville; formerly of East McKeesport and Corry, PA passed away on May 2, 2020 after a nine-year battle of mental and physical decline due to Alzheimer’s disease. Born March 28, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Walter & Gladys Krupa. Nancy and her husband, Eugene “Red” Haynes owned and worked at their company, Kory Builders, as general contractors for 27 years. Initially, Nancy physically worked alongside her husband on the jobs; but as the company grew, she worked in the office managing the company’s operations and overseeing the jobs. During that time, Nancy was an active member of the East Allegheny Business Association and also on the board. Nancy was a strong, independent woman who enjoyed working in the man’s world of construction. Nancy and Red also enjoyed traveling across the country on their motorcycles and were married for 33 years until Red’s death in 2006.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Irwin, a member of United Methodist Women, and a longtime volunteer at the Norwin Public Library.

R. Shirley (Cortese) Masi, age 85, of North Versailles, PA, went to be with her Lord and Savior after a short battle with cancer. She died at home, surrounded by loving family on Wednesday, April 15, 2020. Born and raised in Braddock, she married the late Thomas Masi. They raised their family in North Versailles, where she was an active member of the community for nearly six decades.

She was a devoted member of St. Robert Bellarmine Church (now Mary, Mother of God Parish) in East McKeesport for 59 years; she was a lunch lady volunteer at her children’s grade school; she was an enthusiastic volunteer to get meals to her food-insecure neighbors through both Meals on Wheels and most recently Ma’s Pantry; she joined and was affiliated with several groups, including Christian Mothers, the Wilmerding YMCA, Suddenly Single, and the East Allegheny chapter of AARP. Her many communities made for many long and cherished friendships.

E. Ralph Rosensteel, Jr., age 94 of North Versailles, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2020. He was born July 6, 1925 in Braddock, the son of the late Elmer and Helen Rosensteel. He was a long-time member of the All Souls Episcopal Church in North Versailles and was a past member of the VFW in East McKeesport. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II and became a mechanist at the Edgar Thomson Works before going to work for more than 30 years in engineering for Westinghouse in East Pittsburgh before retiring.
