Leo Thomas Haggerty, 92, of Christy Park, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2025. He was born August 30, 1932 in Greenfield and was the son of the late Patrick and Pauline (Deberson) Haggerty. Leo retired from the Operating Engineers and was a US Army Veteran. He is survived by his wife of  53 years, Rosalee (Tobacco) Haggerty, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Joan Gallagher, Lois Russo and Irene Magnus. She enjoyed building puzzles, bingo, and going to lunch with friends. Born January 27, 1943, she was a daughter of the late John F. and Twila (Hicks) Trumpe and wife of the late Charles E. Thayer Sr. She is survived by daughter, Diana Lynn “Tuna” (Jeffrey) Westlund of Elizabeth Twp.; son, Charles E. Thayer Jr. of Forward Twp.; granddaughter, Savannah (Tanner Cupari) Beegle of Dormont; grandsons, Shaun and Michael Westlund, both of Elizabeth Twp.; niece and caregiver, Kimberly Thayer of Forward Twp.; sisters-in-law, Georgeanne Trumpe and Kathy Trumpe; also, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sons, David L. and Lewis E. Thayer; sister, June Sevcik; and brothers, John R. Trumpe and Charles Trumpe. Dennis Robert Petrulak, age 72 of Irwin, passed away unexpectedly on March 2, 2025 at his home.  Dennis was a graduate of Norwin High School in the Class of 1970.  He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt, and he also enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas and Atlantic City casinos.  He was the owner of Den-Care Landscaping for many years.  Denny was a member of St. Edward and most recently Immaculate Conception Parish.  Dennis was born on March 11, 1952, a son of the late Ernest E and Josephine Petrulak.  He is survived by his loving wife, Carol, sons Bryan, Kevin (Maria), Nathan, and Justin (Jess), his dearly loved grandchildren, Broadea, Grace, Camille, Zachary, Emily, Myla, and Owen, brothers Ernest T. and David Petrulak, and sisters Karen Bales and Diane Edwards.  Friends will be received at the James W. Maryann Elizabeth (Volarich) Wargo

Maryann Elizabeth (Volarich) Wargo, age 88, of McKeesport, passed away at home on Friday, February 28, 2025. Born December 7, 1936, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Anna Volarich. A graduate of McKeesport High School, Maryann worked in her home and also held several retail and office positions, most recently as administrative assistant at St. Martin de Porres cemeteries. Lovingly known as “Mimi” to her family, she was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish and of the former Sacred Heart Church and enjoyed singing as a member of the choir. A proud Croatian and member of CFU Lodge #3 (where she celebrated 50+ years of membership), she took great pride in celebrating and sharing her Croatian heritage and could often be found at one of the many Croatian picnics held in the region. In her spare time, she was a musical person, enjoying polka and Tamburitza music, and was proud to be featured as a vocalist with the Mikey Dee Band, Jack Taddy and the Taddy Bears, and Larry Placek and the Tunemasters for numerous polka masses across the Pittsburgh diocese. A diehard fan of football, she loved her Pittsburgh Steelers and could be heard cheering them on each and every game day. Mimi was known for her wonderful cooking and baking and never missed an opportunity to invite friends, both new and old, to join her at the family table. Maryann lived for a sunny day and never missed a chance to bask in the sun on her porch with a cool beverage and a good book.

In addition to her parents and brother John Volarich, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Robert J. Wargo, Sr., who passed away April 29, 2023. Maryann is survived by her children Robert J. Wargo (Ann Marie) of Pasadena, MD; her daughter Carol Reilly of McKeesport; her grandchildren Matthew Bartko, Lynette Reilly (Brock Nagle), and Michael Reilly (Samantha Cassol); her former son-in-law Gene Reilly; her former daughter-in-law Gail Tegler (Paul); her sister-in-law Norma Jean Dunlay; her brother-in-law Charles “Willie” Wargo; three additional grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and also many nieces, nephews, and friends. She will also be missed by her beloved dog Annie (Lil Pup), her grand-dogs Mazie, Leo, Metro, and Gandalf, and grand-cat Binx.

Paul Dale Knieriem, 81, of North Huntingdon, PA, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025. Known to most as Dale, he was born on February 16, 1944, the beloved son of the late Paul and Mildred Knieriem. In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Knieriem. He is survived by his loving companion, Charlene Moore; his two children, Wendy (William) Waugh of North Huntingdon and Paul (Meghan) Knieriem of Huntington, NY; his six grandchildren, Nicholas, Danielle, Jonathan, Zachary, Paul, and Patrick; and his great-grandchild, Slone. Dale graduated from McKeesport High School in 1962 and embarked on a fulfilling career at Westinghouse (East Pittsburgh and Cheswick), Elliott Company, and DBT America. After retiring, he enjoyed time with family and friends at Deep Creek Lake in Maryland. Everyone who knew Dale knew his passion for building and fixing anything in his garage or driveway. He was an active member of both Norwin Christian Church of North Huntingdon and Crossroads Church in Oakland, MD, and was a former member of Christ United Methodist Church in North Huntingdon. Dale was also a dedicated 60-year member of the Duquesne-McKeesport Masonic Lodge.  Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, and a funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Dale.

Frances was an esteemed Democratic Committee Woman, using her voice and abilities to tirelessly serve her neighbors and advocate for causes she believed in. Her commitment to her community extended to her involvement with the American Legion Auxiliary Post 701 in White Oak, where she fostered camaraderie among veterans and their families. A charter member of the Volunteer White Oak Rescue Squad, she made an indelible impact as an EMT, always ready to lend a helping hand in times of need.

Michael A. Salvi, age 85, of McKeesport, died February 26, 2025, at UPMC Magee Hospital. Born October 12, 1939, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Michael A. and Mary (Verno) Salvi and the husband of Kathryn L. (Rittner) Salvi, for over 46 years.
Mike was a retired Dental Technician and after he worked for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, where he helped folks with special needs. Mike attended St. Eugene Church of Liberty Borough, Saints Joachim & Anne Parish. He was also a member of MYARC of McKeesport. Mike enjoyed Pittsburgh sports especially, the Steelers and Penguins. He had a passion for food, loved cooking and trying new restaurants. Mike was a great singer, enjoyed winter weather, and would always be there to lend a hand to anyone in need.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Robert G. Moffat at his home in Boston, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 7, 1934 to the late Gladys Matthews Tanzos and Howard L. Moffat. Robert proudly served 40 years at Bell Telephone Company and was a member of the Pioneers Organization of Bell Telephone. He was a member of the Crow’s Nest Social Club and a frequent patron of White Oak American Legion, especially on karaoke night. Throughout his life he was a member of both Mary Mother of God Catholic Church and Buena Vista Presbyterian Church. Robert was known as “The Captain” and “SpongeBob” due to his entertaining personality and perfect singing voice. Sadly, the microphone is silent. The Captain has sung his final song. Robert left an invisible mark on the hearts of everyone he touched. His door was always open, welcoming all with open arms. He was a shining example of joy, love and laughter, illuminating every gathering with his presence. A kind and gentle soul, he embodied the true meaning of family love. May his spirit soar with the angels, basking in the eternal peace and love of The Lord. His legacy will live on through our cherished memories of him.

Joanne L. Schleifer, age 72, of Braddock, PA, peacefully entered into the presence of her Creator and Savior, on Thursday, February 27, 2025. She was born on January 4, 1953, to her beloved parents, the late Theodore J. “Ted” Schleifer Jr. and Evelyn Florence (McClelland) Schleifer.

Joanne was always proud to boast about her Irish heritage while also being proud of her country and those who gave their life for our freedom. Her life was marked by service to her church, love and devotion to her family, and a commitment to excellence in all endeavors.

Joanne is the sister of William B. (Jean Ann) Schleifer of Duquesne and the late Theodore Joseph Schleifer III; aunt of Elizabeth “Liz” (Andy) Veyliotti of Portland, OR, Jenny Lynn Schleifer of Duquesne, Kristen (Nathan) Matusiak of North East, PA and William Brian “Bill” (Amy) Schleifer of North Huntingdon; great aunt of Addison Matusiak, Autumn Schleifer and Savannah Schleifer; godmother of many including Joanne (Hoffman) Stinson, Jenna (Evans) Magee, Mark Tongel, Blair Marie Montone and niece, Kristen.

Arthur J. Gobbie, Sr., age 91 of Jefferson Hills, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and wonderful caregivers on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.  Born September 2, 1933 in Clairton, he was a son of the late Richard and Antoinette (Benedetto) Gobbie.  A member of Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish and US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict.  Arthur graduated from Clairton High School in 1951 and was a bricklayer and stonemason with the Bricklayers Local #9.  He was also a member of the Sons of Columbus Santa Maria Council #4 and the American Legion Post #712.  

Devoted husband of 64 years to his wife Loretta (Frascarelli) Gobbie.  Loving father to his children Arthur J. (Lynne) Gobbie, Jr. of Bethel Park, Michael (Christine) Gobbie of Glassport, Carla (Joseph) Tranchini of Jefferson Hills, Paul (Lisa) Gobbie of Bethel Park.  Loving and proud Pap to ten grandchildren Nicholas (Ashley) Gobbie, Matthew Gobbie, Michael Gobbie, Mark Gobbie, Carly Gobbie, Alexandra (Matthew) Fickley, Laura Tranchini, 1st. Lt. Samuel Gobbie, Katelyn Gobbie, and Julia Gobbie.  Adoring great-pap to great-grandson Casey Fickley.  Uncle to many nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by his siblings Dr. Richard L. Gobbie and Gloria DeCarlo.  

Art was known for his love of God and family.  He was an avid Steelers fan and held season tickets for decades and he also enjoyed golfing with family and friends as well playing Bocce at IAC. Art was passionate about gardening and enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his favorite past-time was to have large family gatherings around the dinner table with an abundance of food and wine.  He was adamant about keeping family traditions alive and passed through his future generations.  Art had a warm-kind heart and a great sense of humor, welcoming anyone into his home as family.

Joseph G. Scapellato, 86, of Liberty Boro, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025.  He was born February 22, 1939 in Clairton and was the son of the late Joseph and Anita (Bonafortuna) Scapellato.  He was the husband of 54 years to the late Geraldine (Gniazdowski) Scapellato, who passed away October 3, 2018. Joseph was a US Army Veteran and a member of Sts. Joachim and Anne- St. Eugene Worship site. Joseph was a man of great faith and was a member of St. Eugene Church for almost 60 years.  He worked for the former Isaly's stores for 40 years, starting in Clairton and finishing in White Oak, where he had many job titles through the years, including store manager. Joseph would also work for the former Payday's in Elizabeth and also the former Food Land in Pleasant Hills.  He was a sweet and gentle soul who loved his family.  He enjoyed beach trips to Atlantic City, New Jersey and loved his sweets. His favorites were chocolate, danishes and donuts to name a few.  Joseph also enjoyed helping his wife babysit many children throughout the years and loved children.  He will be greatly missed.

Joseph Cabray, age 89, of West Mifflin, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025, in Jefferson Hospital. Born in Duquesne on February 3, 1936, he was the son of the late George and Margaret (Yellich) Cabray. He is retired from U.S. Steel Duquesne Works where he worked in the B.O.P. Accounting Department. He was a retired school bus driver with 25 years of service. He was a member of the Praise Assembly Church in North Versailles where he served as a Deacon and was on the Board of Directors. He coached little league and eventually became a manager, winning 2 world series. He had a real estate license, worked at the P.A.A., loved dancing, was his mother’s caregiver when she was in poor health and had the opportunity to meet and shake Bill Mazeroski’s hand one hour after he hit his famous home run. He was a huge Pittsburgh sports fan.

Joseph is the beloved husband of Angeline “Angie” T. (Kypros) Cabray for 67 years; father of Joseph George Cabray of West Mifflin and the late Theodore “Teddy” Cabray; grandfather of Kristin (Jason) Schmidt of Windsor, Colorado; great grandfather of Olivia Schmidt, Judah Schmidt, Samira Schmidt, Keilana Schmidt, and Zekiah Schmidt; brother of the late Helen Sotak, late Anna (late Steve) Vasko, twin brother, late Johnny Cabray, and late Robert (late Marjorie) Cabray. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., at the Praise Assembly Church of God, 245 Foster Rd., North Versailles, PA 15137
