Norma C. (Wolfe) Werner, age 92, of Elizabeth Twp., passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2022 at home. She was a member of Round Hill Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth Twp., the Daughters of the American Revolution, a charter member of Elizabeth Twp. Historical Society and Central Food Bank, a volunteer with Elizabeth Twp. Meals on Wheels, Blaine Hill VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and a former member of the Central Civic Association which became Central Volunteer Fire Department. She helped organize the bicentennial commemoration in McKeesport of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. She enjoyed craft shows and genealogy. Born September 1, 1929 in Elizabeth Twp., she was a daughter of the late Fredrick Anthony and Corrine F. (Howell) Wolfe and wife of the late Alfred Fredrick Werner Jr. She is survived by her sons, David (Pamela) Werner of Rostraver and Brian (Amy) Werner of Carrollton, OH; grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Julia and Michael; great-grandchildren, Ava, Alexandrea, Daxton and Terren; also, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, 221 North Second Avenue, Elizabeth on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 10 AM in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Aleda Arnold Menchyk officiating. Ronald Russell Pope, 83, of Liberty Borough, passed away Monday, May 2, 2022. He was born March 7, 1939 in Port Vue and was the son of the late Joseph Benjamin and Stella Margaret (Gavron) Pope. Ronald was a member of Sts. Joachim and Anne Parish, St. Eugene Worship Site in Liberty and was retired from WABTECH which was formerly WABCO. He is survived by wife, Mary Ann (Benish) Pope, daughters, Cheri (Stephen) Tedrick and Debra (James) Stripsky of Christy Park, sister, Carol (John) Rock of Michigan, sister-in-law, Jean Pope of Christy Park, grandchildren, Brenda (Matthew) Salcedo, Joyce (Christian) Crabtree, Lauren Tedrick, and Alex and Erik Stripsky, great-grandchildren, Michaela and Charlotte Salcedo and Celine Crabtree, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Stephen Pope who passed away February 28, 2017 and his brother, Harold Pope. Phyllis J. Brown

Phyllis Brown went home to be with her God and Saviour on Saturday, May 7, 2022.  Phyllis was loved by all who knew her.  She was the beloved wife to her husband, Jim, and mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to a family who adored her.  She was a former member of Miller United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and vacation bible school, and was active in the ladies craft group and fundraising dinners.  She most recently was a member of Calvary Chapel in Greensburg and enjoyed the women's bible study group and preparing morning coffee with her sisters in Christ.  Phyllis battled with dementia and was lovingly cared for during her last months by the wonderful staff at Redstone Highlands, North Huntingdon.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Phyllis (Ray) Peck; sister, Carol (Peck) Williams, husband, James Brown; and granddaughter, Amanda Brown.  She is survived by her children, Deborah Connelly, Richard Brown, and Aaron (Tamarah) Brown; sister, Barbara Rokasky; grandchildren, Jamie Fitzgerald, Jarrett Brown and Hannah Brown; and great-grandchildren, Jesse, Jordan, Kai-Wen and Violet.    Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the James W. Rita (Bowers) Lewis, age 88, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022. Rita was a stay-at-home, loving mother who encouraged her children to be strong and independent. She endured a very harsh life growing up, including having polio. Despite all her hardships during her lifetime, she was still able to make her home a loving one. Rita was a past member of First Presbyterian Church in Clairton and was also a member and deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Elizabeth. Rita loved being involved in her church, as a cook for many years as well as a volunteer to decorate or collect for church functions and/or for charities. Born May 15, 1933 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late Martin Elroy Bowers Sr. and the late Sarah Agnes (O’Leary) Bowers Lewis, and wife of 65 years to the late James R. Lewis. She is survived by her children, Aritha M. (Bryce) Lewis of Lafayette, LA, and Terry Edward (Annette) Lewis of Duncansville; daughter-in-law, Susie Lewis of California; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was proceeded in death by her son, James Richard Lewis; grandson, Bryce James Lewis; sister, Sarah Rose Kertis; and brothers, Martin Bowers Jr. and Sam Bowers. Funeral service will be Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 1:30 PM at Round Hill Cemetery Chapel, Elizabeth Twp., with Pastor Benjamin Schneider officiating. Interment will follow the service. Fern Martinelli, 91, of McKeesport passed away Saturday, May 7, 2022. She was born October 27, 1930 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late Raymond and Clara (Walters) Markham. She was the wife to the late Russell R. Martinelli, who passed away July 13, 1965. Fern worked many years for Continental Can in the cafeteria and eventually into the factory. She then worked for McKeesport Hospital as a Hospital Escort from 1976-1992. She loved taking trips to the casino with her sister and she was an extremely involved and loving mother.

James “Jim” Ward

James “Jim” Ward, of White Oak, died peacefully at home on May 5, 2022, shortly after celebrating his 65th birthday with his family. Loving husband to Sharon (née Kundman) of McKeesport, they were happily married for 43 years.
Jim worked for over 24 years as a housekeeping supervisor at Kane Hospital in Glen Hazel and later Mercy Behavioral Health. An avid outdoorsman, Jim enjoyed fishing and hunting until suffering a major stroke in 2010 that left him partially paralyzed. He also enjoyed annual family vacations to the beach. Jim will always be remembered as a hard-working, upbeat, fighter.

She was a 1973 graduate of Elizabeth Forward. Nira was a lifelong member of the Girl Scouts USA, Boy Scouts and also a member of the Boston Fire Company Lady's Auxiliary. She retired from the Elizabeth Forward School District as a Custodial Supervisor after working there for many years.

Edward Fencik

On Wednesday, April 27, 2022, Edward Fencik, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at the age of 96.

Edward was born on July 5, 1925 in Port Vue, PA to George and Mary (Gavula) Fencik, Slovak immigrants from Austria-Hungary.  He had four brothers and two sisters.  They were a hard-working family.  Upon graduation from high school he enlisted in the US Navy, joining three of his brothers for service in WWII.  He was deployed to Naval Station Great Lakes in Illinois, where he requested to go seaborne and was assigned as a pharmacist’s mate to the USS Texas battleship, participating in the invasions at Normandy, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa.

After returning from war Edward married on July 11, 1947 his high school sweetheart, Garnett Miller.  Together they happily raised a daughter Cathy, and a son Don.  He became a design draftsman in the engineering department at the U.S. Steel Irvin Works Plant, where he worked until retirement.  His drafting skills, lettering, and penmanship were superb.
