By Bekavac Funeral Home and Crematory | Posted in: Bekavac Funeral Home and Crematory

It is with great sadness that the family of George L Poljak, Port Vue, announces his passing on December 14, 2021 at the age of 92 after declining health.  He was born April 23, 1929 in McKeesport, the son of Ivan and Antonia Poljak. He graduated from McKeesport Area High School and Penn Technical School. He then served in the Army during the Korean War. He retired from US Steel National Tube where he was an instrument repairman. These skills also allowed him to work for himself repairing televisions back when televisions had tubes.  George was very proud of his Croatian heritage and you would often see him at various Croatian picnics, International Village and Kennywood chopping lamb or singing with the Penn Sembles Choral group. He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church, The American Legion, volunteered with Port Vue Firemen, CFU, Young Men’s Social Club in Versailles Lodge 3 and Archer Hill Duckpin Bowling League. In addition, he was a member of Club Dobrator where he was the financial secretary and sometimes stood in for Santa at the children’s Christmas parties.  George was known for his homemade smoked kolbassi and sauerkraut. The best around! He was a Jack of all trades. But his main hobby was woodworking where family and friends were all recipients of his art. George was a firm believer that you didn’t throw anything away before you tried to fix it! He knew a little bit of something about everything and used it to success while watching Jeopardy!
