Ruth M. “G.G” Hodge Smitley, 98 of Finleyville, formerly of Clairton, passed away on Tuesday March 17, 2020 at her home. She was born on May 18, 1921 to the late David Hodge and Anna Kennedy Hodge. Ruth was the loving wife and best friend to the late George L. Smitley for 51 years before his death at the age of 72. Ruth enjoyed her role as a domestic engineer where she could care for her family and give them the best life possible. She is survived by her daughter Ruthann (George) Adams of Finleyville, her daughter Mary Lincoln of Point Marion, her daughter Priscilla Martin of McKeesport, and her son George (Judy) Smitley of Jefferson Hills. Ruth is also survived by her sisters MaryJane McCorkle of Elizabeth and Alice Bucy of Indiana. Ruth was preceded in death by her two daughters Ethel Porter and Alice Lewis as well as her brothers Clyde, David, Robert, and John Hodge. She was also preceded by her sisters Margaret Swarz, Annamae Core, and Gwendolyn Hodge.

“Betty” Elizabeth Erwin Langan of McKeesport, 90, died on March 16, 2020.  The daughter of Shelby Erwin and Beatrice Cohoon Erwin.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James “Jim” Langan, brother Frank Erwin and sister in-law Margret Erwin of  Dallas, TX, brother and sister in law Thomas Langan and Lois Langan of McKeesport, brother and sister in law Bob and Mary Berquist of Detroit MI. 

She is survived by sons, Jim (Mikel Lynn) of Johnstown  and Patrick Langan of McKeesport, nephews Dave Erwin and Mark Erwin of Austin TX, Jeff  (Terry) Erwin of Fort Worth Texas and their children, Erin Erwin of Chicago, Curtis Erwin of Denver Colorado, Thomas (Stephanie) Erwin of Dallas and their children Gabriel and Samantha, Cindy (Ian) Larsen of Dallas, Texas, Bob (Maureen) Berquist of Mulberry, Florida, Carl (Bobbie) Berquist of Vienna, VA, Nora (Matty) Moroun of Gross Point Shores,  Donald (Kathy) Berquist of Troy, Michigan, Jimmy (Cathy) Berquist of Gross Pointe Farms, Michigan and many nieces and nephews. 

She graduated 4th in her class of 735 people from McKeesport High School and received her teaching degree from Indiana State Teachers college (now IUP) going on to receive a master’s degree in education from Penn State.  She taught first, second, and fourth grade at Mifflin School in Pittsburgh for 13 years then retired to raise two children.  She worked as a lifeguard at the McKeesport YMCA where she rescued a man by using CPR and received a Christmas card from him for the rest of his life. 

Never one to stay still she took a course in computers when PCs first became popular and turned it into a second career.  

She taught for 15 years at CCAC South Campus, working in the computer lab and educating students in Intro to Computers.  She further developed a Page Maker course writing the curriculum and a book for the course.  She enjoyed teaching, flea markets, estate sales, collecting Depression glass and Ethan Allen Furniture, mystery books, and Downton Abbey.

Barbara Lujetic, age 81 of Liberty Borough, passed away at home on Sunday, March 15, 2020.  Born June 7, 1938 in Spartanburg, SC, she was a daughter of the late Cecil and Mary (Cline) Vaughn.  Barbara retired after 19 years as secretary to the superintendent of South Allegheny School District, and prior to that, worked in the same capacity at Bettis Atomic Labs.  She is survived by her husband Daniel E. Lujetic; sons Dr. Daniel C. (Deborah) Lujetic of Elizabeth Borough and Timothy (Sarah) Lujetic of Liberty Borough; granddaughters Victoria (William) Bauer and Lisa and Olivia Lujetic; great-grandsons Jace and Silas; great-granddaughter Helena; and her brother Thomas Vaughn of Glassport.

She was a homemaker and former employee of Bettis Atomic Plant.  She was the wife of the late George B. She was a former employee of the Clairton Public Library and loved reading, the flower shows at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, and spending time with her husband and talking with her brothers and sisters. Born May 2, 1940 in Clairton, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Connell) Livingston. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, James E. Pietraszewski; daughters, Marie T. Pietraszewski of Ross Twp. and Nancy B. (David) Kurutz of Dawson; grandson, William James (Marissa Harris) Kurutz of Bullskin Twp.; sisters, Anne (Orrin) Butterfield of Minnesota and Clare (Frank) Pokorney of the state of Indiana; brothers, Clifford Livingston of Ohio, Jack (Roseann) Livingston of Florida and Richard (Patti) Livingston of Clairton; also, nieces and nephews. Gladys Marie George Keith was born September 27, 1923, in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Albert Benjamin and Anna Louise George. Gladys moved to Clairton, Pennsylvania as a young girl. She graduated from high school in Large, Pennsylvania, currently known as Jefferson Hills. Gladys met and was married to Deacon Robert Henry Keith Sr. in 1940. This union produced three children Anna Louise, Robert Henry Jr., and Sandra Marie. Deacon and Deaconess Keith were married for over 47 years until his death in 1988.

Gladys loved people and her life was full of friends and family. Gladys was a remarkably sweet and caring person who gave of herself and her possessions freely, generously, selflessly and without any expectation of return. She was employed by the Jefferson Hills Police Department where she retired as a crossing guard for West Jefferson Hills School District. Before his death, Deacon and Deaconess Keith enjoyed traveling domestically and internationally to visit relatives in places such as the Virgin Islands, California, Texas and Hawaii.

Maraffi, age 75 of Elizabeth Twp., passed away at home on Friday, March 13, 2020.  Born September 10, 1944 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late George Matola and Nada "Nancy" (Byich) (the late Cyril) Vrabel.  A former manager at Frank's Auto Supermarket in Versailles, Georgienne was active in her sons' youth athletics and was one of the founders and first officers of the Elizabeth Forward Athletic Association.  More importantly, she will be remembered as an amazing and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Richard L. Maraffi, Jr., who passed away January 12, 2014.  Georgienne is survived by her husband Richard L. Maraffi, Sr.; her sons Ramon Maraffi of Elizabeth Twp. and Ronald (Wendy) Maraffi of Slippery Rock; her grandsons Ryan (fiancee' Allie Peterson) and Kyle (fiancee' Carlee Graham) Maraffi; her brother Jeff (Sherry) Matola of Powell, OH; her nephew Jordan (Liz) Matola; and her great-nieces Brianna and Ellie.
