Melva "Cookie" Tranchini, age 83 of Jefferson Hills, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2019 in Jefferson Hospital.  Born August 10, 1936 in New York, NY, she was a daughter of the late Theodore Mirkovich and Zorka (Terzich) Mirkovich Check.  A member of Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church, its Kola Sisters, and the SNF, Cookie worked as a secretary at both Fisher Scientific and the City of Clairton.  She loved her Serbian culture, and loved to bake, cook, and parasail.  Cookie is survived by her husband of 59 1/2 years Joseph Tranchini; her children Leslie (Johnathan) Thomas of Arlington, VA and Joseph (Carla) Tranchini of Jefferson Hills; her grandchildren Nicole (Daniel) Muhr, Bryan Wish, and Alexandra and Laura Tranchini; and also nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Cookie was preceded in death by her sister Nedra Drobac.

Mary Ann Rakochy, age 86 of Clairton, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2019 in Overlook Green Senior Living in Whitehall.  Born July 22, 1933 in Clairton, she was a daughter of the late Mitro and Mary J. (Makuh) Rakochy and last surviving sibling of the late Mike Wagel, Margaret McGuiness, Ann Bernhard, John Rakochy, and Helen Glegyak.  Mary Ann was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish in Clairton and retired after 53 years as an office clerk for the City of Clairton.  She is survived by nieces and nephews.  Friends will be received in the A.J. Bekavac Funeral Home, 555 5th. Paul L. Gala, 55, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2019. He was in the presence of his loving family. Paul was diagnosed with gastric cancer in May of 2018. Facing his foe with unwavering courage and dignity, Paul spent the last 19 months making indelible memories with his beloved wife and children. Paul was born on March 16, 1964 in Elizabeth Township, PA to the late Charles and Margaret Gala. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1986 and the following year, his MBA from the Katz Graduate School of Business. Paul dedicated 30 years to IBM as a business executive and market leader and most recently, 2 years as the Senior Director of Sales Operations at Blackboard.

Frank Vlasic, age 88 of Elizabeth Twp., passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at Mt. Vernon of Elizabeth Assisted Living.   Born May 27, 1931 in Yugoslavia, he was the son of the late John and Ana (Bogovic) Vlasic.  A retired steelworker for US Steel - National Tube Works in McKeesport, he joins his wife, the late Dorothy Jane (Vugrincic) Vlasic, who passed away September 3, 2018.  Frank lived in White Oak for almost 50 years before having to give up his beloved home and yard where he loved to spend his days outside cutting grass, planting flowers or working on cars. Frank was an active member of CFU Lodge 146 in Versailles for more than 60 years. Frank will always be remembered for his strong work ethic, his outgoing personality, willingness to always lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it and of being a proud Croatian!  His heritage meant everything to him and he never hesitated to tell anyone who would listen how he was Croatian and then would try to teach them his native language.

Paul Kensky, age 93 of Clairton, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2019 in Jefferson Hospital.  He was a conductor for Union Railroad in McKeesport; member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish in Clairton; a Navy Veteran serving during World War II; a member of the American Legion Post # 75 Daniel Keffer, Sons of Columbus Santa Maria Council #4, Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge #248; and was an avid hunter who loved the outdoors and picking wild mushrooms.  Born December 16, 1925 in Clairton, Paul was a son of the late Andrew and Elizabeth (Dora) Kensky. He is preceded in death by his wife Olga (Perich) Kensky.  He is survived by daughter Paula (Paul D.) Kensky Lee of Clairton, brother, Stephen Kensky of Butler, sister-in-law Virginia Pekala of Clairton, and also nieces & nephews,. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Mary Pfiefer, Betty Mauser, Ann Dorcon, and Joseph, John, Michael, Andrew and George Kensky.

Evans, age 68 of North Huntingdon and formerly of Elizabeth Twp., passed away at home surrounded by her family on Friday, November 15, 2019.  Born March 3, 1951 in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late Andrew John and Helen (Reed) Kish.  A graduate of Elizabeth Forward HS and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Barbara worked as a teacher for the McKeesport School District and was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in North Huntingdon.  In her spare time, she loved to cross-stitch and crochet, garden, dance, and was an active participant with the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.  Most of all though, Barbara was committed to her family and loved to spend time with her children and be "Meme" to her adoring grandchildren.  She is survived by her husband of 46 years Pat Evans; her children Laura (Kevin) Ward of Gibsonia, Brian (Theresa) Evans of North Huntingdon, Maggie (Brian) Carlton of North Huntingdon, and Elizabeth (Adam) Holy of Valencia; her grandchildren Benjamin and Zachary Ward, Katelyn and Madelyn Evans, and Miles Carlton; her siblings Ruthan (Paul) Rodibaugh of Elizabeth Twp. and Reed (Colleen) Kish of Columbus, OH; and also many cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Pomycala, age 93 of Pasadena, MD and formerly of North Versailles, passed away at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, MD.  Born August 14, 1926 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late Charles C. and Mary (Busch) Pomycala.  A graduate of McKeesport High School, Stanley worked as a manager for the former A&P Market, a custodian for East Allegheny School District, and with Westinghouse Corp.  He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War, a member of the American Legion Post # 701 of White Oak and the Senior Citizens of North Versailles.  In his spare time, Stanley was an avid softball player, loved playing cards, slot machines, and games on his tablet, and, most of all, adored spending time with his granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
