Sr. Mary Ann Dujanovic, SDR, age 91, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022 in the Divine Redeemer Motherhouse, Elizabeth Twp. Born October 23, 1930 in Barberton, OH, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary (Vislavsky) Dujanovic. Sr. Mary Ann was a professed religious Sister of the Divine Redeemer for 72 years. She earned both her BA and MA in education from Duquesne University worked in education for 68 years as an excellent primary teacher, principal, CCD teacher, and with the homeschooled. She was also a Local Superior, awarded the Golden Apple Award in 1998, had a great devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and was very creative. Although she was "retired," Sr. Mary Ann continued tutoring and helping in the community as a sunshine person, receptionist, and always offered a helpful ear as a good listener and helpful prayer. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers George and Francis Dujanovic and her sisters: Bernadette Hornacek, Marguerite Holben, and Diane Dujanovic. Sr. Mary Ann is survived by her sisters-in-law Barbara and Ann Dujanovic, her brother in law Michael Holben, her nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Theresa Mattis (August, 2022), her husband and parents, her parents-in-law Michael and Anna (Hlad) Mattis, and siblings, Helen Miklos, Elizabeth Miklos, Margaret Miklos, Alexander Miklos, Andrew “Timmy” Miklos, Bernard Miklos, Virginia Miklos, Gertrude Motel, Rosalia Miklos and Philomena Demeter.
A 1957 graduate of Duquesne High School, Valeria worked as a Tele-Typist at Fisher Scientific and later as an Administrative Assistant in the Housing Office at Carnegie Mellon University.
Mother Val was a strong woman with tremendous faith and perseverance. She embraced the challenges and responsibilities of raising her five children herself following the death of her beloved husband Mike, who died suddenly in 1983. She loved her family, her friends, her Catholic religion and playing board games with her family. She enjoyed having fun, laughing and joking around with those she loved. She was highly proficient at Scrabble. She kept up to date on current, worldly events. She also enjoyed playing games of chance on her iPad, and especially “taking rides” to various casinos.
She was a strong woman who never complained and made the best of challenging circumstances throughout her life. Family was an important priority in her life that she taught her children in values and traditions, especially her favorite holiday, Christmas. She enjoyed decorating, baking, cooking and sharing the traditional Christmas Eve Slovak Vilija supper. She reinforced these values by reminding all of us of the importance of always saying the following three words, “I Love You.”
Friends will be received on Monday, October 17, 2022 and Tuesday, October 18, 2022, from 2-8 p.m., at the MALOY-SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 915 KENNEDY AVE., DUQUESNE, PA 15110, 412-466-3300, WILLIAM B. SCHLEIFER, SUPERVISOR, WILLIAM BRIAN SCHLEIFER, FUNERAL DIRECTOR. A blessing service will take place at the Funeral Home at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, in Mary Mother of God Parish at the St. Mary Częstochowa (Corpus Christi) worship site, 2515 Versailles Ave., McKeesport, PA, 15132, with her Godson, Rev. Thomas A. Nasta, as celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, West Mifflin.

She was born in Braddock on October 3, 1938 and is the daughter of the late Frederick and Vera Custer Johannes, and the wife of the late James Danny Dixon. She retired as the manager at the previous Lindsley Personal Care Home in McKeesport.

She was the wife to the late Lawrence George Slack, who passed away June 18, 2006. Jacquelyn was a long time member of Mary, Mother of God Parish - Corpus Christi. She has an energetic personality and for many years volunteered for meals on wheels. She loved gambling, crocheting, and was a roller coaster enthusiast, and she enjoyed her many trips to Ocean City, Maryland with her family.

Florindo “Fred” Mariani, age 89 of North Versailles, passed away peacefully to reunite eternally with his beloved wife of 65 years, Patricia Mariani, daughters Diana and Gina Ann Mariani, and granddaughter, Gina Marie Mariani.
He was born on December 29, 1932 in Sant Angelo del Pesco, Italy, a son of the late Filomena (DiVito) and Ondivio Mariani.
Fred immigrated to the United States in 1953. He built a life filled with cherished family and friends. He ran a masonry business and was highly skilled in his trade. As a father and grandfather, he demonstrated strength, courage and the value of working hard in all that he did. Fred enjoyed regularly visiting his family in Italy, watching football, delicious food, music, and most of all, spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He set a true example of perseverance, integrity, tradition and dedication to family and faith. Fred was the pillar of love and commitment in his family— a love that continues to connect his family on earth and in heaven.

Nita (D'Amico) Cheripka, 75, of Wilmerding died peacefully on October 8, 2022. Nita was the devoted wife of Thomas Cheripka. Loving mother of Monica (Robert) Murphy, Thomas Cheripka Jr., and Brad (Julie) Cheripka; adoring grandmother of Jeremy, John “Jake”, Delaney, Collin, Zachary and Reagan. Nita is also survived by her siblings, Donald D’Amico, Patricia Cheripka and Pamela Matviya, step siblings, Mary Ann Medvis, Rose “Tiny” Monk, James “Bull” Cheripka, Robert “Bucky” Cheripka, Edward Cheripka, Ronald Cheripka, and Mark Cheripka, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, David and Blanche Virginia (Shaffer) D’Amico, step mother, Helen (Cheripka) D’Amico, and her brother, Michael D’Amico.

Anthony M. DiVittorio, 89, of North Versailles Twp. died Wednesday October 5, 2022. Beloved son of the late Anthony and Angela DiVittorio. Loving brother of Marie (Ben) Cifone and the late Sam DiVittorio. Brother-in-law of Maggie DiVittorio. Dear uncle of Renee (Mike) Ansell, Leslie (Rick) Ethridge, Laurie (Barry) Wyckoff, Sam (Kathy) DiVittorio, and the late Mary Jo (the late Blake) Hadley. Anthony was a Professor of Music at Duquesne University for 42 years. For 18 months he was a Cryptologist in the Army stationed in Japan. Anthony traveled to New York City every August and then to Taiwan with a friend who was an opera singer for her upcoming concert series. Also survived by numerous great nieces, nephews and many loved cousins.
Friends were received at James F. Kutch Funeral Home. Interment followed with military honors at All Saints Braddock Catholic Cemetery.

Patrick S. Massung, 86, of White Oak, PA. was born March 17, 1936, in McKeesport, PA. He was the beloved son of the late Lawrence and Sarah (Neel) Massung. Patrick departed this life on October 10, 2022, in White Oak, PA. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ruth (Haberland) Massung and son, Edward Massung.
He was self-employed with his own Construction Company, Four Tire businesses also worked at the Copperweld in Glassport, PA, and had many other working skills. He would be known as a “Jack of all trades.”
He loved gardening, hunting, canning, his lift chair, and reading the bible, the most.
